  1. My high school's mascot. There was a plaque over the entrance with a bas relief of a roadrunner with a snake in its beak, and the motto, "Brings home the bacon." I see them occasionally, usually close to a wash or more open desert.
  2. Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania: Better than the reviews would have me believe. Overall, I enjoyed it. (4K UHD Blu-ray)
  3. Discovering specific stuff on Disney+ can be a real chore with their content recommendation system, but that's also true for other streamers as well. Checking their "All Movies" list, I counted over 1100 items across all genres. A lot of that isn't stuff I'd watch, but there's quite a bit that I would. Generally, many of the family-friendly movies (and Marvel stuff) from the 20th Century purchase went to Disney+, while more adult fare went to Hulu, but the two services are slated to be merged later this year, so that will be less of an issue (Those in other countries aleady get the stuff we'd get on Hulu as part of Disney+ because Hulu was never marketed much outside of the US). Disney has also licensed some of its stuff to other streamers, especially some of the 20th Century stuff. While that might be old agreements still in play, it wouldn't surprise me if they continue it, and stuff that they purge from Disney+ might show up in other places, much like what Warner/Discovery did with several shows removed from HBOmax that are now on The Roku Channel. There's also a story floating about that Disney will be creating its own FAST service (free ad-supported television), like Pluto TV (Paramount), and it is very likely that some of these shows will end up on it. That might be spun off from the ABC TV app, which I believe currently requires linking to a cable or satellite provider. As far as any streaming service goes, anything that I really like I try to get as a physical copy (if it's available), as you can't guarantee when something will be removed or altered. By the way, risk of removal also applies to digital copies--if a "digital locker" like Movies Anywhere or Vudu or Amazon loses the rights to carry something, it can be removed from a purchased collection.
  4. Little Shop of Horrors-Director's Cut: This is the musical version from 1986. According to Frank Oz, producer David Geffen told writer/composer Howard Ashman and him that the original ending wouldn't work for a theatrical piece, but he let them shoot it anyway. After a test screening, the test audience returned only 13% favorable comment cards, they were forced to shoot an alternate ending, which became the theatrical cut. The Blu-ray release restored the director's cut, and it has a decidedly 1950s B-movie feel to the additional 20 minutes of footage (in a very good way). I liked it, but I also understand why it was changed for the original theatrical release. I found my copy recently at a Wal-mart, for around $10, and the disc has the theatrical cut as well. (Blu-ray)
  5. You don't know how confused I was when I first heard the term, "Vegan". I thought that they had left off the "Las" from in front. Someone explained it to me over a steak and eggs special* down at the old Horsehoe Hotel and Casino in downtown Las Vegas. *It was the Nineties, and it was $1.99 after midnight, and it was glorious. A 10oz New York strip and three eggs, cooked any way you wanted. We'd frequently tip more than the price of our meal because the servers were really good, never had to wait for a refill on our drinks.
  6. There's a certain blindness that consequences will only happen to other people.
  7. Mailer number four for not-a-candidate DeSantis, so about every four business days. He's still not backing down, apparently. Oh, well. At least the post office gets some revenue.
  8. There's a pair of ravens that I've seen a few times over the last few weeks at my work. One of them seems to like the fountain in front of the hotel's porte cochere.
  9. Military and first responders tend to skew conservative, as well. It would, however, block many college students, who skew more liberal. And as Cancer notes, it would essentially be a literacy test that would be hard for many to pass, especially with the changes to education that are being made in red states.
  10. We'll never be as young as this No matter how we try, we grow
  11. "Only when you learn to see the ugly side of idiocy, will you confront poetry." "Great intelligence disintegrates greatly" "If you want someone to grope you, you must be prepared to grope yourself." "Women! Creatures! Team up to defeat your common adversary, your chromosomes!" "The suspicion means s**t without the bleach." "Reach out to reptilians!" "Robots need to focus more"
  12. Thankfully, they are Federal charges, and as the current President, he can always pardon himself.
  13. I believe that it was one that promised magic ponies that blew rainbows out of their butt* if Great Britain would leave the EU. Or £350 million per week surplus for things like NHS. *Magic pony chow not included. Offer not valid in England, Scotland, Wales, or Northern Ireland. May have additional fees. Seek medical care if your head of lettuce lasts longer than your PM.Brexit Bus not to scale.
  14. It is a civil case, so I would be surprised if it did.
  15. I had a manager at Circuit City who used to grab an AOL CD off of one of the clip strips, and throw the disc into the break-room microwave as his form of therapy. It was very pretty, until the time that he broke the magnetron. We heard the loud bang from the sales floor.
  16. I have now received a total of three mailers for Ron DeSantis, and they are addressed to my family, which makes me think that they're going off of a very old list. I've been registered as an independent since 2017, so I wouldn't be eligible to vote in the Republican primary. Mom was registered Republican in Maine, but I transferred her mail after her death to my address, and I still occasionally receive political stuff addressed to her, even though the last time she was eligible to vote in Nevada was sometime in Bill Clinton's first term. The last mailer's campaigning hard on his little league and college baseball record, which doesn't really translate to any kind of skill in governing that I can see. All of them are pushing very hard the idea that he's for Freedom, though none of them seem to understand what that word actually means. The "not a candidate" certainly doesn't.
  17. My bank charges non-preferred customers a fee to use mobile check deposit. I asked what made someone a preferred customer, and was told that it was someone with at least one million dollars in accounts. Suffice it to say, I don't use the mobile check deposit with them. --- One of my accounts is collecting spam emails, in the general format of my first name on the subject line (sometimes with a question mark or RE: before it), and a name that I don't recognize as the sender. I'm guessing that the body of the email is html, but that gets stripped when I send it to spam. The message is usually "It's me" or something similar, and the email address is what appears to be a disposable gmail account. I'm guessing that if I responded, the messaging would change to the actual scam. Oh, and it's an older email account that I haven't actively given out to friends for something like a decade and a half, so I doubt that it's anyone I actually know. I'm also getting a small amount of fishing scams, with the latest purporting to be from "Wells Frago".* The spam filters caught that one and flushed it. *If I ever play a rogue, I'm seriously thinking of using this as the name.
