Wrong person. I did a list of manuvers for a Shield based martial arts.

Isn't that what the Power skill is for, beyond being the required skill to manipulate a Variable Power Pool?
  3. I noticed that some midevil fantasy anime don't stick to the standard fantasy races. Beast Tamer for example has a cat girl, a Dragonkin, twin faeries, and a young fox spirit "demigod" in the main character's party. In "I've Been Killing Slimes For 300 Years..." we have a layed back immortal human witch, two humanoid slime spirits, an elve who brews energy drinks, a red and blue dragon (well, one red dragon and one blue one), for starts. Sometimes you actually do miss halflings. By the way, one of the people who visit the "Restaurant From Another World" is a halfling couple (another fantasy light novel turned anime). It should be noted that the 'other world' reference by the title is our world.
  4. Hit location with Transform only sees what is hit, and doesn't multiply the effect. Disabling an arm is no different with this power than disabling a leg or disabling a chest or head. Generally use common sense. Disabling an arm makes the arm useless for attacking or grabbing. Disabling a leg makes the leg useless for attacking or moving. Disabling the chest means you have to catch your breath and can't use it for any attack which basically pushes your chest into things (it hurts too much to even touch things with it). A disabled head means you are "stunned" (in that you have to pause to clear the cobwebs out), and is useless to headbut people.
  5. True. I haven't watched this one yet. I don't think there are any common trates between Isakai heros to actually make this a class. Most of them are overpowered of some type, but none of them are overpowered in exactly the same way. And while midevil fantasy is common, we can have a range from roman gladiators to World War 1 (Tanya) to Psuedo Victorian (the upcoming I'm In Love With The Villainess). We are lacking an Old West Isakai ("Cowboy And Truck-Kuns"), but well, wait a while...
  6. Well, one can do this via Transformation (Usable Limb to Unusable Limb, AVLD [resistant PD instead of Power Defense]), No Range. Once all the Transformation "damage" is healed the limb struck starts to work again. You could also make it a long term transformation by defining the healing as "under medical attention". But it would be better using the rules in Hero System Martial Arts. This is nothing new, as I believe this rule was in Ninja Hero 1ed and The Ultimate Martial Artist.
  7. Ok. What if Truck-Kun could also travel to different dimensions? And your Fantasy Hero character has to fight it like just another monster, except it can definitely remove your character temporarily from the battle (it HAS to be temporary, or imagine the confusion of a fantasy warrior or wizard in the modern world).
  8. Depends on if you actually prefer your magical girls to actually cast spells or not. She-Ra basically has superhuman strength and resistance of her twin brother, and her sword (which she never uses as a sword because of standards and practices) is able to transform into whatever object she needs (at least She-Ra's sword is useful beyond transformation).

Cool. I'm glad you like it.

There is nothing like it in HSMA. Was there anything like it in Fantasy Hero? If any setting would have such a combat art, it would be Fantasy Hero. Generally such martial arts should be usable with Shield for free, and contain the Basic Strike manuver (Shield Strike), Charge (Shield Rush), Counterstrike (Blocking Shield Strike), Defensive Throw (Shield Push), Killing Strike (Edge Of Shield Cut), Martial Block (Shield Block), Martial Disarm (Shield Deflection Into Disarmament), Martial Shove (Advance Shield Push), Root (Cover Behind The Shield And Brace), Takedown (Offensive Shield Push), and Weapon Bind (Pin Weapon With Shield). Off Hand Defense is a likely Talent.

Someone should build a "Advance Shield Arts" style martial arts using the Hero System Martial Arts book one day...

Could be an excuse to spend ex...expense points. And to get rid of a pesky ex-lover? I was actually thinking XP really.
  13. There is definitely difference between gendra conventions and game needs. Deen, do you need a list of recommendations? You could always start with Bewitched and I Dream of Jennie. (Ha! Fact, the USA created magical girls first, as Samantha Stevens and Jennie the Genie inspired many of the first magical girls). Special note: A "magical girl" needs not actually wield magic, just as long as the 'science' is so rubber it bounces like a super ball. Magical Girls come in many flavors. They are: 1) Helpers: They usually have a wide selection of magical powers, but none of them are traditional attacks. They exist to help their neighbors, mostly using their magic in secret. They may have a long term goal, or maybe not. 2) Fighters: These galls act like superheroes, fighting monsters and henchmen to protect the world. 3) Instant Adults: The only "magic" makes the young girl an adult or older teenager, and they live a double life. May mix with others, but... 4) Magical Girlfriends: They are already magical beings and fall in love with some guy and stay with them and use their magic to make the life of the boyfriend...different. Beyond that... Fighting Girls recommendations: Sailor Moon/Sailor Moon Crystal/Sailor Moon Eternal/Sailor Moon Cosmos : Well, everyone is recommending this. Netflix has Crystal and the two Eternal movies, and may get the two Cosmos movies by late 2023 (they are scheduled to be released in Japan in the spring/summer season). If you want to see the original series (well, VIZ's dub of it...only watch the DiC/Cloverway dub if you want to either laugh or bang your head against a hard object because of all the changes they had to do to make it palatable for the American Parents), I guess YouTube has clips. Hulu has the VIZ dub. Cutie Honey: Technically not a "magical" girl (she is an android), her technically is ill defined (an object in her chest allows her to create any object she wishes, and can disguise herself, along with a sword and boomerang). Most of her shows are aimed at boys (except for Cutie Honey Flash). Pretty Cure series: The current big hotness in magical girl shows. Each year a new bunch of girls. I personally don't care for this but your mileage may vary. Miraculous: If you think Japanese only does the Magical Girl thing, you don't know the French. The adventures of Ladybug and Cat Noir. Earth Defense Force Love: I'm probably misremembering the name of this. A parody of the magical girl show, instead of a group of girls the 'magical girls' are cute high school boys. They don't even crossdress. And speaking of... Is This A Zombie? : Not really a magical girl show, but a comedy surrounding a newly dead and resirected as a zombie high school boy and his bonded necromancer. To make matters worse, he is also picked to be a magical girl by another person. And he is given a magical costume which gives him magical powers but does not change his gender (but does allow him to withstand the sun which would instantly destroy him as a zombie). Magical Girl Ori: Another parody. Two would be idol singers become magical girls because one girl's mom says so (along with her yakuza styled faerie familiar). The change increases their muscles and strength but doesn't actually give them magic (and makes them look like crossdressing bodybuilders).

Ok. Sorry that the shield bash as a blunt weapon slipped my mind. Anyways, she could technically use the edge of the shield as a cutting weapon. Heck, Cap used it as one to behead Brother Blood once (an old English nazi fifth columnist turned vampire). Still, nothing beats a good sword.

    Shield Maiden

Nice. She should have a blunt weapon also, but she can always get that later with ex. Note: the blunt weapon should definitely NOT be a war hammer of some kind. Unless she is rather friendly with Thor and his wife Sif doesn't mind...
  16. Yep. That is a doable part of the magical girl gendra. There are no stories of magical girls over 21 years old anyways... (well, mostly).
  17. Extremely understandable. As far as Joe Champions Player knows, he and his device are simply words in a book, if they even know of him at all. In fact, he IS words in a book, as far as I know. And yes, he is a Full Pounder Cheeseburger With Extra Cheese And A Side Order Of Cheese With It's Own Side Order Of Cheese, No Room For French Fries, And Washed Down With A Cheese Flavored Soft Drink. The writer of the subplot example featuring him even said it was an extra cheesy plot. That or the giant turkey. That was cheesy also.
  18. What we know about Professor Pomegranate. 1) He is really smart. 2) He is not in his original body (he had his brain transplanted). This was explained in a big thing about subplots in the BBB (and was probably a reprint of something earlier). 3) He doesn't seem to have any superpowers of note (unless having a gadget pool VVP is enough to make him a supervillain as opposed to a villain). 4) We don't know exactly how the Ubermachine works, or why.
  19. Someone should write up Professor Pomegranate. Tiger already written up Doctor Lirby Koo. (Who would of thought he was slightly Raz Al Ghul? Well, Tiger for one.) The Ubermachine? It is capable of infusing people with energy and altering DNA (Darkion, Jabberrok, Spectra, the so far unwritten The Blonde Bonbshell). But we only have four examples, with only three written up and one only by game rumors.
  20. Quite true. But "superskills" do exist. They just cost a lot of time and money. Also he knows Professor Pomegranate and his Ubermachine. If he likes you and you pay well, he'll introduce you to him.
  21. There is someone I believe is being left out of this conversation. The Thugmaster. Sure, he might know Professor Pomegranate and his Ubermachine, but more importantly anyone with enough cash can enter his School For Thugs and learn various high level skills. Besides, remember that it is not illegal to teach someone to pick a lock. If they use the skill to rob a safe, that is another matter.
  22. Probably afraid and angry, willing to prove her existence by killing the magical girl whose wish created her as "prof" of her existence is real. "She is dead, and I'm still here! Don't you see? Don't you see! I'm not looking through my right hand now...I can't be slowly fading away. I'm real. I'm REAL!"
  23. Congratulations Deen. Welcome to the wonderful wierd world of anime magical girls. The "fighting" magical girl started with basically Cutie Honey, which was made by Go Nagi and for boys. Sailor Moon took slightly from that and past "helping" magical girls, a bit of Power Rangers and put them into a blender. If you seen some Power Rangers, then some magical girl shows, then you get an idea about what is expected. Remember: henchmen tend to be less competent than the leader. This is more of a Masters of the Universe thing (as they have to follow television standards and practice for children's television), but can also show up in magical girl shows. The monsters of the week tend to be expendable. If they are expendable, DON'T MAKE THEM FORMER TRANSFORMED HUMANS. If she has the ability to cure the monsters, then go ahead and make them transformed humans. Top henchmen can have relationships with each other. This is important. For example, Zoicite and Nephrite are rivals, with Zoicite belittling Nephrite for each loss. He is also in a gay relationship with Kunzite, his superior. Shojo (girls) manga has been advanced on such relationships since the 1970's (even if the early 70's was more pore gay lovers who have to die together romantically). Beyond that, well, everything is up to you and your players.
