  1. Re: SCUBA Tank Info? D'oh. yeah I shoulda thought that through. Chalk it upto sleep deprivation.
  2. Re: SCUBA Tank Info? well underwater tanks are heavy as heck. The difference between Firemans tank and a divers tank is the diver's has to handle additional atmospheres of pressure as you go deeper. So the walls, I assume, would be thicker than a firemans tank. Also the added pressure limits the breathing time. 45lbs tank at 10' underwater vs a 45 tank at 100' underwater. You are going to get more air time at 10 feet. I don't know what you will be using them for but they make little tanks for surface divers. So if your game is dealing with low-depth, swim a sunken tunnel type stuff you could get away with a very light tank. 10 lbs maybe for an hour. But you have to hold it to your mouth. I have no experience with the fireman set-up but my whole family dives. I think that a firemans tank is pure oxygen, similar to people who smoked too much. While a diver's tank is compressed air. nitrogen and oxygen mixed. So you'll get a variance between the two that way. Not sure though Eosin?
  3. Re: PBEM - RDU: The Mavericks - Example & Discussion Woo hoo. Mass ninja beat down!
  4. Re: Roll the dice once - worth anything? I don't even think it needs a game mechanic. as long as it is done the same way each time. Definately not worth character points. Just different styles of play.

Re: My Avatar Who did do the picture of Keiko's dad? And do you know if he/she does requests?
  6. Re: How do you Ignore Armor? Well I think an indirect attack is what you want. AVLD is also good. If you are worried about the cost you could add the lim: Only vs. Targets wearing metal armor. Another route would be giving it piercing so the target needs hardened armor. But that will be expensive also. As for AVLD being to costly though, it is pretty powerful. If this spell is up there in DC's it could really mess with people. Any attack that prevents the use of defenses is going to be both effective and expensive.
  7. Re: OIHID and Multiform so if I had to put on a costume before using Muliform it would work. But since Multiform "is" the costume change I can't. Different "forms" wouldn't be really different characters. The same character just with different powers. I could use a VPP for the same effect but I just see it cleaner using multiform. Maybe I'll just add extra time to the multiform. Give's him time to mentally prepare himself.
  8. Re: PBEM - RDU: The Mavericks - Example & Discussion hmmm, a couple of posts ago you mentioned bringing Cowboy in with the rest of the group. As far as mass E-mails are concerned. From the reading though it looks like Eric/Cowboy was still far from the action. Any reason you brought him in early? Trying to save time when he is in. No "What did I miss" type questions later on. Or something else. Still a great read though. I like the description and the back and forth when Cowboy is realizing things are wrong. Each one is rationalized. The horseback cop is a historical parade. etc. Very cool. The showdown between DM and the un-named suit guy brought back some memories. About trying to talk/act your way out of a VERY sucky situation. Damien never had to deal with that. Good stuff keep it up. Out of curiosity, how far along would you say this story is? Halfway? farther? Best guess.
  9. Ok, if you put only in hero Identity on a group of powers. All those powers are off until the character "powers up" I am making a mentalist who specializes in metabolic Psionics. He aids himself by boosting his stats and such. I was thinking about a VPP but I think it would be cleaner to just define 2 or three power sets he commonly uses and do it as a multiform. The forms would be the "powered up versions" Can I put OIHID on the true forms multiform? I think it should work but I have this nagging feeling I'm cheesing something. Can I get a ruling form the board elite? Thanks.
  10. Re: Good D&D style setting to use to bootstrap? I would have to go with Kingdoms of Kalmaar from KenzercoGames. Lot's of intrigue but not as well known as some of the others. Thus you can suit it to your needs without players throwing a fit.
  11. Re: Spider Man Clone Having never heard of Spider woman I have no worries totally stealing the idea.
  12. Re: Spider Man Clone ohh I like that. the personality could be a diametric opposite. A calm monk-like persona as opposed to the wise-cracking Spidey. Plus the added mental powers make him more diversified. Thanks man
  13. OK we've all seen Superman clones and Batman clones a plenty. Nothing wrong with them just a lot of them. I'm trying to create a Spidey clone but with a new SFX. Swinging, clinging, leaping, entangles, danger sense and of course a ridiculous DEX. I having trouble thinking of an over-arching concept that could encompass all these things. I've kicked around kinetic ropes, or high cyber but it seems to clunky. Spidey is streamlined. High tech is not a problem but I would like most of the powers to be without a focus. I'm not looking for stats or anything just a couple of ideas for the overall SFX. I want to clone the power set of the webslinger not the Character. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks
  14. Re: Let your geek show! (or Science for RPGs) hey lay off the MI jokes Mr. Pennsylvania. Some of us like having all 4 seasons in an afternoon
  15. Re: Have cool idea, need powers to match it... Are you talking about a disadvantage with allergic to color? Or Harnessing a color allergy for the bettermant of man-kind. The former seems easy enough. The latter I see a special visor of some kind. Simliar to what Cyclops has to filter out the color. Maybe some UV or IR perception. Straight-up powers could be an illusionist. Might work better for a villian. Or a mentalist. His inabliity to function in a colorized world made him turn in-ward into a mentalist. Of course you could go corny and have him animate old movies to fight for him. But that only works in a certain campagin
  16. Re: Terra Fey Well I think, preperation wise, your ok. You have stats ready for what "you" want the players to do, but aren't afraid to go with what the players want to do. Good improv skills help. If you want to make improv easier on you, have a good basis of knowledge about the world you game in. Be able to reference fairy tales and mix your world in with the PC's. But if you want the best advice for a new gm "Never let the players know when they have deviated from 'your' plan. Everything they do, you expected." It gives the players confidence in the game/you and they are less likely to snip at things. "Well last night was a bust since we didn't do what Ms. Rose wanted us to do." Even the friendliest groups complain once in a while. but it sounds like you should be good to go. Just keep with it.
  17. Re: Storn's Art & Characters thread. With all these commissions Storn needs a "Now Serving" number on his webiste. Want a comission? Take a number and wait until Storn draws his way out from underneath pile of commisions he's working on.
  18. Re: PBEM - RDU: The Mavericks - Example & Discussion Just more Praise. It really seems easier to have a seperated party in an E-mail situation than FtF. I have to remember to harp on Storn for his "I can't believe I'm looking for secret Doors" comment. Keep 'em coming.
  19. Re: Aikido as a Damage Shield/ Abortable Attacks? Well I've got 2 hours to kill I wish I could check the Hero Boards. -spies public computer lab- SCORE! Anyway, I have no problem with total rebuilds. And I understand where RDU Neil is coming from. Would an activation roll serve as a balancing factor? You wouldn't be able to add in the -2 per attack but at least it isn't absolute. Fox1: the only issue I have with your idea is the glass ceiling between mooks and masters. Yes this power will be heinous against mooks but it needs to have a little use vs. masters. Perhaps I didn't explain that well enough. This will be the characters only "attack" power. Unless you count missile reflection. Pys Lim:will not attack, Common/Strong I can understand the potential munchkin-ness but I guess it is something that has to be seen in play. Does one potentionaly broken power break the character if no normal powers support it? Yes this will not be a rounded character, definately a one trick pony/ genre character. Just a fun concept character/ "would this work" Anyway, back to waiting 1 hour 53 min left
  20. Re: Adventure Seeds--Title Tag "Downsizing the Dead" A powerful lich lord is trimming the fat on his army. Cutting away useless zombies and lower powered undead. Now Campaign City is over run by zombies trying to make as normal citizens. They have no master now but still strive to exist. Some good some bad. Can the citizens live in harmony with the dead? Doubt it but lets find out. "Alien Invasion" "Price of No Power" "13 hours till Midnight"
  21. Re: My Martial Arts Champions Game... I see it as a very Mortal Kombat type group. The characters rise from bottom to top, fighting more powerful and sinister villians each time. Really great rendering and use of light. My fav would be the guy on the right with the Kid-n-Play haircut. The eyes combined with the glow from his hands makes a very nice image.
  22. Re: Aikido as a Damage Shield/ Abortable Attacks? Hmmm, Thanks for all the ideas. I have a ton of ideas. But of course all great ideas only make it as far as the Gm involved. Based on what RDU Neil was saying I think using a DS for this wont be able to happen. I kinda like AmadanNaBriona's idea using everything as martial moves with triggers. How much of an advantage in a Naked Power Advantage? I just have Sidekick here with me. I could probably borrow UMA once I get back to the states but right now thats out. The three main powers for this guy to really serve as a mystic defense master would be: 1. DS or takedown trigger whatever the Gm will allow. w/ crazy levels of block 2. Missile Reflection back to attacker only. 3. De-solid only to prevent damge from AoE attacks. must be aware of attack. Kind of an improved Evasion if anyone out there plays 3rd Ed. The MA finds the "soft" spot in the explosion to minize damage.
  23. Re: Aikido as a Damage Shield/ Abortable Attacks? I figured it would be game breaking I was hoping there would be a middle ground somewhere. My only problem with the first action block , second action takedown is it's TOO clean. Any MA can do that. sure I can make him good at it but it doesn't have the same feel. The guy I'm thinking of can walk into a riot and just block/flip his way through all the thugs. Using MA moves he would have to have a huge amount of actions. I was hoping to use Damage Shield as a way to harm more then one attacker. Even with an 8 or 9 SPD you can still just use takedown on one guy at a time. I know I can't put Takedown into the DS but an AVLD DS with the armlock/ wrist twist SFX works for me. I can just outright buy that but I would like to make it a little realistic and have it require a successful block and, if possible, put a further limitation on it that it can be blocked in turn. I know DS's can't usually be blocked but if another Aikido guy comes through his skill should be useful in fighting MY Aikido guy. I don't want to go 8 or 9 SPD because then he's just another fast MA. I hope to make this guy work on just a 3 SPD. No second actions EVER. That's why I need to use the DS mechanic. But I'm not sure if I can do that. Does anything I said make sense?
  24. OK, I'm trying to create an Aikido master/ pacifist. He never hurts you, you just hurt yourself when you attack him. He's a very "one with nature, mystic, old wise one" type guy. Once again my grand ideas are limited by my fairly loose hold on HERO mechanics. Thus I turn to the boards, yet again There are a couple of effects I'm trying to replicate here. 1. The harder you attack the more the damage shield hurts. "Use their own strength against them" The SFX is turning their punch back into them or some other martial move. Obviusly wont work for ranged attacks. 2. Aikido has a lot of block into takedown moves. Is there a way to link martial moves or abort to a takedown/disarm/take-away? I see this character as a very reactive fighter. Always let's the oppenent move first. I know I can use held actions, but that only works for the first attacker. I know the potential abuse for aborting into an attack so I can understand if this is not allowed. But how about a damage shield, with the limitation only on a successful block? Then it comes back to figuring out a way to increase the DS for harder attacks. This will be the characters schtick so I don't mind investing more points than usual. I just can't think of the proper way to spend them. Thanks.
