  1. Whether Japan would have invaded Australia is debatable (and has been debated). I also can't see them invading the coast of the U S A, they simply didn't have the manpower to take the country. What IS more possible is that they would have turned West with India as the glittering prize. Possibly the U S A could have been forced to negotiate with the Axis powers had Germany got the bomb first and Japan could have kept its Asian possessions while Germany controlled Europe and Africa, leading to a cold war between a Germanic Europe and a Japanese dominated Asia, with the Americas as a neutral (and Neutered) "third power" and trading partner for the two great powers.
  2. "Saint Barbara " was an erotic model and then worked for UNICEF before gaining super powers.
  3. It is a conundrum. But then again, if Trump IS that thick, how much thicker are the people who believe his lies ?
  4. I thought that she would have made a good protaganist as well, but look at the mess they made of the solo "Catwoman" movie.
  5. The NRA running out of money ? That is the National Rifle Association that is being talked about, right ? How many members does it have ? I would guess in the millions. So how much money does it get from its members and what does it do with that money ? Seems bizarre to me. Maybe we should check the bank accounts of the NRA's executives .
  6. I think that Trump's affairs have all been with Americans, but his wife is foreign born.
  7. Saw "Antman and The Wasp" last friday. Not bad; the size changing ability was used quite well.
  8. A wolf ! Maybe its a werewolf ! "You better stay away from him. He'll rip your lungs out Jim !"
  9. Is hunting the wild Markdoc anything like hunting Snarks ? Does one need to threaten his life with a railway share or can he be charmed with smiles and soap ? The world wonders !
  10. I got some more books via the internet recently , including a" WPA Guide To New Orleans". This gives me four of these guides, New York, Washington,San Francisco and New Orleans. Interesting thing is that a previous owner of the New Orleans book has included a hand written note about "Storyville".,
  11. Sorry, double post. Many dictators and would be dictators have loved people having big rallies and having them chanting their name. I expect Trump to go in for gaudy neomilitary uniforms next. I am sure he will if he is reelected rather than impeached, try to change your constitution to make himself "President For Life"or Grand High Exalted Poobar or something.
  12. Sounds like every other would be dictator throughout history.
  13. Sounds like every other would be dictator throughout history.
  14. Just read the first three books of "The Sand Wars" by Charles Ingrid. (In one volume) . I.'d put them in the "not bad" catergory. Not the best military s f i've read. Just started "The Other Side Of Dawn" by John Marsden, the final book in the "Tomorrow, When The War Began" series.
  15. Danb ! Oh well I still have England and Belgium to barrack for.
  16. I found Ellison's work to be a bit hit and miss. Some of his best regarded stories left me a but underwhelmed, while I like some of his less well known stuff. He DID have a tendency to shoot his mouth off before engaging his brain however (if some of the remarks I have seen credited to him are correct)..
  17. You are further along with "Wild Cards" than I am. Last one I read was "Dealer's Choice", the last piece of The Rox Triad.
  18. I will have you know that our wildlife (generally) doesn't eat tourists ! (Bite, sting and poison them to death yes, but EAT , not usually !)
  19. I bow to your superior knowledge. I haven't been to Queensland in some years and was simply thinking that the area above the tropics would be hot in summer.
  20. Well Australia is out so who do I support now? One of my liked teams (Iceland) is also out so I am thinking maybe England, or Belgium or maybe Denmark.
  21. Well I could suggest Australia to you. We have basic health care (paid for by a levy on our taxes) and you can always get private cover if you wish to pay for it. Most of the country has pretty good weather (it CAN get hot in summer, especially in Queensland and the "top end). You might have to get used to our sports however, we don't really have much Ice Hockey (although we are pretty good at field hockey) and our main forms of football are rather different to American Football, but we would welcome almost any migrants from the U S A.
  22. Was trying to keep it down to five members, same as the original comic Avengers.
  23. I recently got "The Blood And Thunder Guide To Pulp Fiction" by Ed Hulse. It seems to be geared towards the collector but has some useful appendices with a list of "Notable Books About The Pulps",, "Small Press Publications Specialising In Pulp Reprints", and "Must Have Anthologies Of Pulp Fiction" (Murania press. 2013).
  24. Oh and while we are talking movie cliches I would like to recommend "The Bigger Little Book Of Hollywood movie Cliches" by the late Roger Ebert.
  25. I have to agree with this one. You would think that the hero would at least dispose of the guns ammunition, just in case the mook regains conciousness and the hero needs to come back past him .
