  1. Re: Six! ...can't hold her for much longer, she's squirming to get something else done! Hurry up so I can get my smootch!
  2. Re: Seven! As Sealab's Capt. Murphy said... "Let her rip! I'm alll braced!" RIP Harry Goz
  3. Re: Eight! What happened to 7??? I'm finding someone to smootch when you get to 1000!
  4. Re: PBEM ad: "After the Burn..." (Post Apocolypse Hero) I'm in! ronald_miller@hotmail.com Where do I send my PC idea and what exactly are you looking for besides what was already provided? Mutants? Psionics? Anthromophics?
  5. Re: Help! I need a gnome! Praise to thee O Ever-Surfing One!
  6. I've been looking for a 30x30 bitmap of a gnome character that doesn't look, well, queer. I've found lawn gnomes and mushroom-sitting gnomes and fishing gnomes, but no adventure-level gnomes. I really like the one who is in the Races section of the Turakian Age (book isn't with me so forgive me if I'm wrong) with the short, wide beard. Any help would be appreciated.
  7. Re: Crazy idea for a magic "system". KA How does this system not seem like 'superpowers' to you? The redundancy of power is truly taboo in Superheroic level games since everyone is striving for a gimmick by the definition of the genre. I think that the truly *special* magic systems are the ones that succeed in letting the players in on the history of the magic. Ancient Lore goes pretty far by my standards to maintain and define a good magic system. A more personal magic system might incorporate 'words of power' or 'runes' to make these more personal if need be. Also a lot of the cool stuff about magic is in the actual write up. Sure someone can cast a flame bolt, but what if Drakemyre's flame bolt has the faces of multiple fire elementals writhing around within it. These are things that can add flare without graying out options in what should be a nearly limitless genre for powers. Just my opinion.
  8. Re: The Non-Wandering Adventurer Well its not a matter of lack of imagination, but role players often expect to wander around finding danger. Sure there must be psychological challenges in this kind of game, and political tensions will be far superior to the dungeon-trap kind of tension... so much the better but it does take a special kind of player to be fully engaged in this kind of game for very long. And keyes_bill, you are absolutely right about designing loose template package deals expressing a survival type (that's the king's hand picked explorer types)... additionally that fifth-wheel politician will be a necessity because where roving bands of orcs may not be the norm, native orcs who encroach their hunting boundries onto the king's property will have to be dealt with diplomatically... unless the group wants an entire tribe of settled orcan warriors up in their grill every time they cross country (which will probably happen eventually unless the first encounter is a treaty-making one). Thanks for your suggestions, everyone. This may actually take flight now that you have me really thinking about it.
  9. I've been toying with the idea of having a hand-picked group of the king's best explorer types set out with the intentions of taming the wilds in his newly acquired lands... This would make a campaign in itself, but it wouldn't be very appealing to the mysterious-stranger type of characters that so many want to play. It would emphasize the heck out of that AK: 'Homeland' and there will be a lot of justification for following up on some of that local lore... but then new threats could arise from diverse places and such. Does anyone have any experience with a 'Homebody' kind of campaign or will it run low on interest quickly by just having the players hang out waiting for something to happen? Of course there will be the odd-hand opportunity to 'bring the fight to the threat' but that will have to be the exception. So basically it's street level fantasy. Any input?
  10. Re: The Zombie Game Please don't miss the Fulchi "Zombie" films and 'Dead Alive' by Peter (LOTR) Jackman. Sorry if these were brought up already.
  11. Re: Haymaker or mere Push? It's bending my mind into a pretzel... and these pretzels are making me thirsty. Darned semantics.
  12. Re: Haymaker or mere Push? Exactly! I just can't wrap my mind around it. Ok, good words. Let me think more about it. Thanks, bro.
  13. Re: Haymaker or mere Push? Well its not so much 'the name' as it is the extra 2DC gained from what is more or less supposed to be from a Momentum mechanic... see my quandry? I am looking at it more like a 0" Move By adder which justifies the hit to both DCV and the OCV roll.
  14. I'm in discussions with a player on this one and he's brought up some good justification for his case so I'm bringing up the issue here. What are your thoughts on using a 'Haymaker' move vs. an entangle? I say that Haymakers need room to be effective, and Entangles were created to cancel out such room. Haymakers, in my mind, involve momentum. However a 'Push' could be the still be gained in such cases where that momentum cannot be obtained (that part isn't under argument btw). Although the rules say that Haymakers can be used for any attack I have to reply and say that this doesn't really sound right. Forgive me, but I don't have FREd here to tell you the page number (it's around pg. 255 or so). In the few examples given either Pushing the attack (EB, etc) or bonuses to the shot's roll ('carefully placed shot') is the answer... not a 'Haymaker'. Teach me, O Wise Ones of the board.
  15. Re: So, why is longevity so expensive? I would think that the bigger problem is taking an Ancient as a 'newbie PC' built under the same constraints as, say, a twenty-something hero. But that's all semantics I guess.
  16. Re: Skills to represent a forensic scientist Forensic Science Professionals often have police powers (except lab techs) and can carry a gun, etc. Plus the higher they go on the totem pole, the more time they spend testifying as an expert witness. I wouldn't say that Oratory is a must-have, but its something to consider. Also a lot of what they do involves Interrogation but also much more subtle Conversation skills along with Persuasion and Seduction. Bulk up on those PRE skills because Forensic Scientist who do field work are often involved in interviewing witnesses, victims and perps. Oh ya, and don't forget NightVision because the TV Forensic Scientists almost exclusively work in the dark... dark alleys, dark houses, dark labs. I'm not sure why that is, but if I worked in my lab in the dark I'd be hospitalized fairly regularly.
  17. Re: martial Arts Comedies Kung Pow, Enter the Fist. It's the difinitive martial arts comedy IMHO. Kill Bill has some pretty tongue in cheek humor in it as well.
  18. Re: Superleap-Superpause Didn't Marrina from Alpha Flight have that power? Like a water spout leap that sent her miles inland? It may just be my poor memory...
  19. Re: Superleap-Superpause KA I think that there is actually a good example of this in the Hulk movie. If you watch his superleaps, he looks like he's making adjustments just like you mention.
  20. Re: Superleap-Superpause While we're on the subject, if a 'mega-superleaper' got pushed off of the Empire State Building would he have to take damage? Talk about experience with re-orienting yourself to prepare for the landing... Last time I asked this question it was met with remarkable hostility for some reason.
  21. Re: Eclipse Power Would it be easier to affect the sun, the general area or the individuals looking at it? It would take a heck of alot of TK to move the moon past the sun. I think that's out (I hope, unless you've got a 1000-pt character). Darkness definately defines the effect you're looking at, you just don't have to buy it so that the effect sweeps all sight senses. Over a large area would be expensive, but with a limited duration you could start to approach cost-effectiveness. Try the 'Gradual' limitaion (I don't know if that would cover Darkness or not). Change Environment, Affects entire Hemisphere? Also expensive as all get out. Change Environment, Line of Sight? Expensive, but getting there. It would give you modifiers to sight, etc but not complete darkness. Images, to make onlookers 'believe' they are seeing things? You might be getting your effect with cost-effectiveness. Those are some thoughts. Reverse engineer it from the effect to the cause.
