  1. Your character has been asked by a teammate or friend what sort of funeral arrangements they want, should the worst occur. "But I'm immortal." "Just in case, okay?" So, what sort of sendoff would your character like to have (and what's likely to happen instead?)
  2. Re: Name for a fictional city If they were British, I'd suggest Dunroming.
  3. Re: When I Am the Benevolent Ruler.... I will not commission clothing made from a fabric I cannot see. Naturally, I am under no obligation to mention its invisibility as the cause. "Wrong color" will suffice.
  4. Re: Early "What do you want to see?" for Teen Champions Another cartoon worth looking at is Xiaolin Showdown, which has four martial artists in their early teens searching the world for mystic artifacts. Their primary opposition during the first season was a teen gadgeteer (aided by a permanently desolid sorceress.)
  5. Re: Wedding Bells Are Ringing! Talion's invitation got lost in the mail (at least that's the official story), so he'll just send a card.
  6. Re: Early "What do you want to see?" for Teen Champions As to power levels, the Venture Institute campaign I'm running is 50+70. It might not seem like a lot, but at least one character has shown the potential for one-punch kills of normals.
  7. Re: Is a politician a good secret ID? Villains interested in long-term plans might do better to be on the politician's staff, that way if the front guy gets unelected, the villain can just get a job with another politician who's in office.
  8. Re: When I Am the Benevolent Ruler.... If a mad scientist shows me plans for clearly unworkable or useless devices (other than doomsday devices or ultimate weapons), I will not laugh at him or exile him from the land. I will first attempt to cozen him into turning his talents towards research that could actually benefit our country, and if that fails, arrange for him to meet private investors and let them take the onus of turning him down.
  9. Re: Golden Age Villains needed Actually, before the War gets going full blast, you can use British and French agents as opponents (though they should be more "noble" baddies.)
  10. Re: WWYCD #122 (or so): Strange Visitor So, how many folks would feel compelled to try to interfere with history when visiting the Mask of Justice?
  11. Re: Shoubu Da! (quien es mas macho!?) Utena Tenjou, the Revolutionary Girl?
  12. Re: When I Am the Benevolent Ruler.... If I am aware that my preferred heir is unacceptable to my subjects for some stupid reason (such as being born female in a country that allows only male rulers), I will do my best to ensure the person who actually takes the throne will be an acceptable substitute by my standards, and/or trained to take the advice of the more sensible heir. (Sadly, it turns out that some of the few laws the ruler cannot change to fit his preference in most monarchies is that dealing with who's eligible to succeed to the throne. So that route's out.) If I feel compelled to disguise myself as one of the common people to get a better idea of the conditions in my country, I will make sure at least two people who are not in the same chain of command, and are not my evil vizier, know where I'm going. Also, I will take along a competent bodyguard who knows when to stop calling me "Sire."
  13. Re: When I Am the Benevolent Ruler.... The three impossible tasks I set for my daughter's suitors will actually have something to do with qualities necessary in a future Benevolent Ruler. (Though admittedly the ability to do the impossible is a potent qualification all by itself.)
  14. Re: X-Men Continuity Question (shudder) concering Emma Frost. She died. Again. In one possible future, she does not come back for many decades.
  15. Re: When I Am the Benevolent Ruler.... However, the Benevolent Ruler should kill in such a way as not to have people confuse him with the Evil Overlord. It's a difficult line to walk, but an important one. Back to the list.... I will avoid producing extra-marital offspring. Yes, my needs are important, and a "spare" *might* come in handy, but 99% of the time bastards just cause trouble. It is only proper that my standard of living is better than that of my subjects. Indeed, my subjects *expect* that of their ruler. However, I will never mistake my personal prosperity for that of the general populace and drive them into destitution. Firmly disciplined peasants=good. Oppressed peasants=bad. If the god of my country is not only demonstratably real, but has taken a close personal interest in my career, I will not tick Him off by pulling stupid stunts I darn well know are against His rules. My weaselly workarounds and excuses are *not* going to impress Him, and the country really doesn't need another bout of divine wrath. I will keep my children's feelings in mind when picking spouses for them. While political considerations are important, it won't help the planned alliance if my daughter's first reaction is to poison her new husband.
  16. Re: Okay, how do you want them to handle the OTHER Organizations?
  17. As you know, Bob, Evil Overlords have a list of things to do (or not do) should they ever be in a position of power. However, it is clear from fantasy and other escapist literature that not-so-evil leaders also sometimes do very foolish things, and could use a guide to proper behavior. Thus, this list.... When I Am the Benevolent Ruler... As a general rule, I will remember that I am not the Evil Overlord, and should not indulge in behavior that will confuse my subjects on this point. I will ensure that all my potential heirs have interesting and important jobs to do, according to their abilities, so they will have less time to plot against one another. If I do have a particular favorite among my heirs, I will go out of my way to show the others that I love them too. Even if this is not true. Being aware of the possibility of evil twins, mind control, or just having a really bad day, if the Hero suddenly starts acting out of character, I will call for a careful investigation rather than his head. I will not callously dump my old, reliable Hero for the latest flashy device, or a new "kewl" Hero. This invariably backfires, and it's so embarrassing to have to apologize to the Hero afterwards. I will remember that the word "vizier" is always preceded by the word "evil" for a reason, and plan accordingly. I will treat any flashy gift from a previously unknown wizard or inventor with the same caution I would a venomous snake. I will not be tempted by immortality. It is more important that my land be ruled well than that it be ruled by me. I will not base the distribution of my lands and property among my heirs on a flattery contest. Even if I think I'm smart enough to spot a good metaphor when I hear one. Additions? SKJAM!

  19. Re: Alternate Earth 26: It’s a Wonderful Life? Mask of Justice: The crime problem in late 1930s NYC would be even worse. Rock Bottom: Several homeless kids would have died in a chemical spill, though one of them might have gained powers instead. Venture Institute wouldn't have a success story yet, and be in more jeopardy of being closed. Calculus: As yet undetermined, though his son wouldn't have been born, and Slaughterhouse Jack might have been a less effective crimefighter. Kira Midori: Her hero team would have had a more difficult time against many of their enemies, and teenage girls would have been deprived of a sane role model. Talion: His world would now be run by the local equivalent of Takofanes, or one of the other megavillains. The hero team he worked with would have died quickly.
  20. Re: Crime and Punishment As mentioned in the "Strange Visitor" thread, Kira Midori's home timeline features "personality death" as a punishment for criminals who show that they can't be rehabilitated by the normal advanced methods. It's controversial even there, and other heroes she's mentioned it to find it very creepy.
  21. Re: What Would Your Fantasy Character Do? : Good Overlord So Tacticus is more or less a console RPG character?
  22. The nearest corrupt mayor, greedy lord or evil tyrant has suddenly started acting in a different manner. He's lowered taxes, freed political prisoners, started negotiating peace treaties and making just decisions in court cases. Naturally, the big question is, is he sincere, or is this some sort of trick to get the good guys to lower their guard? Your character (and party, if applicable) has been asked/hired/ordered to look into this situation. (Naturally, this investigation is rather more urgent if the character lives under the bad guy in question.) How does your character prepare for the investigation, and what methods does he/she/it use? 23. Re: A Thread for Random Musings My sister recently moved into a new place, and allowed her 13-y-o daughter to decorate her own sitting room (within a small budget, and with veto by mom on anything too awful.) The entire room is done in shades of red, pink and magenta. There are few rooms in my life I have felt less comfortable in, and all of those involved metal.
  24. Re: PRIMUS Supers You could mine Executive Sanction (from Allies) for PRIMUS supers. (And the Redeemed for the secret team.)
