I understand the intent, however I find the principle behind it inexcusable. It is foolish to publish a document that assumes the existence of documents you intend to publish in the future; precisely because no one is truly in control of their future. Any given publication might be your last, and the publication you think is your last might be the one that saves the company.
If I had been given a choice between Hero System Vehicle and say Fantasy Hero (July 2010) or the Advanced Players Guide II (August 2011), I'd have taken Hero System Vehicle... To be fair though, I don't really use either of the APGs, and I actually prefer my 5th edition copy of Fantasy Hero to the 6th edition version.

Regardless, we got what we got, and I can gripe about it all day long but that won't change it...
If wishes were fishes, I'd cast a net for a PDF edition of Hero System Vehicle, and FHC compatible versions of the Iron Kingdoms* campaign setting sourcebooks and a nice series adventures to do with it.
*The Iron Kingdoms is one of my favorite settings, and the rules for the IK Wargame (and likely the RPG too) have a few noteworthy similarities to Hero.

Right, but it seems as though people are telling Centriped that it's wrong to want the book he wants, when the thread is explicitly about dreaming as big as you like.

So Tasha, you want to actually have a full game built upon the foundation of Hero, sans the part of Hero that is supposedly the big draw to the system? That is both bold and, coincidentally, sort of like the project I am working on. I admit that I never envisioned keeping the Power building rules out completely. I always figured a sort of mini-rules presentation, methods of pre-generating characters with a very D&D-esque Race/Class system (mechanically done for my project), and the support material to tweak interest in the system. After that, I thought about tutorials on how to do it yourself by starting simple and increasing complexity. The idea of expanding that idea to an entire product line and omitting the "here's how YOU do it" aspect did not occur to me. Interesting.

I really need to get some more information of Savage World's Plot Points. What book(s) would be a good place to start looking?

I want Hero to make a fully realized fully built out Fantasy World. Including Spells, Fighting styles, History, Full color maps, Hero System rules. Everything but power building rules. Everything that a GM needs to run games in that fantasy world. It could be a Rulebook and a Gazetteer style book (ie Pathfinder Core and Inner Sea World Guide). I would also like to see the same thing done to Superheroes. the idea would be for the writeup to be minimal nothing extra and to keep things very simple. Self contained would be the watchword. GM's wanting more customization would be pointed at Champions Complete and Fantasy Hero Complete. Writeups of all equipment, spells etc with all of the costs in them would be available using Bits & Mortar service.

Also something that crosses Savage Worlds Plot point campaigns with Paizo's Adventure path. ie Something that has a strong plotline, but also has some side adventures/quests for variety. Because adventures actually drives sales of other books. GM's need adventures and campaigns. Making it easy for the GM to run will generate sales of the books because they will want to run the game.

I would also love to see more Champions Miniatures. Perhaps WizKids can do some HeroClix of the Champions Universe characters.

It's possible to view a transcript taken from the automatically generated captioning that YouTube does.  If you look under the video frame, at the thumbs-up/thumbs-down/share/add-to/three-dots menu, click the three dots, then Open Transcript.  It's for sure not a real transcript; it doesn't track the speaker, and you get occasional homophones that are pretty easy to figure out from context.

I can have a better transcript up sometime this weekend, if someone else doesn't get to it first.

As a child, Mark Tilford always had these little flashes of intuition; his mom always thought it came from his deceased father's side of the family.  His teachers always thought he was a smartass or a cheater; other kids, especially the bullying types, thought he was making fun of them, and he had a knack for finding trouble.  His older sister Alyssa was always pulling him out of scrapes. In middle school he discovered martial arts, and he took to it with a passion. This helped him focus and get healthy, but didn't do anything toward keeping him out of fights.  At age 19, he was expelled from competitive martial arts when, during a match, he accidently broke the legs of three competitors in a row. Leaving the match, he was jumped by a number of other competitors; a secretive organization known as the Shining Fist of Nostradamus chose that exact time to try to recruit him, claiming he had some sort of destiny or something, and it didn't go well; confrontations with the Shining Fist caused him unexplained nausea, dizziness, and headaches.  He managed to escape the ensuing chaos, thanks to his big sister being there for him yet again and showing up in her car at just the right time.  She sat him down and gave him a good stern talking to about what he can do, what he did in the big fight, and what he should do.  He agreed, and does what he always enjoyed and was good at: finding the bad guys, mixing it up with them, and breaking their legs.

The first wave of role-playing design was its own Renaissance, marked by greatness of all kinds. If you were playing then, you'll remember. And if you weren't, you'd be amazed at what that wave held. One of them was Champions, the Super Role-Playing Game.

Hero Games is proud to present Champions Now, to be created by pioneering game designer Ron Edwards, author of Sorcerer and co-founder of The Forge. Ron will revisit the original three editions of first-generation Champions (1981 to 1988), recovering the power of this foundational era of superhero roleplaying.

To learn more, including reading a playtest document and watching videos, head over to Kickstarter. If you like what you see, please back our ambitious, fan-inclusive project.

With this announced, I thought it might be prudent to explain what Champions Now will – and won’t – be.

Is This The Hero System 7th Edition? No. This is exactly what it says it is: a version of Champions inspired by its earliest roots in 80’s gaming, yet updated for the 21st Century. Technically speaking, it’s not even a “Hero System” product, because Champions predates the Hero System as an independent game engine, which was born out of it.

Does It Replace The Hero System 6th Edition? No. Nor the fifth or fourth editions, either. Each of these versions of the Hero System has its own feel, style of play, storied history, and large number of support products. We still sell them, support them, and will continue to do so. (I’m personally still publishing Hero System 6E material.) If you like them, please continue to play them. We wouldn't ask you to do otherwise.

Is This First Edition Champions? No. Well, not exactly. A lot has happened in roleplaying game design and theory in the last forty years, and Champions Now will take this into account. Unusually for a version of Champions, Ron is placing a large focus on character play and development through play, but far less on mechanical character creation. This is his vision of Champions, informed by the important work done by himself and other small press game designers over the last decade. It isn’t simply a reprint or our version of an “OSR” game.

Why Ron Edwards? Besides being a Champions fan from way back, Ron is considered by many to be the father of the “indie” game movement of designers who self-publish their work, which often focus on collaborative storytelling and narration. He is also the author of numerous interesting essays on comic books and roleplaying games, some of which are going to find their way into the pages of Champions Now. You can read some of his work HERE.

What is your agenda here? Simple. We thought it would be interesting to see what Ron would do with the early versions of Champions that he loves, and he thought it would be interesting to spend time after the successful conclusion of the Kickstarter project including you - the backers - in what that will eventually mean. I can't answer any further because I don't know yet. You'll have to participate to find out.

Actually, I've worked very hard at making certain 6th Edition (and even some 5th Edition) books are made available print-on-demand via DriveThruRPG when we sell through their print runs. In fact, the only reason the core 6th Ed rules aren't currently available that way is because Ruben and I had to recently redo their layout to fix some problems. But they will never really go out of print.

This isn't a nostalgia project - or, at least, not mostly one. In fact, Ron removed much of my "nostalgia" text from the Story within the project. Rather, Ron came to us with a proposal. He wanted to back to the deep roots of the Hero System - back before the 4th, 5th, and 6th Editions - and create his own modern version of Champions, informed by storytelling and other narrative influences. And, being that Ron is the guy that created THIS and did THIS, we decided that it sounded like a fun idea. Which is why we're doing it.

In 3rd edition, Telekinesis was 1 point per 1 STR.  1d6 STR presumably means 1d6 STR damage, which is 5 points of STR, which costs 5 points.  That's how I'd build it myself, at least.

NPCs (villains) can have all the minions you want them to have.

Heroes (PCs) need to convince someone else to play their sidekicks.

Actually, this is a good introduction to something I was thinking about today.

Silver Age Batman was a great joiner.

In his own title, and Detective Comics, he was the first word in "... and Robin".

He also appeared in World's Finest, along side Superman.

He also appeared in "The Brave and the Bold", alongside random other heroes.

He appeared in the Justice League of America.

Later on (after the Silver Age), he formed his own team - the Outsiders.

If you assessed him in terms of Champions Now, he wasn't an idiot. He always had someone to cover his back.

From my bench test analysis, it's always a good idea to have someone who has your back. Sidekicks are a good idea.

In case you missed it, Champions Now is a new project that's doing a Kickstarter. This thread is for posting character builds using the Champions Now playtest document. I don't have time in the near future to do a playtest, but maybe by playing with builds and letting the designers see what we are building based off their document, we can help out a little.
