  1. Re: UNITY 2010: A New Champions Campaign I don't know, Bill. That's only 161 "Cools" out of a possible 162. You might want to work on that poor score. I'll refuse to play anymore if we can't keep the gaming quality up to snuff. -Lonewalker
  2. Re: UNITY 2010: A New Champions Campaign "Oh, bother..." Lonewalker aka Straight Arrow
  3. Re: UNITY 2010: A New Champions Campaign Thanks to all for the well wishes on my wedding! Everything went off without a single hitch and we had a great time. We are now back from our honeymoon so the dry spell of UNITY story posts that you all have patiently suffered through can now end. We promise to try to maintain the high quality of entertainment to which you all have come to expect. Lonewalker aka Straight Arrow
  4. Re: UNITY 2010: A New Champions Campaign It's not our fate to ever be able to relax. Information has been revealed that our world and its people will soon face a great danger. And it may be possible that said people will not want us to protect them. In such circumstances, there is no time for vacations. (That...or Bill is just a malevolent, sadistic cuss...) Stay tuned, true believers, I think the ride gets bumpy from here... Straight Arrow (aka Lonewalker)
  5. Re: UNITY 2010: A New Champions Campaign I'm in the process of tweaking and lightly revamping both Straight Arrow and Aurora (who is played by my fiancee Kate). Once I've got them finished, I'll send them to Bill and post them here. I've also got a version of Red Dragon, but it hasn't been updated for a month or so (since I first re-designed him for Allen). If I can get the updates from my fellow player, I'll post him here too. Lonewalker
  6. Re: Minor Power Build - Magnetic Media Sounds like a simple enhanced senses build or a special effect is called for. Thanks for the suggestions. Lonewalker
  7. Re: Build your own "New Avengers"! Pff. If Marvel doesn't let a little metaphysics get in the way of their storylines, why should we? 'Course, we could demand that you include a sentence or two about how said hero or heroine came back... Lonewalker
  8. I was wondering how folks would build this minor power. I remember seeing this a couple of times in comics and TV where a character (usually with energy powers) was able to read information on magnetic media (floppy discs, CDs, etc) without the need of any external device. How would ya'll represent this in game terms? I was figuring either a special effect of lots of Microscopic vision or some kind of Cyberkinesis trick. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks. 9. Re: This week on "Champions"... This is actually Dungeons & Dragons but, oh, well... The Order of the Torch (Sunday 5pm): The hobgoblins and evil fungi have been vanquished and Lars, Oskar, and Zook have each gained a new level. With Sindellyn, Teveri, and Quillan now only moments from leveling, the party chooses to press on deeper into the Fortress of Glannath, thoughts of greater treasure and xps running through their minds. But their enemies have been warned and may even be waiting for them! Plus, their next encounter may not be one that they can kill and loot! Are these brave adventurers ready for a real roleplaying encounter?? [Rated TV-PG for intense violence (V), coarse language (L), and suggestive dialogue (D)] Lonewalker
  10. Re: Build your own "New Avengers"! My take on the matter... Captain America (it's just not the Avengers without Cap behind the wheel) Iron Man (he's got camaraderie with Cap and he is THE iconic powered armor character) Thor (the big guy - dude's got style) Hawkeye (because I like archers and I like him best of all) Vision (he's classic and he's versatile) Scarlet Witch (most interesting mystic ever on the roster) Wasp (especially with the dual size shifting abilities) Tigra (every team needs a feral type and this one fills out the honey quota nicely) Optionals: Wonder Man (cool character but my current roster has bricks a plenty already) Quicksilver (he always seemed a bit less arrogant with the Avengers than with the X-teams) There you go. My takes and my rationale. (I'm surprised Bill hasn't popped in on this thread...he's always had very specific ideas on which Avengers he liked best...) Lonewalker
  11. Re: UNITY 2010: A New Champions Campaign Yeah, when that thing came out, we were in serious Whiskey Tango Foxtrot mode. We didn't believe Bill was actually serious until he announced, "Okay, Phase 1!" So, for the sake of his players' sanity, quit encouraging him! Lonewalker (Just kidding, bro! )
  12. Re: UNITY 2010: A New Champions Campaign It was a great session. I don't think my dice have ever performed so well. Of course...I'm probably due for a really bad night after that chapter. Gotta balance out the karma, y'know. And if you liked this, wait until you read about our misadventure in Japan.... Lonewalker
  13. Re: First game I think that under both characters there should be advice on how to tone them down or juice them up to match your campaign. I'd take the starting point value of the player characters, add a couple hundred points (Destroyer and Mechanon ARE supposed to be the baddest of the bad), and follow the suggestions to tone them down appropriately. Lonewalker
  14. Re: The World of Edean Great stuff! Especially like the beast races (with unique martial arts styles)! Can't wait to see more! Lonewalker
  15. Re: Power Assistance Please Area Effect with Selective Targets sounds like the way to go. If you want to make the spell more powerful (and expensive), you could always throw on Continuous and Uncontrolled as well...to represent feeding the spell some energy and having it continue until it ran out of juice. You could bring the cost down by tacking on some sort of Limitation that states only a certain number of targets can be hit each Phase...sort of representing that the bolt is jumping from person to person each Phase rather than just affecting the same Area. My two cents. Lonewalker
  16. Re: UNITY 2010: A New Champions Campaign Oh, never doubt Straight Arrow's willingness to take a hit for one of his teammates. If someone has to do the dirty, he'll be happy to do so if it means his comrades are unstained. Better him than them in his opinion. That was awesome. The whole lot of us...I think we were up to eight players at the time...were just staring at you with that "WTF?" expression on our faces. Until if finally dawned on us that Johann was right. I mean, what was a couple of missiles (even nuclear capable) to a Green Lantern Power Ring, huh? That was neither the first nor the last time that the lot of us (sans Brian, of course) were of the mind: "Just do what Johann says; at least he knows what the heck's going on!" Lonewalker
  17. Re: UNITY 2010: A New Champions Campaign No, no, let's hear him out... Lonewalker aka Straight Arrow
  18. Re: UNITY 2010: A New Champions Campaign You lot are nuts. This is the absolute last thing I need. (To say nothing of the PR hit UNTIL will take if the gossip magazines hear about your jests!) Lonewalker aka Straight Arrow (who is trying SO hard to be good!!)
  19. Re: UNITY 2010: A New Champions Campaign Every job has its downsides, mate... Oh, she's a right headturner, she is. ('Course, by 'headturner,' I mean turning your head 'til the neck bloody well snaps!) Lonewalker aka Straight Arrow
  20. Re: UNITY 2010: A New Champions Campaign Oh, yes, grand. Telegraph my misery across the world, why don't you? (I'll bet that crazy bird even lurks on these boards...) Lonewalker aka Straight Arrow
  21. Re: UNITY 2010: A New Champions Campaign You're not helping, mate... Lonewalker
  22. Re: Villain creation question [quote=JShe's a villain named Ragdoll, acrobat/contortionist-turned-criminal. She wears a really baggy costume of loosely stitched together rags thats really easy for her to move in and also makes her basically impossible to hit on account of you can never really see where exactly her limbs are in the mess of rags, and shes super dodgy. Okay, here's where you guys come in: How do I simulate her dodgy-ness? She doesn't need the suit to be dodgy, but it does help her. Should I buy her Armour? Resistant DEF? Can I just raise her DCV through the roof somehow, and if so, how? What would you guys do in my place? And if that particular problem sounds lame, maybe can ya give me some suggestions for Powers that'd be cool for a villain like this? Shes low powered (150 + 100 disads), so keep that in mind. Sounds like you've got quite a few ideas already. But I'll throw in my two cents. Defensive powers: Bonuses to DCV, a Martial Arts suite (Martial Dodge, Martial Block, Flying Dodge) and CVs with those manuevers, Combat Luck, Missile Defection (and Reflection if she can grab physical missile out of the air and whip them back at her opponents), Damage Reduction (if she can get her rags in the way), and Desolidification (to make her real expensive, buy some attacks that are usable while she's Desolid). Other powers: HAs of various advantages, Stretching (a must), Entangles (also a must; maybe with a bonus for creating walls), Flashes (with physical SFX), TK for grabbing objects, Extra Limbs (lots of sleeves), Swinging (give her lots of movement and keep her moving around the battlefield), enhanced Strength with grab or similar manuevers, Force Wall (throwing up a stretch of rags), Images (she flows through a long length of rags, making it hard to tell which bit of movement is the real her)....and I'm sure that's just the tip of the iceberg. Sounds like what you want to create is a Martial Artist/Stretching character. Just give her whatever tricks you might give a Plastic Man style character and redefine it as her flexibility and wierd rag costume. Good luck with her. -Lonewalker

  24. Re: UNITY 2010: A New Champions Campaign If ever there was a living embodiment of that statement, it'd be poor Straight Arrow. Lonewalker
  25. Re: UNITY 2010: A New Champions Campaign I appreciate the solidarity. I'm afraid that Straight Arrow is about to do something that's bound to get himself slapped upside the head by his teammates.... "You did what?!?" "Trust me. It was for the greater good." "What's your definition of 'good'?" "How about saving your lives?" "..." Lonewalker
