  1. Why is this, does anyone know?
  2. Byzantium is a cool place to base a campaign because you can really mix it up culturally. You have Persians, Turks, Russians, Varangians, European crusaders, Italian city states, Spanish kingdoms, Asian Khanates, and African caliphates all a boat ride away.
  3. True, although most of the time it felt like it was coasting on inertia, almost in spite of whatever the emperors were doing. Still, it took a plague plus some really big guns to finally put an end to it.
  4. I'm more of a knots guy myself. The one good thing that could be said for CCGs is that (questionable art direction aside) it kept fantasy artists employed for almost thirty years. But now AI is here.
  5. That Morris is not Belichick (or Vrabel) is the main reason those fans are unhappy.
  6. Who knows where fast cops lurk in the hearts of men?
  7. Raheem Morris to the Falcons. Falcon fandom is firmly not thrilled.
  8. Elsewhere than Texas? Latitude matters for orbital launch. The only other contiguous state that far south is Florida, which not only has a worse lunatic government problem, it also has a worse climate change problem. No, the answer is to kick Texas out of the Union--and then invade it and seize it.
  9. But I want to know where the fast cop hides.
  10. Replying to my own post--I didn't know this when I saw it, but Godzilla Minus One was filmed on a budget of $15M. That's almost incomprehensible considering the product that made it to the screen. It should probably win the effects Oscar based on this fact alone.
  11. Ascendant the game seems to get mid-to-good reviews depending on whether you mind charts. It's hard to find reviews of the game through all the controversy swirling around Macris, though. I have to say, getting yourself banned from rpgnet is something of an achievement.
  12. Goldfinger (1964): It turns out that aside from a couple of iconic scenes, I hadn't seen this movie at all. It really did a speedrun of the formula, as Bond gets through an infiltration, an explosion, a fistfight, a drink, and makes out with a pretty girl, all before the opening credits. After FRWL this film went pretty far into the ridiculous, especially with regard to female character motivation, so it was something of a letdown. And the idea of murder-by-gold-paint hasn't gotten any less stupid. But it wasn't bad if you try really hard to suspend your disbelief. Next up is Thunderball, which oddly enough is on Prime and not Max.
  13. 757s haven't been in production for years, so at least that incident is a maintenance issue. Which is not to say that everything is hunky-dory at Boeing. The engineers are starting to talk to the press.
  14. Journal of the American Medical Association: Rape-Related Pregnancies in the 14 US States With Total Abortion Bans For those of you who are related to at least one woman.
  15. From Russia With Love (1963): The lull in Marvel output has presented me with a chance to watch those Bond films that I've only seen pieces of. I have to say I was amazed at how quickly the Bond franchise got the formula down--this is the second ever Bond movie and all the requirements are here. I like this version of Bond--more spy, less Batman--and the movie is relatively light on effects as a result. Daniela Bianchi makes for an excellent Bond girl (though I don't expect any Bond girl to outdo Lois Chiles as Dr. Holly Goodhead). This movie felt way longer than its 1h55m run time. No mid- or end-credits scenes.
  16. If I can draw the sword from the windshield, do I become king?
  17. I see no reason why you can't just simultaneously be in multiple levels of Hell. I don't think the physics there works the same as it does in this level. Chinese got a lot of Hells, Jack.
  18. Kansas City man had no idea 3 friends were dead in his backyard
  19. I was pulling for a Lions-Bills Super Bowl but I guess it wasn't to be. Not sure either game next week will be interesting in and of themselves, but a SB with either SF or Detroit will at least be a change of pace.
  20. I'd take the Ravens at -3.5 no question. Their running game has been unstoppable even aside from Lamar. Likewise their pass rush. Detroit's problem is going to be CMC. I don't think they've had to face a rushing attack like that all season.
