  1. Re: The Reaper Also, 2 NND's is REALLY frowned upon, 1 should be the limit, or else they are too powerful. On a personal note that Multipower in general just seems like its way to strong. It feels a bit munchkiny to me to be honest, but that's strictly an opinion and I have no idea what kind of campaign your running this in (if any). That is further exacerbated by the fact that you really didnt take any skills. To each his own of course, but I wouldn't let him in a campaign.
  2. Re: The Fox is Dead: Justice Seems I had my get it wrong today hat on, her Dexterity and speed looked wrong to me but on a second look i see that you bought them as powers, and merely added them to the base (at least that's how I am reading it now, after being wrong on Vengence I wanted to double check everything here). I'm used to seeing that sort of thing as 20 (23) or the like to differentiate base + extra of a characteristic, but they way your GM is ruling NCM probably just confused me. Sorry guys, I try not to come across as a know it all, but even in school in my younger days I always felt that it was better to speak up and find out that YOU are wrong than it is to just think someone is wrong and stay silent. I still think her defenses are low, and if you have a rationale or I'm missing something PLEASE feel free to tell me, we learn more from being wrong and having our beliefs challenged than any other way
  3. Re: The Fox is Dead: Vengence My bad, you are correct, i think i got confused with the base rules and the naked advantage rules. Sorry about that. At least now i know how to do it correctly myself as well Ah well, "never be afraid to be wrong" is like my motto. Thanks for sticking to your guns so I looked it up again!
  4. Re: The Fox is Dead: Vengence One major issue here, your AVAD's don't work like that RAW. HA only adds to STR, and in order for you to have an AVAD for HA you have to buy it for the total strength you plan to use. (IE you cant pay for 3d6 of AVAD and get 6d6 bonus for free). You either need a naked advantage on your base STR and your Spirit Magic STR, or buy this as a No Range EB with AVAD (if you only wanted 3d6 of AVAD in the first place). I guess your GM could rule otherwise but its WAY overpowered the way you have built it, its an 18 DC power in a campaign where there is a 12 DC limit (according to your previous post). Not to mention the reduction in cost. Also, buying both OIF and Unified Power seems a little cheesy to me, but that's a call for your GM I guess.
  5. Re: The Fox is Dead: Justice Cool character! I spotted a couple of pricing errors, no big tho. Also, i get that she is a high DCV character but as pointed out previously to me on one of my characters, even one hit at your stated DC levels will easily stun her, and has a really good chance to KO her completely. Might want to look at her defenses (15 PD/ED total vs 12 DC's means on avg 27 points of stun gets through)
  6. Re: What if there are no super-prisons? which is a really good case to kill all lawyers.... (Or at least keep them out of comic books/HERO games)
  7. Re: Irreducible attacks I would say be careful calling something a "bad write up" until you have tried it out a few times. Sometimes the intent may get lost in the mechanics and what looks bad might actually work quite well in play. Just saying that as a general thought, some appearances can be deceiving. That being said, nothing wrong with changing something to suit your play style
  8. Re: Compactor 6E (400) wow, unified power on everything? Am i correct that if he get ANY of his powers drain/suppressed or otherwise affected he looses all of them? or am i thinking of unified power wrong?
  9. Re: You Don't Have to be Crazy to be a Superhero, but it Helps! X-men has always been to me one of the most glaring examples of "Part of the universe, but not part of it". The "world" they live in is supposedly the same world as the rest of the Marvel Universe, but the majority of people in X-men simply don't act like the majority of people in the rest of the marvel universe. And vice versa. The whole issue with mutant vs non-mutant in my opinion is just another casualty of crossover fever. :/
  10. Re: Character Creation Cheat Sheet Update: I got approval, YAY! Its taking forever to put it together (i have about 1/2 the limitations to go, then complications, vehicles, and bases) but then i will probably put the thing on google docs and add a link over here
  11. Re: Familiar group, wanna teach 'em Basic 6th first, for a Girl Genius campaign I am very familiar with Girl Genius, i used to read it for quite a while. I don't really feel that templates would be appropriate for sparks, unless you just want to list a bunch of gadgeteer type skills in one area. Sparks have enough difference between them that they really don't require a standardized template. If i were running something like this the most I would do would be to allow sparks to buy a Gadget Pool to represent all the things they can do. However, that would be HIGHLY inappropriate for an intro game as VPP's require a good working knowledge of the game to use correctly. As far as guidelines for sparks go, i would recommend lots of science and engineering skills, almost all powers should be bought with the focus limitation, and physical stats should be higher than normals, but not REALLY high (STR, for instance, should be around 20 for instance, you often see them toting around huge amounts of machinery). They would however have really high INT and possibly EGO (although mental powers would not be appropriate). Just some starting suggestions.
  12. Re: Team Building Yeah, but honestly, unless you are putting high end weapons in said car, does it really have any impact in the game? 1 of them, yeah, it substitutes for a movement power, but 10? if you want the nice garage full of fancy cars so be it, but having more than 1 (even 1 per hero) really isnt game breaking. I do agree you have to watch that doubling thing tho and make sure they arent trying to do something cheaty with it (ie building a gun with 8 charges to get the cost way down, then buying up a whole bunch of guns on the cheap)
  13. Re: Do you consider Batman to be a Gadgetee or something else? Some incarnations may vary on this, but in quite a few batman does indeed "invent" any number of his own gadgets, especially the "one story" type gadgets. True he gets alot of them from other sources (Lucious Fox for example) but he is generally seen as being about to cobble something together. To me, Batman is an amalgam of types. and he is highly flexible in that he will even change archetype when the circumstances call for it "Powered Armored Brick Batman!" for instance.
  14. Re: Things you never see in a comic book rofl
  15. Re: Team Building yeah Greywind, unfortunately my finances have had the effect of severely limiting my access to comics so most of my knowledge comes from more readily available material. In the Justice League tv show Wayne has the Lighthouse built before he even really proposes the whole Justice League concept to the rest of the heros. Certainly later other heroes may have contributed, and I am sure that this is different from what has been presented in various comic incarnations of the League...sadly I don't have access to those stories.
  16. Re: What if there are no super-prisons? Also how the government "reacts" will go a long way to setting the tone of your world, or if that is already established their reaction should reflect that. Realistically speaking most governments are going to be highly concerned about the rise of superhumans, and this alien in particular, and are likely to already be taking measures to improve their technology and tactics to respond to this or other threats. After all, the main purpose of government is, supposedly, to protect its citizens (not always the case of course, but most other government concepts will be even MORE interested in increasing their power, not less). Its difficult for a government to protect citizens against threats that are innately stronger than itself and therefore they would actively seek to bridge that gap. This creates plenty of gaming opportunities, and allows to the PC's to decide what their role is going to be in society. If the government insists on having the alien turned over, do the PC's agree? Do they set themselves up as being outside of the law? what are the repercussions of this? If they do follow the rules, will the villain escape? Do they turn over the Mirrorverse technology to the government? Will the government make good use of it if they do? Of course most of these questions are setups for different tones of games. You can define the tone, to an extent, by how you make the government act, but the PC's of course have the ability to radically affect the tone in how they choose to react to the governments decisions.
  17. Re: Question: Can you give Limitations on a Perk? your right bigbywolfe, missed that, sorry
  18. Re: Ratios of Superpower Archetypes It varies by genre of course, but generally in my "worlds" i think of mentalists as being fairly rare, true "gadgeteers" and highly uncommon. Most of the rest are really similar in ratio (in an abstract sense). Of course that is because of the way I view the powers. Mental powers are REALLY strong and cost effective in a non-mentalist game, but poor and alot weaker in a mentalist campaign. (I.E. if no one is buying MD mentalists are crazy powerful, if everyone does then they become really weak.) Gadgeteers on the other hand are uncommon because I generally don't care for VPP's. They are too easy to abuse, and if I am going to be reluctant to let a PC take one, it would seem unfair of me if they constantly had to fight against them. And note, I do get how they work, and they are great for a number of things, so I am not CONDEMNING VPP"s by any means. They are just not something I would put in the hands of a player I was not really familiar with, as that can easily lead to contention between me and a player if they keep trying to find a way to use them to powergame over the rest of the party.
  19. Re: Gods with Off Switches vs. Loaded Guns. DC vs. Marvel in Character Design. Yeah, but cheaper isn't really a valid excuse to use, IMO. YMMV of course. I would consider it a summon because a contact will generally only provide you information and resources. Ive never heard of a contact being used to get someone to come in and fight your battles for you, or pull your s*** out of the fire, that's a summon in my book, or follower etc. I get that this is merely a "thought construct" sort of exercise, but if we don't apply most of the rules to these that you would apply to an npc/pc then IMO you are defeating the purpose.
  20. Re: Team Building I don't entirely understand which you are asking. The "thought exercise" view where you are trying to build a team from an established canon? Probably try to simulate it as best as I can. Avengers: Stark bought it all on his character sheet, JLA? Batman did the same. Others? if they have "team" gear look at where it comes from in the source material. If not readily defined probably use the "team contribution" as generally suggested in the rules and have everyone chip in a number of points. The "NPC" view? I generally don't worry about it. Unless my vehicle/base/gear is incredibly combat effective I just say the NPC/Villain team has it. You need balance among PC's to ensure that everyone feels they are contributing equally, You don't need any such balance in an NPC team as you control them all yourself. (And besides, Villains are frequently not going to have the same point totals as your PC's anyways). The "Player Team" view? I would either A. Leave up to the players to either buy (and share if they wish) or pool (as suggested in the rules) OR B. They have a "benefactor" that provides such to the team as a whole (retired hero, government agency, wealthy sponsor). This keeps them from having to spend points on it (and in some cases can prevent them from arguing or wasting gobs of play time trying to come to a consensus on a build.) I really don't get the two build idea, unless you are talking about representing a character at two different points in his career (once where he was a team member, once where he was solo). I know as a GM I would probably NEVER allow a player to have two different "versions" of a character that he could play in the same game (nor would I allow a Multiform to simulate something like this). Now, I don't know if you were advocating that or not, just saying what I would do in this situation.
  21. Re: Irreducible attacks I would also say this Spoon, take a look at the vampire writeup as a whole, what do their NON-DR defenses look like? are they REALLY that resistant to damage? I don't have the supplement personally, but if they have REALLY low PD/ED (resistant or otherwise) then DR is just working to give them normal defenses... and i could see a designer building a monster like that because of the different way it works (PD/ED subtract from damage, they are incredibly effective against weak attacks, less effective against powerful attacks. DR is equally effective against ANY level of attack.) IMHO DR is a great defense idea for several monster types (esp undead) because then you don't give them any "armor" per se (they don't wear body armor and their skin is just as easy to puncture as a normal humans would be) but they just seem to be less affected by any damage they take.
  22. Re: Gods with Off Switches vs. Loaded Guns. DC vs. Marvel in Character Design. Sounds more like a summon to me
  23. Re: Question: Can you give Limitations on a Perk? All these wonderful questions, one, simple little 3 word answer: "With Gm's Permission"
  24. Re: Resistant mental defense? Actually, 6e1 247 states that DOES BODY for mental blast does not make it killing damage, so you DO NOT need resistant Mental Defense to defend against them. And evidently they changed that, BOECV is now ACV, and in and of itself that does not change the type of defenses your attacks are applied to (Normal Attacks targeted with OMCV still affect PD/ED. AVAD is needed to change the defense.) And guys, not trying to be a jerk, point fingers, or be superior, just trying to stop the spread of any misinformation. To Whit: All the info i have provided is for 6e, things worked differently in prev editions.
  25. Re: Attractiveness - Comeliness Vs. Striking Appearance From 6e1 447: So basically, it does exactly what com used to do, function as a limited form of PRE.... at a SLIGHTLY elevated cost. (1/2 point more expensive, and you dont get any for free) and you can adjust talents with gm's permission.
