  1. Re: Old Shotgun Question Thanks for the website and replies. I thought it was a p.cap but wanted to make sure.
  2. For all you gun experts. Antique Shotgun Is this a percussion cap shotgun? It looks a little like it to me but I've not found a date for it yet so I'm not sure. Thanks.

  4. Re: Foxbat Went a Courtin'.... Althought I'm pretty sure Leroy the Amazing Exoskeleton Man also appeared with Foxbat in Champions II or III. I think his name was Leray...wonder where I put those old books.
  5. Re: How to handle Western Hero Duels/Showdowns Just about the best indication you could get you were going too far with something in Sengoku Japan was when a samurai flicked the hilt out to show an inch or two of the blade. There might not be a duel, but he's showing he's willing to fight.
  6. Re: Foxbat Went a Courtin'.... The disads need toned down in general. The light based vuln was a effect of her powers 'resonating on a light based frequency' or something. The killing attack one was psychological shock. Frankly, I think she'll get hit more by killing attacks than light based attacks. Not sure when I'll have the time but I'll start making notes on converting her to 5th ed. Hopefully I'll be done by next weekend.
  7. Re: Point Efficiency vs. Concept I recall a What If that suggested "What if Spiderman's webbing didn't dissolve after an hour?" and showed a picture Spiderman swinging through a NY City covered in webbing like some huge spider nest.

  10. Re: What Fantasy/Sci-Fi book have you just finished? Please rate it... Just finished Danse Macabre by Laurell K. Hamilton. I've been following the series from the begining, through all the changes it's gone through. And again it seems to be evolving. Or perhaps devolving. The series began as murder mysteries with some sexual tension. Soap opera elements were added liberally. Then sex. Then a harem of men. Along the way the actual crime solving has gotten pushed to the side. But this is the first book I've read where there was not at least a pretense there was a crime to solve. No appearances by anyone at Animator's Inc. No RPIT. Just a day in the life of Anita Blake with a vague backstory that master vampires from other US cities are visiting to see a vampire ballet group JC has invited. Micah and Richard are as annoying as ever. If both went away I would not mind at all. Anita levels up again, as do some other vampires. The cast is getting so crowded there really isn't room for everyone. And more people keep being added. Really, not a bad book as long as you accept it has pretty much nothing to do with the early Anita Blake books. One minor annoyance. LKH is embracing MM sexual situations with the enthusiasm of a Yaoi fangirl, which is fine. But it makes it even more glaringly obvious that every female bisexual or lesbian character is evil/alien/bad. This book is no exception.
  11. Re: Point Efficiency vs. Concept I recall a player from a game I used to play in who could be rendered useless in any combat by giving him a firearm. He'd use a 1d6+1 Uzi instead of his 15d6 attacks and not mind that he wasn't doing any damage. They did have the scene with Wolverine revealing the claws were part of him, but I don't recall him saying anything more thaqn "Yes, everyone thinks they are part of the suit." They weren't implanted as part of a plan to fool people. Interestingly, originally the claws were a part of the gloves. As far as the concept goes, I would not see anything wrong with it. It's a little gimmicky, and the deceptive source of power thing has been so overdone in the games I play in that it's cliched. But things might be different for his group, and I don't see anything that fishy in it rules wise. The only thing I'd really do is make sure it wasn't stepping on everyone elses toes when it comes to team role. Martial artist/gadgeteer/brick is pretty broad.
  12. Re: [ultimate Marvel] Ultimizing Thor Villains Which is what I said. This makes Enchantress relatively easy since there is nothing goddess like to convert over to an Ultimate version of her. She has magic, an enchanted kiss, and the might power of vanity. That's about all I'd need to adapt. Well, Dr. Strange has appeared in Spiderman using magic. Vampires exist in the world, Morbius and Blade have both made appearances. As well as Thor, Loki, Volstagg (probably). And it's likely Odin who helped Thor recently. So I'd have to say yes. Though it took them some time to establish that.
  13. I'm considering ideas for an upcoming Marvel game I'll be playing in and idea occured to me. Since the idea is that the PCs are the kids of supervillains (inspired by Runaways, yes), I was considering a way to Ultimize old Thor villains Executioner and Enchantress. Seemingly Amora the Enchantress would change little. Asgardian, magic using. In some ways she's easy to Ultimize simply because she's not a goddess. No divine power, just learned magic and the ability to enthrall. Take away the silly costume of her classic period, dress her in something fashionable and she's set. Executioner I'm wondering more about. In the main Marvel Universe he was half giant, half Asgardian. I'm tempted to make him a mutant for this version, someone found by Enchantress when she fled/was banished to earth. To my mind, the essentials of Executioner are he is muscle, a highly skilled fighter and very powerful. But his origin determines in my mind the style of fighting he uses, which would be what the kid learns. The classic Asgardian/giant Execitioner would teach the weapons style from UMA and probably basic brawling. Maybe Norse wrestling. A more mortal Executioner would use more modern martial arts and could be from anyplace, Scandenavia, Asia, American, ect. I'm uncertain and how much to change him, though. Any one else try to Ultimize characters for a game?
  14. Re: What Fantasy/Sci-Fi book have you just finished? Please rate it... I recently finished War of the Spider Queen II: Insurrection by Thomas Reid. Let me start off by saying I liked the first book in the series. It set up the situation well, firmly established the ensemble cast of characters, giving each of them some cool moments without letting one over shadow all the others, and the characters were suitably drowish, whatever that means. Not a fantastic book, but an enjoyable read. Book 2 failed to live up to this promising start. WotSQ I was about drow head priestess Quenthel, Pharaun the wizard, Ryld the swordmaster, Faeryl of Ched Nasad, and Jeggred the draegloth, a sort of half demon. WotSQ II is all about Pharaun, everyone else is reduced to a sidekick or whipping girl for him. Pharaun gets most of the cool lines, wins the battles for the group and is treated as the important member of the group by most others. He gets a half-succubus chasing after him and getting jealous while other drow girls also seem to fall for him. Even Quenthel, supposedly the leader of the group, gets written poorly. In book 1 she's successfully defending herself from demonic attacks by the head wizard of Menzoberranzan, despite not being able to cast spells. In Book 2 she's become rather stupid, weak, and basicly seems to give up leadership to Pharaun for no better reason than the author likes Pharaun better. Reid in general seems to have issues with writing strong female characters. Despite the drow being ruled by women, they are all come poorly in this book. As a stand alone this would be an ok book. The plot is decently done, good conflict, most of the drow of Ched Nasad come off as chaotic stupid but the plots are not totally unbelievable. But writing drow and writing a book that's supposed to feature a group of characters doesn't seem to play to Reid's strengths. Hopefully the third book in this series is better. Books recently brought, set up to review next: War of the Spider Queen III: Condemnation by Richard Baker Danse Macabre by Laurell K. Hamilton
  15. Re: Anybody out there playing Doctor Who Hero? I've never actually played a Doctor Who game, though it's been discussed a couple of times in my group. The drawback being everyone want to be the timelord. At the moment I'm settling on a time powered character for the next game I play in (creation still in progress).

  17. Re: Combat Precognition Now somehow I'm thinking of the PreCommandos from the new Legion of Super-Heros series. Combat specialists working as police on Naltar, Dream Girl's homeworld. They trained to focus precog down to the next ten seconds, instead of seeing farther in the future. Their skills seemed to be mostly combat levels. Could see what attack was coming next and avoid it. Knew where to swing to hit where you were dodging to. Maybe a little enchanced senses since one punched out of Shadow Lass's darkness because he knew she was going to be standing there.

Re: x3 I'd highly recommend the Ultimates. It's my favorite of the Ultimate titles by far. Two TPB's out so far. Ultiamte X-Men is also fun. Very different from the originals but generally in ways I can live with. Wolverine is much more of a pure bad guy, sometimes trying to go good. And more of a womanizer, which is an interesting touch. I'm sure I'm not the only one who thought X2 with them showing Cyclop's CD player blasting out Backstreet Boys was another shot at Cyke.

Re: x3 I'm far more looking forward to the Magneto movie at this point than I am the Wolverine movie. Especially if Mystique is back. It could be a good chance to flesh out Magneto a little more. Wolverine has been the center of the three X-men movies, so they'll need to work on a new angle, not just keep teasing his past.

Re: x3 If the movies had wasted everyone's time for six years, they would not be profitable or popular. Since they are both, the movies are not wasting everyone's time. The only time in question is people choosing to drive out, find a place the movie is showing, and pay money to get inside to see the movie. And they mostly seem to be enjoying it.

Re: x3 IMDB lists a Wolverine movie and a Magneto movie in production. I'm more interested in the Magneto movie, but I'm a mutant sympathizer. Spoiler tags are not working for me, so I sent a PM.
