Clearly photoshopped. If anyone did lose a chihuahua, I can't imagine them wanting it back.

You possibly still can, as I dont thik Steve has finshed it.  THe wy he talked about it, his system could also be an overlay for other game systems.

For what it is worth,I liked the lethality.  It encouraged role play over gun play when things started going south.

What he told me, is that he ws working on a system that shared some procedures with Hero, but itself was not Hero. Them die rolls were different, but I didn't remember the specifics. He was talking about it with Myself, Bryce Nakagawa, and Steve Perrin (right before he died, which ws a surprise to all of us.) I am not hat much of a mechanics guy, until I am playing the game. It sounded interesting, though.

Only in Robot Warriors, I'm afraid.

I _wanted_ Battletech, but as the only person I knew who was interested, I couldnt really justify the expenditure back then; Robot Warriors I could justify, having accidentally bought Robot Gladiators first.  At that point,I obviously _had_ to have the game, or the supplement was wasted money, right?

I liked Robot Warriors well enough, but the overall genericness of it (game-build and mech-wise) was always just a bit disappointing.

it's like you really wanted to see the Jovian Chronicles anime but your parents bought you Robot Jox instead:  you liked it, but it didn't quite scratch that itch.....

OSR grogs frequently boast of how much "smarter" and more "tactical" they have to be when playing because of OD&D's deadliness, particularly compared to WotC editions.  IME they're trash players compared to the old-school Traveller mob.  No magical healing in Traveller (barring a GM who lets psionics in) so that crutch is absent, your "hit points" never increase to let you shrug off damage, and the baddies are carrying the same weapons and armor your are - ie, the best ones they can afford and get away with carrying at the local law level.

There's an old issue of Power Man & Iron Fist that canonically established that Luke (who also has trouble keeping his shirt intact) buys his yellow silk shirts a dozen at a time from the same NYC tailor that Bruce Banner gets his pants from.  Presumably the fabric has a whole lot lot of give.

There's also dialog in one of those Ultimates books where a newscaster is describing a very naked Hulk going on a rampage and pausing to kill some 500-pound bystander and steal his pants before continuing.  My head canon insists that gamma radiation acts just like steroid abuse and shrivels one's tools like salted slugs, making the Green Goliath a bit shy about public exposure.

I remember my pet mutant character Sunburn (when I still played). Sunburn was a teenage mutant who absorbs and projects solar energy. One of his powers was converting his body into sunlight and moving it around at the speed of light (special effect of Teleportation). Early in his career since he couldn't afford a costume of unstable molecules (the camping was set in the Marvel Universe), each time he teleported his clothing was left behind.

His nickname was "The Milwaukee Flash", even when he was given ab unstable molecules costume by his team MetaGuard.

Agreed, although the other side effect was to plan to have every advantage possible when violence was the most (or only) viable option.  Really taught people how to plan ambushes and distractions and use dirty tricks and sabotage...and plot out your withdrawal if things still go wrong.  Never fight unprepared, and don't fight at all if you can talk your way out of having to.

    You can go longhand:

Shape shift, regeneration, maybe some personal defense that doesn't help the guy in the costume--

Or you could claim "instant change", only into one outfit-  _this_ outfit, and handwave the altered shaoes of stretchy people and morphy people.

Or you can do what I do and declare it sfx of  havibg a super suit, available if you want it.

I managed to miss those, but it's not like the system in LBB Traveller was stellar.  Ship combat was okay, but personal combat was extraordinarily lethal.  The strength of Traveller is the setting, in all its humanocentric dieselpunk glory.

The Gaean Reach RPG has a cool setup. Everyone has a reason to want revenge on a particular guy. It's up to the players why in their specific character's case, and it's up to the GM who the guy is. (And obviously "the guy's" gender etc.)

It doesn't involve a lot of needless backstory - just a description of the world they are on and place they are in.

It still takes a bit of effort getting them in one place and getting them to know each other, but they have a common goal.

Shame about the rest of the game.
