  1. Re: Star Wars Hero : Ready for Comment I have added a PDF version of each SW document. web.pdx.edu/~danb
  2. Re: End Reserve and alternate REC for it One thing leaps to mind. If I don't have to buy the REC for the End reserve then I would be tempted to get a reeally big reserve. Like at least 100 end because it's so cheap. What I do for my fantasy campaign is require that the REC be bought equal to the Reserve. 10 END, 10 REC, and then put limitations on the REC. I would suggest the same thing for yours. The REC has to equal the END in the reserve, and give the REC the limitations. Extra Time (1 hour), Must Meditate to Recover, and Only Recovers By Amount Meditation Roll is Made By.
  3. Re: Star Wars Hero : Ready for Comment Sorry, I only posted the link to my Word documents this time. I will post PDF versions on my site tonight.
  4. Re: Bringing up Everyman Skills I do allow it, but my players are the kind who don't abuse it. Or maybe they just haven't figured out how yet.
  5. Re: Star Wars Hero : Ready for Comment YAI (Yet Another Iteration) of Star Wars Hero. There are two big modifications here. 1. Jedi packages now have a lump sum of points for Force powers rather then specific ones. There are some suggested collections of powers divided into four categories. Standard, Guardian, Diplomat, and Seer. Each reflecting a particular focus of study. 2. There is a new document for Characters. Right now it has only has Stormtroopers, but it will include lots of generic character write-ups as well as specific characters in the future. Comments on the Stormtroopers is quite welcome.
  6. Re: Cultural Superstitions and Forgotten Practices Just heard on The Splendid Table that honey was commonly used to treat wounds. It absorbs moisture, and apparently turns into hydrogen peroxide.
  7. Re: Cultural Superstitions and Forgotten Practices I read somewhere (IOW it could be totally made up) that people used to split a tree limb and put an axe head in it so that the tree would grow around the axe head and make an axe.
  8. Re: Cultures chart - what key things should I include? I think your table is a really great idea and I intend to blatantly steal it. It does a really good job of summerizing the flavor of the culture. Especially the iconic heros and key values. I like the food stapes too. You could include some information about the culture's religion, and language. For language you could include some important words. What that culture calls itself, what that culture calls the planet or the land they live on. I would also be curious about the culture's comparitive technology. Which ones are bronze age cultures, which are more renassance level.
  9. Re: Removing the Speed Chart You could do actions they way they do in Pallidum games. 1. Characters take one action in order of initiative. You could have everyone make Dex roll for initiative. Or some other random way. 2. Once everyone has taken one action, you start over with the highest initiative. Everyone gets a number of actions equal to their speed, and once the highest speed character is done with all his actions, you roll initiative again and start a new turn. This makes a high speed even more of an advantage because if your speed is higher you get extra actions after everyone else has gone. Which is why there is a speed chart to spread extra actions out over the entire turn. To balance things you might have to allow slower characters to abort even if they've made an attack. Though that leads to being able to endless abort to defensive actions.
  10. Re: Does this look like a complete profile? I will whenever I get something solid done.
  11. Re: Combat Fatigue I take a lighter approach myself. Well, kind of. Over 1/3 taken you get a -2, over 2/3 a -4. If it is Stun the penalty affects your Per rolls to perceive anything but your immediate foe. You tend to get tunnel vision. Kind of an extension of what happens when you are at 0 to -10 stun. This could also affect just about any Intelligence based skill now that I think about it. If it is Endurance then the modifier is a penalty to your Dexterity for initiative only. Your reactions get slower. I also use the optional wound penalty rules from fantasy hero. 1/3 = -2 to most everything, 2/3 = -4.
  12. There are the topics I plan to cover for each race in my fantasy campaign(Eventually). Anything missing? Anything unneccessary? Thank you in advance. Introduction To contain some prose to place the race in the world as a whole, or some other attempt to capture the flavor of the race. Appearance About the general appearance of members of the race and perhaps modes of dress common to all, if any. How easy it is for individuals to pass for human and vice versa. Maybe a height/weight table. Demeanor A section to describe the prevalent philosophies and attitudes of the race and how they are perceived by others. Also, perhaps, information about relations with other races, specifically enemies or allies. Culture A big section which I might want to break down further. This describes how the race lives, including their religion, art, politics, literature, life ways, and technology. Basically hard and soft culture. Then discussion of various sub-cultures and special groups and castes within the race. Also includes cultural packages. Magic What kind of magics the race practices and various other related information. History A section about the history the race tells about itself as well as connections with global history. Information about key people and events. Heroes, conquests, and interactions with other races. This section will in some ways reference and support the demeanor section. Campaign Possibilities Various information and suggestions about how to use this race in your campaign. Character Possibilities Suggestions, story hooks, backgrounds, and other information about creating and playing a character of this race.
  13. Re: Turns, Segments, Phases and simulation It has taken me quite a while to get used to the speed chart too, but there are two points which are my solice. 1. Hero simulates literature not real life. 2. Think of each point of speed as one panel in a comic. Each point is just a picture of that character's total action for the round. The second being the most handy point.
  14. Re: Brainstorming a James Bond campaign Dang this sounds like fun! Afraid I can't offer much help this late at night. Nothing intellegent anyway.
  15. Re: Master List of Physical Wound Effects? Yes, I used to drive from McMinnville, which was nicer but longer. My wife runs the ticket office for Pentacle theater here in Salem, so in the end, it's easier if only one of us commutes.
  16. Re: Master List of Physical Wound Effects? If I can get my friend to write more, I will start interpreting them for Hero. PS - Howdy neighbor. I work in Portland and go to PSU.
  17. Re: Master List of Physical Wound Effects? I was thinking more like options and guidelines for the GM to decide what the effect would be for dramatic purposes, rather then roling some kind of critical. I've played enough RM for THAT novelty to wear thin.
  18. Re: Master List of Physical Wound Effects? Here is the word on blunt trauma to the head.
  19. Re: Master List of Physical Wound Effects? Ooo. One of my favorite subjects. I have a friend who wrote me a little essay about head trauma, which I can attach if your like, and we've even toyed with the idea of publishing just the sort of sourcebook you are looking for. Sort of like the ultimate skill for wounds and damage. One thing you might consider are Rolemaster critical tables. They have a wide variety of colorful woundage, but you'd have to come up with your own HS version of the damage.
  20. Re: Star Wars: Knights Of The Old Republic I thought the titles always said Episode IV because it was suppose to imitate a serial movie like the old tarzan movies.
  21. Re: Star Wars: Knights Of The Old Republic This is a big deal for my campaign, and it's one reason I use the version of Luck that allows you modify rolls. Then when a PC is facing an enemy beyond their skills the Force can step in and help them to escape, but not to win. Plus, if you do get hit, you change a hit location from the head to hand.
  22. Re: Star Wars: Knights Of The Old Republic And apparently, in episode III the entire galaxy suddenly turns against the Jedi after all those millennia for not much reason. I agree. The sociology of the Star Wars universe is inexplicable, because Star Wars is like a myth. The universe in Star Wars is like a huge German Expressionist movie set. It’s meant to reflect and express the inner conflicts of the characters. The universe is a reflection of the characters, rather then the other way around. Not to say that you couldn’t twist it around to make more sense. I’ve tried, but really, how in the world do you control a galaxy wide empire anyway?
  23. Re: Traps, Tricks, and Treasures - what should go in it I love random tables. While you're borrowing material, you might get ICE's Castles and Ruins. Especially the ruins part. I once randomly generated a Lich bard who lived at the bottom of a broken pit trap where he feriously gaurded his horde of 3 tin coins. No kidding. Seriously though, I'm thinking this sounds like a pretty cool body of information to have. Everything you ever wanted to know about being underground.
