  1. Re: Cool Guns for your Games A Saiga. =) There isn't really a commercially available semi-auto shotgun w/ box magazines that I'm aware of, though there are several conversions of regular shotguns into box magazine feeds. Most of those are pump action. However, Knoxx used to make a drum mag conversion for Mossberg 590s, if I recall correctly. Also a pump, though. THere's a video out there of an AR-looking autoshotgun that was featured on future weapons as well, I believe, but it hasn't been commercially released as far as I know. Personally, it looked gimpy to me, but the idea is a good one, in my opinion. As a whole, though, we americans seem to prefer the stacked tube design. I'm mostly a pump shotgun kind of guy, personally.
  2. Re: Cool Guns for your Games http://www.saiga-12.com/ Saiga shotgun, based off of the Kalashnikov action and often converted into one by gunsmiths on this side. It has box magazines and AK controls. From what I hear, the accuracy isn't exactly stellar and ergonomics are AK so not real great, but otherwise a pretty darn neat piece of hardware.
  3. Re: Zombie Horror Survivor (Left4Dead)? I think the only problem with the .22 LR is possibly penetration if you're using the headshot zombies. Then again, in a game, that hardly ever comes into play. =) Honestly, I can't say I'm real up on .22 LR ballistics, as the only penetration I ever need is through paper or perhaps some cans or bottles. =)
  4. Re: Super hero one liners Lessee if I can remember some... From Bricks/Tanks: "Wait... wait... yes, I think I felt that." "Oh my gosh! I'm gonna miss breakfast!" "If you keep insulting me like that, I'm gonna tell my mom." From Blasters: "...says the soon-to-be greasy smear." "Huh? What were you saying? I wasn't paying attention." "Do you always get this close, or are you about to ask me to marry you?"
  5. Re: Mecha Miniatures... Heavy Gear/Jovian/Battletech in one scale... to go with miniatures that might fit in with regular (25mm/28mm) miniatures, depending on how big you want them, you can also check out Infinity, AT-43, and Urban Mammoth. I'm sure there are more, but these are in the 28mm scale and have various shooting and otherwise miniatures. They're not as huge as a mecha would be to a human, but they're pretty sizeable and nice to use in conjunction with human sized miniatures. I've been using some for power armor characters and some as warbots and the like for my sci-fi games. I was going to post some pics, but the websites have so far been resisting my efforts to post their images or take them. I keep getting .asp files and the like.

  7. Re: Genre Conventions & Values I'm still a fan of the whole cyber thing. I still love my Cyberpunk 2020 and even Shadowrun games. Just my thing... As far as genre conventions go, I pretty much consider Dark Champions as another reference book amongst many for the variety of types of games I like to run and play in. I use it because it has a lot of references to heroes more based on skills and equipment than powers or magic. In essence, I use it for games where the characters are more mundane. Like all things Hero, its about making what you want and being given the tools. I don't really worry about genre conventions and all of that. I play what I want to play, that's what Hero is for. Book names and genres and all that can hang. I mix amongst the various books so much, it doesn't even matter. We've used the Dark Champions book to play games involving minor powers and monsters, gun-kata/Gun-Fu action drama, street level superpowered heroes, cyberpunk style games, and many others. I don't really subscribe to any one theory or style, I steal from them all, shamelessly, and just try to have a little fun along the way. i guess I can't really contribute too well to this discussion. Sorry to ramble on.
  8. Re: Poison's Champions Art Thread I already told poison this directly, and repped him, but I should like to add to the mini thing. I like that they're not overly fancified. I know that's not really a word, probably, and I'm kind of pulling a Jesse Jackson here, but you see too many armies that are just made overly elaborate or busy for no good reason. I like that there are light and shadow and even color transitions that appear pretty natural despite the small scale. I like the simple highlight scheme and the lack of extras. The wood elves always struck me as a nice, clean army, and its been painted as such. Maybe not anymore, the new minis look pretty busy, but still... its a nice playing army with a solid color scheme.
  9. Re: Zombie Horror Survivor (Left4Dead)? a good reference is also All Flesh Must be Eaten. Lots of good info. in there.
  10. Re: Poison's Champions Art Thread How about just paint... could always scan them afterwards.
  11. Re: Superhero Images Sounds hilarious, actually. =)
  12. Re: Poison's Champions Art Thread Sweet. I shudder to ask what Gambit looks like now...
  13. Re: Cool Guns for your Games .... the compressed spice birdshot has got to be one of the best ideas, ever. Spice it and shoot it all in one easy step. That is awesome. Gonna rep you if it lets me.
  14. Re: Cool Guns for your Games So noted. I heard that was the issue with the M9 pistol function issues, as the magazines were a second party product that had terrible finishes that tended to form cracks and such, thus retarding the magazine spring from being able to function correctly. I'm hoping that was corrected, if that story is true. Y'know, amongst other things. =)
  15. Re: Poison's Champions Art Thread What's a Dwyer VLE? Anita Blake books go from supernatural adventure to pornography. The first 5 or 6 are actually interesting, perhaps a few further, and then they turn into mostly porn with a tiny bit of story to it. Disappointing, as I enjoyed all the vampire slayings, werewolf smashing, zombies, and otherwise. From there, its a parade of ever increasing girth and length in macabre detail until your brain explodes. All good for those who want that, but not exactly what drew me into the series to start. *sigh*
  16. Re: Cool Guns for your Games I also understand this, which is why I'd be an advocate of the electronic earplug that kill all noise above X decibels and allow you to hear everything else. Thus, in a case like mine, I can still hear range commands and regular speech just fine, but all the actual shooting is cancelled out. They're pretty neat, and pretty cheap to boot. Surefire even offers some that skip the electronics and just fit inside the ear. Surefire EarPro Sonic Defenders I'd think (since I've never been there) that these would also be useful in a military duty situation.
  17. Re: Cool Guns for your Games We get that where I work a lot, too. I think it does enough to dampen it to a point and some people really have issues with jamming things in their ear canal. Oddly enough, they don't use earplugs while on the field from my understanding. All that electronic gear and they can't use the electronic earmuff things? I mean, you can buy them really tiny like a hearing aid. =)
  18. Re: Storn Art from idea to Full Picture Year 6 Nice to see a couple of my old ideas still in the queue. You had mentioned something about Monster as Hero, so I have an idea. I've always liked the smart Hulk thing for the simple reason of the dichotomy of nature versus nurture in a sense. Then there's always the breaking of stereotype that's been done before, but having a monstrously powerful looking being depending mostly on intellect to win the day is a nice duality, I think. So in that regard, let me suggest a similar sort of image, with some elements to make it more original. I'm thinking of something more in earth tones, a large brutish fellow or perhaps lady with what looks to be large bone plates in angular array distributed about the body in protective locations similar to a sort of plated armor. Rather than being the broad and obviously protective plates, something that is more like artistic or even aesthetic arrangement as to make it also seem like jewelry. This figure might be sitting slouched sideways, book held low in one hand, with its eyes looking askance at it from behind a set of small glasses/visors that seem to have some technological enhancement. In its off-hand, held just above shoulder level, are formations of constructs being formed together as if manipulating an autocad type of model via hand manipulation. He/she would be wearing something simple and complicated simultaneously, a combination of form and function, in that heavy work pants and work boots combine with an integrated personal computer that is functionally distributed about the body to be able to have information easily accessible and manipulative in a more intuitive manner. A sly smile and raised eyebrows would probably complete it pretty well. Just an idea. I realize I have crackpot ones often, so feel free to ignore. =)
  19. Re: Cool Guns for your Games Ah, the FN-FAL... never seems to go away. =) I like their upper or whatever you call that chunk that holds the action in it with the top rail. Seems to be the new "thing" for FN-FALs nowadays with all them fancy schmancy electronic sights and such nowadays. =) Then again, today's tendencies seem to fall towards the whole "MORE RAILS! MORE RAILS!" direction.
  20. Re: Cool Guns for your Games I really loved Cyberpunk... *sigh* I never really got the whole "rocker" thing that much, but still, it was an interesting touch. I just liked the environment and the genre.
  21. Re: Cool Guns for your Games Hehe. For this, I present the .600 Nitro Express Revolver (I believe previously pictured):
