1. Re: Falling Asleep While On Watch Hee hee... that's how my grandpa always got away with sleeping in church.
2. Re: Falling Asleep While On Watch Yes, yes... I did entertain this at first as well. And it is probably the proper answer in 'game terms' however we all know that the more you are willing to stay awake the more likely you'll find yourself drifting off. Factors such as stimulants, fear, sorrow and anticipation seem to work better than the sheer will to remain awake. In 'game terms' that equals anything that elevates the blood pressure, which to me speaks more CON than EGO, but even CON isn't quite there. In game terms, normal END doesn't wax and wane with drowziness, but maybe there's an LTE-like effect that can be used in cases like this. Just not 'LTE' but an 'Awareness' mechanic. So I agree with EGO at face value but intuition tells me that there may be a better answer.
3. How would you do it? Would an END-check (9+END/5) be appropriate (Heroic level games)? I don't like the CON idea as much but that might be the closest stat to it, especially since END is CON based. What about a -1 per hour barring having the Lightsleep Talent?
4. Re: Alien Wars: DropZone PBP I'm finally getting around to gauging interest in this project. If you want to enlist then head over to Herocentral, look up the thread in the Community Board and chime in. Or PM me. The fate of the Galaxy hangs in the balance! Enlist Today!

6. Hey Herophiles I have been thinking for a while now about how to help players enrich their character concepts from the start of a new campaign (or if they are new players, from from their first character concept). What I've concluded is the following checklist towards character creation: Submit a character concept in writing, one paragraph on loose history, one on character specialization, and one on quirks and personality Create a character based on ONLY 75 points. No disadvantages yet other than Normal Character Maxima (I play only Heroic level games at this point). Flesh out the character with 5-15 points worth of Disadvantages to represent 'non-adventuring' limitations (Psych Lims, Phys Lims, Soc Lims) possessed from birth or at least from youth. Insert the character into a 'solo mini-adventure' which defines the moment when the character decides to stray away from the 'workman's life'. This could be the origin of a rivalry, a debt, trouble at home, a dangerous situation, an invitation to join a guild or a gang, etc. Allow the player to spend the 5-15 extra points previously gained in Disadvantages to flesh out the character based on the initial encounter. These points should particularly go into skills and abilities based on any Package Deal with some restrictions on KS's, Combat Levels, etc. that can only come with time and training. Advance the character artificially in time by spinning a story arc of where the player wants to go from that initial one-shot. Allow the player to build from that initial point distribution logically. For example, one can't easily jump from a 12 INT to an 18 INT unless there is some really good justification. One cannot naturally believe that a Power Roll: Magic can increase from a 14- to a 20- in only two years without the character disappearing and training intensely for that time frame... and that leads to other build choices based on where he trained and how, as an example. Sure it may take a bit longer to form the character, but the details of the concept should be a lot more intimate to the player and the GM as well. Even point distribution should be better appreciated. This is just my immediate thoughts, what are your experiences with this kind of thing? Thanks!

8. Re: Alien Wars: DropZone PBP These actually bring it all into a very good direction. I really like this concept. Kudos to you (and Spence for switching the light on). Thanks to everyone else, too, for the ideas. Rep also goes to Curufea for the flick suggestions!
9. I'd love to see this [Warning, song lyrics NSFW but the video should be just fine unless one doesn't like the depictions of detonating nukes]: pared down to about 30 seconds of prime footage and a dissolve in of the text, "Post-Apocalyptic Hero... THE END IS NEAR!" at the very end. Then a second hold, fade to black and the green-on-black HERO logo fading in, holding a second and fading out with the sound of a nuclear explosion. I can make it happen for a few $100Ks, mostly to buy the rights to the song from SYL.
10. Re: Alien Wars: DropZone PBP No I haven't but I'm going to add it to my Netflix queue asap! Thanks!
11. Re: Alien Wars: DropZone PBP THANK YOU! If I ever have another child I'm naming it 'Captain Obvious' after you... The elusive name of that movie has been grinding me all day. WWI... yes, I recall it now. Rep for thee and thine own! [D'oh! That is once I'm free to give you Rep again. Stop being so good at answering my questions darn you!]
12. Re: Alien Wars: DropZone PBP Threadus Ressurecti! Hey y'all I'm doing more prep work for my Alien Wars campaign and looking for a more 'military survival horror' feel. I've been watching movies especially. So far I have the following film in my genre list: Aliens (the definitive genre film) Starship Troopers (I know... I know... don't hate me) Day of the Dead Dog Soldiers Reign of Fire (saving more for my Post-Apoc game once PAH comes out) The Hills Have Eyes 2 Here's one that I just can't remember the name of, I saw it On Demand about two months ago and it was an obscure movie but actually pretty good. It's got 'watch' or 'patrol' in it's name and it's about a platoon of WWII soldiers that happen upon an entrenched camp of German soldiers, when they demand that the Germans surrender the Germans warn them to stay out of the trench. Obviously the US soldiers don't and it turns out that there's a supernatural presence there that will not let them escape. No famous actors (by my limited knowledge) were in it. There was a force that was creating paranoia throughout the squad, a few scenes underground where the green rookie saw his 'ghost self' among the other soldiers that had already died, and a barbwire scene... any help you can provide would be appreciated. I've exhausted my Netflix search for this one. Anyway, if you can think of any others I'd appreciate it. Thanks! Any other suggestions for the 'military survival horror' genre?
13. Re: A Dummy's Guide to the Turakian Age ...oh and I second this request! Ron "begging the talented Mr. Curtis" Miller
14. Re: A Dummy's Guide to the Turakian Age Sorry I didn't see this earlier. That didn't seem to work when I uploaded it. It uploaded fine but then there were trouples re-opening it (hit or miss based on who you ask). I had a separate thread for the update of the Almanac. It's got some more stuff on it but is far from complete. IM me with your email addy if you want me to send you a copy (free and safe).
15. Re: I have a setting, but not an adventure!
16. Re: Zombies: Real World Campaign Oh there's many ways around this. You can: 1. Allow the zombies to 'climb' or just let them pile up and eventually a few will get high enough to get to them. If they're on the roof, the zombies will see them and if they see them/detect them they shalt gather. 2. Let there be a gas-main leak and eventually the block will go up in flames including the house the heroes are on. 3. Let weather prohibit this (thunderstorm, icestorm, windstorm) 4. Let food supplies be an issue. 5. Throw in an NPC who cannot climb (child, elderly, hurt, stricken with a disease, etc.) to 'slow them down'. 6. Give the zombies rocks to throw or guns to shoot... Etc. Don't forget to apply the 'Swarm' tactics of the Zombie Horde. You don't have to use 100 individual zombies in terms of game mechanics, you can use a 'Zombie Horde' write-up and even give them a bit of a 'group mind' like a hive mentality. That way you can use big Area Effects to sweep over the PCs or chase them down even faster than they'd like to be...
17. Re: Post-Apocalyptic Hero -- What Do *You* Want To See? Right on! Very cool.
18. Re: [Free Stuff] Dead No More (Zombies!) I found my Survival Horror Package Deal that went with Dead No More. It worked well for the (very short term) game that I ran. This template is more-or-less for those who have survived for a little while in the new zombie-world, it reflects a new mental state and physiological adjustments to a constant threat. Enjoy!
19. Re: I think I found my new Truck Hey, tell that woman to move I want to see that beauty!
20. Re: Zombies: Real World Campaign Look at it this way, now you can get extra points by taking the Age (40+) Disadvantage More points to spend on your Follower: Palindromedary I guess (or is a KS? call him 'Skasiro')!
21. Here's another project that I started but lost interest in. Maybe someone else can use it in part or in whole: Enjoy!
22. Here's a little Halloween PbP that I played with some other zombie-fans one October (4th Edition, but the plot elements are salvagable). It didn't get too far, but it was fun while it lasted. Enjoy!
23. Sigh. I think it's time to share the madness that was my best PbP game ever. Here is the original campaign using the Wasteland Hero rules... or the parts that I documented anyway. ...just in time for PAH, too. Hope you enjoy it as much as we did. Here's the 'Prologue' portion that me and my first player (Cory if you're out there gimme a holla!) went through using mostly IMing. It has more Wasteland Hero flavor and it's free! Now I'll see if I can find anything else I have from the old (4th Edition) Wasteland Hero dayz. I think 'Outlaw Alliance' is here somewhere...
24. Hey everyone I'm cleaning out my hard-drive and I found these notes. If you like 'em, use 'em... if you don't then don't. Simple, no? I can give you more background for the campaign it was used in if you want. It was a fun little adventure. Let me warn you now, there are a lot of references to the 4th Edition Cyber Hero in this document but I don't think that there's so much that it's prohibitive to anyone who doesn't own that book. I'm sure I'll find more crud to unload from various HERO genres. Enjoy! Oh, and here are the Psicorps Team Write-Ups (4th Edition, we were rebelling against Fuzion in those days).
