  1. Legal? no... just kidding. How about "Princess"? Knowing nothing about her skill/power set... since we have the Princess of pop. or "Engenue"
  2. Automatic Side Effect? If take KB? Randomn flight like grenade... if hit something, take damage like move through. I dunno, that was just off the top of my head.... I'm sure others smarter than me will come up with better.
  3. I always wanted to run a Private Investigative firm, that wasn't the pulp version of the lone P.I.... but rather a group of specialists underneath a corporate PI umbrella. A freelance Pinkerton outfit. Why? Because I can run mysteries, spy, surveillance of wayward spouses, smuggling investigation, organized crime investigation, corporate security and a whole range of adventures that should keep the game fresh. Each week could be really different, yet a very solid framework for the characters to exist in. I see the firm be about 100 people, and have 3 teams of elite investigators (the PCs) working on various cases. The other 80 folk are admin, support and researchers. So it is a decent size company. The adventures would happen mostly in "civilized" space and would probably only visit 3 or 4 planets for mose of the adventures, so we get a real sense of these places. Occasionally, the "hunt the missing freighter" might take a team out to the boondoocks. PCs would have to justify expenses and maybe the company only has one spaceship, which all three teams might need at the same time... so there would be "public" travel at times. That is the sci-fi game I've always wanted to run. Terran Empires would handle that just fine, as would Star Frontiers. This idea could really be dropped into almost any sci-fi game.
  4. Hell, I'm running "Checkmate". But, Neil, since you play with me. Ya probably figured that one out. They ain't even Power Company level. Just be thankful that Im not running "Suicide Squad"... although Fury could easily fit that role! . But just to state my own preference... I like the Power Company level just fine. I would love to play in a Justice Leage level game (and I'm getting there with my Vector character), but it is a lot of work and it has such impact on the RDU. Unlike JL, which doesn't seem to have the impact on DCU that it should.
  5. Re: Re: Succubus Thats why I post 'em. I'm hoping someone might get some use outta these. Not to mention it is simply practice and experimentation, so I hope to continue in the vein of being a good rpg artist. James, you are welcome.
  6. Succubus Here is another pic that I did that fateful Saturday game. This is James character, Lily, in her Succubus form. Lily can shapeshift, but this is a form that is seperate and the other players aren't quite sure what is up with this considerably demonic form. Also, over on the Green Ronin boards, Neil has typed up the first half of that Saturday's adventure. It is pretty cool. But I'm totally biased. It is under Storn's Character thread. I'll be posting Succubus over there too. http://www.greenronin.com/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?p=23958#23958
  7. Demon Star This was a pencil drawing done at Saturday's gaming table. It is Eric's character, who hasn't had a ton of "air time' compared to his other characters. But he's a great character. I'll let Eric tell you about him. Yes, I didn't ink it. The paper that I sketch on is not good enough quality to accept brush and/or quill... so this is another digital coloring over pencils. hey, I like the style. Your mileage may vary.
  8. If she ever gets a write-up in a published book, maybe. She has a full-length, head to toe, picture in UMA interior (sans 3 -sec staff). Or if I ever decided to play her myself... perhaps. but I don't have any current plans to draw her.
  9. In RDU, there is Fleur De Lis. Savate and investigative expert. She is illustrated by me in Watchers of the Dragon. I know that this will come as a suprise, but fleur de lis's play a big part in her costume design. I was just working on a french superhero, using the colors of their flag (red, white, blue...sound familiar anyone?), but in equal proportions at diagonals across the body. I dropped the project, because the character morphed into Geist, the Austrian superhero that is my new character. Germans are easy... having such a rich visual language. Their eagle is much different than an american eagle. The iconography of Nazi germany still invokes emotion...and of course is probably stayed far away from by heroes of Germany. Same with the russians, that red star is a powerful symbol. 30s poster art is a great resourse. I suggest looking up a country in google. Do some research. Find out the coat of arms, look at the biggest city or the most defining landscape. A dutch hero named Dyke (go ahead, laugh, but we have one in RDU) brings forth all kinds of unintended associations. But an earth elemental named Levy who is Dutch might not get those giggles. Just some thoughts off the top of my head....
  10. It is a star wars character, in a ship that is a sister class of the Falcoln. So all that was quite intentional. But thanks Stephen, glad you liked it.
  11. My first new champs character in SOME time!!! Poor Neil, I used to pump out characters almost on a weekly basis. But I've calmed down in my middle age. But I got a chance to introduce a new character for this upcoming week. So here is Geist. This character came from several different threads of thought. Neil's comments on magic on these boards. A tie-in with my GMing of a villain created by an event with Mentalla. The fact that I have never played a mentalist in RDU. The discussion between Eric and Neil and I about how mentalists are not frontline fighters, can de-rail plots and my own GMing of telepath character with frightening levels of Teep in SAS. And Eric's definitative Locke, the premier psi of RDU, who draws on the ambient psychic energy of everyone around him. Quite a challenge to come up with a front line mentalist that was different. Giest was my ploy. He answers and draws power from the spirits of the dead. His attacks have no range... his defenses are decent for a beginning character to get in the middle of a tussle. And all of his plot-destroying powers? GM control limitation. Sure, he has clairsentience and telepathy... but only when the spirits deem it necessary to tell him. 12. The Black Ops saga is updated over at Green Ronin; http://www.greenronin.com/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?p=22623#22623 No pics this time, but if you are curious in last night's game.... there ya go.
  13. Y'know, now that you mentioned it. I think I did get erroneious credit for Dark Champions... the cover was based on a drawing I did... but I did not do the cover.
  14. Not defensive. Annoyed. You've already have made it abundently clear that you don't care for the earlier sketchy pics. So why bring it up again? And the statement "maybe its the blue-green pallet I don't care for..." is just a stupid statement, considering that is ALL Kid Cobalt is (which you stated you did like) and your own freakin' avatar! Listen, this stuff is not for print.. although I feel that some of it is good enough to print. Its just for me fooling around with various techniques, illustrating some characters in my games. I'm sharing it with y''all so you might get some use out of it. The comments I was hoping to get was "hey, this is useful." or "gee, sketchy qualities CAN work for some sub-genres of superheroes", maybe stumble around some techniques... heck, costume design like yourself posted.... not to get detailed analysis of, dare I say it? SKETCHES!!! It is my fault, I admit. I didn't make clear what kind of comments I was expecting. However, everyone can feel free to critique my art. I just hold the right to feel annoyed when it seems petty to me. Trust me, I've taken much stronger critiques of my art than anyone has dished out here. I know what a good critique is. And I know how to take my medicine. But I really can't give a damn that you don't like my blue-green palette. I just can't take a statement like that seriously. Its like saying, because you drew a figure in your sketch book with legs too short, that you suck because I don't like the way you draw legs. If I have an issue with the way you draw legs, I would point out; "hey, measure that leg from the knee down... it seems wonky in its length"... or something. I wouldn't say; "hey prismacolors suck for superheroes and I don't like your style because of your short legs." See the difference?
  15. Tetsuyama, I did not do the cover to Dark Champions. A famous (but not so famous, that I remember his name) video game artist did it. He did a lot of console art for coin-op video games. But thanks on the shoot-out at the piano. That was kind a visual in-joke for my good friend Rick, who plays piano. Shooting up a keyboard seemed like great fun at the time. What silly places ideas come from!?!?!?!
  16. This is another commission. I didn't feel like opening a thread in Star Hero, where this image belongs. Just seemed better not to have over-proliferation of Storn threads. Yup, another watercolor like one. Obviously a character in a sci fi game that should be obvious when you open the link. The character is Bob Fletchers... to give credit where credit is due.
  17. Since characters, IMO, do not exist in a vaccuum, I would publish enough of Neil's Red Dragon Universe to have it make sense. There are many great characters, PCs and NPCs alike. My main character is Vector, teke. Who's history is so long and convoluted now, I'm not sure I can sum him up easily. He has made mistakes, sacrificed much, lost and won... and is such a vibrant, deep character to me. I can put on "Vector" like putting on a shirt. But he isn't me. He is definitely his own entity.
  18. That is funny Acro. There are no new ideas. My sketch, the pencils were sitting around for two weeks. So, maybe we were channeling the same idea. What is kinda ironic, is that sketch is useless for my character concept... I moved away from that visual idea as I built the character... but my GM asked me to throw a cape on it quickly and would be perfect for an NPC. And on Cobalt there, yeah, the Kirby homage was deliberate. Rob's request is that Cobalt is a silver age-looking type and Kirby was the word he used too. So... I guess I do know Jack.

    Hero or M&M?

tesuji, nicely written post. On the skills in M&M, I just learned this myself... take a look at Talented Feat. It allows bonuses to a group of related skills. So, the thief who needs Move Silent and Hide can buy Talented Feat and get a bonus to both. That makes skills cheaper, slightly. We are still using 1:1, but many on the Green Ronin boards are using 1:3 skill pts.. I think that might be overly much... but 1:2 probably wouldn't bother me much.

    Hero or M&M?

Derek, I'm sorry that I'm disagreeing with you twice in one thread. But c'mon, Gurps has MORE in common with Hero than not. 3d6 roll under skill disadvantages similar range of stats (8-18 basically) point system for chargen And I think Gurps is very, very flexible except in one place: Supers. So, yeah, a Supers game is probably going to be easier in Hero. Gurps doesn't ramp to high power levels as easily. But that is it. Gurps does pretty much every other genre you care for pretty well. Different "feel", but does it well. I'm not a huge Gurps fan. But I don't think the differences are all that much. I actually love Gurps skill & magic spell structure...although it gets rampant with all the supplements.
  21. Yup, Dmg Resist, not Reduce... sorry. I think 2 PD Dmg Resist would be fine, except vs. Stun, you would actually add the 2 to your natural PD for purposes of Stun only. Leather can prevent you from getting killed, or a sword/arrow thrust from going through you, but that is all it does. There isn't much force absorbtion there. Padded under chain is a bit different. IMO.
  22. Rob Young's Kid Cobalt ...or is that Kobalt Kid? I can't remember the right way. Anyway, this is a private commission from Rob Young for one of his M&M characters. A slightly retro look and a more traditional color technique than the last grayscale experiment. Hope y'all like.
  23. Nato, it was grey Koh-i-Noor Drawing ink. But usually, I use FW Arcylic Artist Ink for most of my underpaintings. Usually a sepia or a brown. I was just experimentin'
  24. Well, I wasn't going to finish this doodle. But I wanted to experiment with liquid acrylics on top of clear gesso for an underpainting. Usually I do gesso acrylic seal over pencils before oil paint...but the gesso, while clear, is kinda milky and dilutes the darkest darks. Something that is very useful to have when doing the overpainting. So, this was to be a character drawing, but as I was building the character, it changed on me considerably... so I ditched this drawing, not overly enamored with it. but it served as the perfect vehicle to test out my *new* underpainting technique. So I'm posting it here in case anyone finds a use for it. Because the pencil is sealed in, there is lots of little stray lines. While this was just a test, in a true painting, the whole surface would be covered and you would never see stray pencil lines.
