  1. Re: List Your CO Heroes! I've been playing on and off for about a year now as , no surprise, Plex. I am now a 28th level Behemoth. I typically only ever play solo unless there is an event or an alert I feel like playing. I'm having fun and I like the new storyline about Destroyer coming back. (When it works) I have yet to actually move from the free to play version, but i am considering it. I really haven't tried to play on a team yet. But I am having fun exploring the universe and randomly getting into trouble. i liked making my Nemesis, but all I have been fighting since the first meet is the occasional group of minions. It's been fun especially since it has been a few years since i was able to find anyone to play the RPG.
  2. Re: The Worst character in comics Well, if we are going to do bad code names, and LSH has many, I think Infectious Lass might top the chart...
  3. Re: The Worst character in comics Morrison's Doom patrol is what got me back into reading comics. I never liked the earlier version of DP, but loved this. But each to their own taste. My favorite era for the comics industry was when all the writers were rewriting the old silly characters. (The English invasion: Gaimen, Moore, Morrison, Ellis, Robinson, Milligan- okay he's Irish but you get the point, etc...) I don't like 75% of comics involving super powered animals, hence my dislike of anything TMNT and of similar style. Though I was smart enough to buy the original series and then sell it later for a wack of cash... I know when DC put out a collection of Lobo trades they put in a special book called the Wisdom of Lobo, which was blank inside. I know a lot of the customers were very angry at this. Personally I thought it was funny and expected as much, plus I didn't shell out the cash for the slip case special edition to get said book. So I agree that a good writer can turn anything into something worth reading, usually, if the subject interests you, except for Lobo and Cable. (My choices)
  4. Re: The Worst character in comics Pretty much anything created by Rob Liefeld but the milkman already mentioned him. (Saw after the fact.) But you know what, every character that think of that I can't stand, to the point of burning said comics, Rob Liefeld is involved in some way so the point stands. I do agree with the poster below, though, about Lobo. Now Ambush Bug was funny.... I would also put on the block TMNT and similar. (Except Usagi Yojimbo and Cerebus)
  5. Re: Who is the best Super in comics? Good guys Mike Allred's Madman The Flash (Take your pick I really liked them all) The Legion of Superheroes (Don't make me choose!) Bad guys Ra's al Ghul Riddler (Run, Riddler, Run) Magneto For overall appeal to me, though, Sandman and the Endless are the greatest.
  6. Re: The Essential *Good* Silver Age Most of what I have read in the superhero genre has already been posted, how about Shazam/Captain Marvel or the brave and the Bold? I did read a lot of the monster/supernatural/horror comics from this time. I also read the Classics Illustrated.
  7. Re: What are/were DC's great non-superhero titles? Sandman, Fables, Jack of Fables, Hellblazer, Books of Magic, Preacher, Shade the Changing man, V for Vendetta, Ronin (Frank Miller), Death: The High Cost of Living Go here and take your pick: http://www.everything2.com/index.pl?node_id=1674462 Or I can go on. The Vertigo Line is where I live....(and all that came before that now gets thrown into this title)
  8. Re: What is your favourite Superhero adventure/storyline? Marvel Secret Wars 1, Infinity Gauntlet, MCP Barry Windsor Smith Wolverine Origin (The only real origin), X-Men: God Loves, Man Kills and the Phoenix Saga, the Death of Captain Marvel, Daredevil Born Again ('86) DC Crisis on Infinite Earths, Batman: The Killing Joke, Most of the Batman Elseworld stories, Doom Patrol Crawling From The Wreckage, Animal Man- Origin of the Species, Kid Eternity, The Trenchcoat Brigade, the original Books of Magic, Mister E, Justice League Giffen Other Bratpack There's a lot more, but I am sticking to mostly a superhero theme where I can remember story arcs and not just naming a whole series- which I could do for a lot more.

  10. Re: Must use villains I'd love to see a book that had the best of all the old villains. Especially since I lost most of my old villain books from various moves. Updated versions wouldn't bother me either.
  11. Re: Must use villains Genocide/IHA Updated version of Deathstroke Panda and Racoon (updated) VIPER Mechanon Dr Destroyer Menton the Ultimates Grond
  12. Re: What was Marvel's best decade? I'd have to say early 80's to the early 90's. I really liked Daredevil during this time.

    Plex's Campaign

Re: Plex's Campaign We were finally able to start the campaign last night. The players chose Rush, Psyche, Titan, Vulcan, and since we had a female playing she went with the only female character I had made up, Lumina. (Based her on one of the characters posted here on the boards somewhere.) Knight Owl and Whiteout weren't used, and then they quickly figured out that someone should have probably played Knight Owl- since he is based around batman. But if someone else joins the group they can play him. It went pretty well, considering all the players had never played the Hero System before and 1 had never played any RPG. I was pretty loose with some of the rules just to get them familiar with the way things worked. I didn't even go over the character sheets with them before we started. I just handed them out, with backgrounds and pictures of their character, and we started right in with the role play. Once battle commenced, the game ground to a slow pace as I took each person and explained what they could potentially do with their character for their action in each segment they were active. After a while everyone was getting it and it went faster. During battle, if they wanted to do something that was going against a disad I would explain why their character wouldn't do that or act that way. Overall, everyone had a good time and want to play again. That's the important part. They did some investigation, got some clues, had a battle, did some RP amongst each other and NPCs, and they all met up in the first issue. I think some of them just liked rolling the massive amounts of dice for damage and counting it up. Nothing like a fist full of d6's to get a person into a fight... The first battle was a group of thugs, 7, and a thug hyped up on a mutagen drug- I used the stats for Ogre- against another group of 8 "guards" at a warehouse they were investigating. The "guards" were actually Viper agents in disguise as they had set up a trap for whoever it was that stole some of the mutagen drug from them. (The thugs didn't know they stole from Viper, but such is life...) The players fought the thugs and the Ogre like villain with the disguised Viper agents. (None of them knew anything about Viper and since the agents weren't wearing uniforms they didn't recognize them or their weapons. If someone played Knight Owl, then the outcome would have been different, he does know a bit about Viper.) After the battle, the undercover Viper agents gave them a line about them being security hired by the warehouse company to guard and stop any break-ins which had happened a few times in the past month or so. The "security team" offered to take all the thugs and the hyped up leader into custody and deliver them to justice. The PC's decided that it was better to call the police and let them handle the situation. Once the police arrived, the security officer/Viper team leader offered the use of their van to take the supervillain into custody since they were ill prepared to take him in. (No one had mentioned to the police that there was a meta-human to take in.) The police agreed and we left off as the team was going back to their respective lives. Titan did follow the van to make sure it went where it said it was going. (It is since he is making it obvious he is following, but the Viper Agents are interrogating the hyped up thug as they go towards police HQ.) Once they get to police HQ, the hyped up thug will be in a distressed state and need to be taken to the hospital. (It'll be assumed at first that it is because of the mutagenic drug, but once they get a chance to examine him, it will be found out that he was "influenced" by external forces, ie: tortured, and he'll be dead shortly.) By the time the PC's go to look for the van, it will be long gone. The clue they have is to go back to the warehouse and investigate further... The only other thing that happened was that one player took over for the Lumina character since the woman playing decided that this really wasn't for her.
  14. Re: Your favorite Hero Codes of Honor The hero is always supposed to be better than the villain and will NEVER stoop to villain tactics. The moral high ground, 4 color outlook, whatever you want to call it...
  15. Re: Random WTF moment... Plex: Climbs up the ladder and starts talking to the person painting the sky. Random movies and tv shows go through his head with this type of theme and starts to wonder if he's going to get another trip in we're all just some guy's imagination playing a game scenario...He knows that is not true, it's the guys playing the game in HIS imagination.
  16. Re: Let's get Ready To Rumble! (help) All right, thanks for the help. I'll make the characters and use 350 points. That makes my life easier anyway in the long run. Once again, thanks for the advice.
  17. Re: Stronghold Concept Art I thought it looked really cool, but at the same time I felt kind of creeped out by it, like I was playing Silent Hill or a creepy old place found in Myst.
  18. Re: Let's get Ready To Rumble! (help)
  19. Re: Let's get Ready To Rumble! (help) Yeah, I seriously starting to think that people here are right and I should just generate all the characters and not let in any home made characters. This way I can throw in some other interesting side plots/objectives for people to see what happens. It's going to be fun. I haven't been to any conventions in years, let alone ever run any type of convention games. (I hope it's not any harder than running a LARP all weekend.) I'll be pretty busy now since I also agreed to run the Steve Jackson game Killer for them all weekend. At least now I'll get into the convention for free. yeah! Time to get generating characters.... Though if anyone else has some ideas, please post. I have a month til the convention.
  20. Re: Let's get Ready To Rumble! (help) I would love to do this, but alas I have absolutely no superhero miniatures. I do have a lot of fantasy miniatures. I guess I could use cardboard cut outs. I also have no time to build a diorama. I figured I would use a megamat and if the player goes off the mat, they are out of the competition. Doing it as the last part of the Great Supervillain contest like you suggest may be the easiest way to do this. Thanks for the suggestion. It actually gives it a storyline. Or maybe I could work my game so that the other games I want to work up for the convention all lead to this scenario at the end...hmmm Say heroes start to investigate the disappearance of heroes and villains from all over the world....
  21. Re: Let's get Ready To Rumble! (help) Right now, I am figuring that I will use 750 points for the rumble, it will take place inside an arena, anything goes- as long as it is legal-technically, anyone thrown out of the arena is done- being thrown straight up or flying straight up does not count as being thrown out, the body must actually break a plane/line around the arena- or if you are knocked out- con'd is okay as long as you don't get thrown out while you are recovering. Is there anything else I should do? Are the points too high? Any house rules I should consider? One friend did mention that I should make up a BBEG that comes in at the end when there is only 1 player left and see if the player can beat him.
  22. Re: Let's get Ready To Rumble! (help) Most like they would be taken out by someone else. The whole scenario is really designed around who could munchkin the best character without breaking the rules overtly. the whole game is set up as a big free for all, no other motivation there other than to be the last one standing. Though if i wanted to be devious, your train of thought would be fun....
  23. I'm thinking about running a couple of champions games for a convention that is running in the last part of March in my hometown. One thought I was thinking of doing was basically a cage match with all the contestants. (Not original, but it's always fun.) Last one standing in the arena, wins. What they win, I have no idea, I'll leave that up to the people running the convention. I figured that it would be an anything goes as long as it doesn't break any of the 5ER rules. Now what I am wondering is what the point limit should be and if there should be a few other rules that should be enforced? Should I also make up a few characters for people to play?
