  1. JFC that video is an hour long, what is the tl;dw?
  2. The Seven Deaths of Evelyn Hardcastle by Stuart Turton (2018) The Shadows Between Us by Tricia Levenseller (2020) The Space Between Worlds by Micaiah Johnson (2020) The Sixth World's End by Naomi Novik (2020) Aaron Allston's Strike Force (2016) by Aaron Allston and Michael Surbrook
  3. Looks like Hiram wielded a punt gun in Tremors 4 (which was a prequel to the trilogy).
  4. Rumors that the James Webb telescope has detected signs of alien life on K2-18b are still only rumors but at the same time there is no known nonbiological process that would produce that much dimethyl sulfide
  5. The Paper Menagerie (2015) by Ken Liu. (I have read this and I highly recommend it) Pachinko (2017) by Min Jin Lee Project Hail Mary (2021) by Andy Weir
  6. Echo on Disney+ got a lot better in Episodes 4 and 5 as it finally started to address the interpersonal (and intrapersonal) conflicts set up in the previous episodes (and the Hawkeye series). I'd rate it as average for an MCU series, which would make it above average viewing in general. The portrayal of Choctaw culture really gives this series a boost, but it could have used a shot of Hawkeye-level humor. Don't forget to stick around for the mid-credits scene after Episode 5.
  7. Wrong! The other best setting is 5th century Europe: Arthurian myth Attila the Hun Fall of the Roman Empire Continued Existence of the Byzantine Empire Conquests by the Merovingian kings leading to the founding of France Founding of the Kingdom of Italy Vandals and Visigoths Anglo-Saxon migration into England Celts in Ireland and Scotland (and Christianization thereof) Still no Vikings although there was plenty of raiding going on in and around Scandinavia This Europe is quite a bit darker, even postapoc from a Roman perspective. It lends itself to a more sword-and-sorcery type of campaign as various barbarian tribes fight over the scraps of the Roman Empire while its knowledge and secrets are lost to the ages.
  8. 12th century Europe is the way: Byzantine Empire Castile, Aragon, and Moorish Spain Knights Templar Second and Third Crusades Genghis Khan Silk Road Merchant Republics of Italy English civil wars and wars with France Holy Roman Empire Teutonic Knights Decline of Kievan Rus Seljuq Empire About the only thing 12th century Europe doesn't have is Vikings, but you could probably squeeze them in and no one would know any better.
  9. Picks in order of descending confidence: Ravens over Texans. Anyone who says otherwise hasn’t seen the Ravens play. Neeners over Packers Lions over Bucs, but only if they play like they want it Erratic Bills over lackluster Chiefs. I want to believe
  10. Let me know if you need another player for that campaign
  11. Both teams had the dropsies in that game. I think the Bucs had half a dozen drops just in the first half. It was a frustrating game to watch.
  12. The Keeper of Lost Things (2013) by Ruth Hogan The Killer in Me (2015) by Amanda Craig Kingdom of the Wicked (2018) by L.J. Shen
  13. 50% is a landslide result for an Iowa caucus. I can't find an example of any other non-incumbent candidate winning more than 30% there in modern history, D or R. The only hope for Trump's competitors is that the Iowa weather kept all the sane people home.
  14. House of Leaves (2000) by Mark Z. Danielewski Honeydew (2015) by Crystal Hana Kim
  15. I'm inclined to give the Fins a bit of a pass after they lost five starting LBs over the previous two weeks, as well as Jaylen Waddle and Xavien Howard. And then played a playoff game in weather cold enough to shatter helmets. Otherwise I only felt bad for the Rams, who played well but just had a lot of things go wrong. And they still only lost by a point. Next week I'm inclined to root for Houston, Buffalo, and Detroit, all for the same reason--a long stretch without any Superb Owl appearances. Houston's not gonna beat Baltimore though.
  16. For me the main justification for firing Sirianni would be the total lack of ideas or morale on the team. They made no changes on offense at all, and there's been plenty of press coverage of both the players and coaching staff having no idea how to fix it. I'm semi-watching this game, Tampa is in man coverage basically all the time and Philly has two running quarterbacks and I didn't see a single designed run. No attempt to get running backs involved in the passing game, no pre-snap motion. I'm like, dude, put in Mariota or try a wildcat or something. The whole thing reminds me of the McCarthy days in Green Bay where the coach calls endless vanilla plays and expects the players to do all the work.
  17. Man it's like the Eagles gave up four weeks ago.
  18. Hex grids are just square grids with every other row offset by half a square.
  19. Jeez, Eagles. Tampa's defense isn't even particularly good.
  20. Xenophon's Anabasis (368 BCE) The Xylographic Treatises (1471) The X-Ray: Its Theory and Application (1896)
  21. The Vampyre (1819) The Voyage of the Beagle (1839)
  22. I'm not sure they should have shown the replay on the Higbee hit. Knees are not supposed to have that particular range of motion.
