  1. I realized about 2/3 through the 5.1 version of this track that I might have the volume a little bit high for 9:30 PM. My only saving grace is that my nearest neighbor is a bit deaf.... Currently listening to the 5.1 version of "Kiss from a Rose" by Seal.
  2. "Not One of Us" by Peter Gabriel. Or the German version....
  3. Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl soundtrack by Klaus Badelt.
  4. Oh, sure, it's all fun and games until the waveform collapses. "I thought you said you were decent." "I am decent. I also happen to be naked."
  5. Everything that's running Windows 10 at my house is upgraded. The ultrabook started out as Windows 8 Home, Surface Pro 3 as Windows 8.1 Pro. Two desktops have also been upgraded in my house. The primary (a Core i5) started as Windows 7 Home Premium, received a free upgrade to Windows 8 Home, a paid upgrade to Windows 8 Pro (for Media Center), an upgrade to 8.1, and then Windows 10 Pro. The other computer (an original-release Core 2 Duo), came with a Windows Vista Ultimate license, which was immediately converted to Windows 7 Home Premium, and lived that way until an upgrade to Windows 10 Home. It's a household music server (using Asset UPnP) and occasional TV recorder.
  6. I have an ultrabook (used infrequently) and a Surface Pro 3 (used quite frequently), and neither one has issues with waking up from sleep. Both are currently Windows 10.
  7. "Wouldn't It Be Nice" (5.1 mix) by the Beach Boys.
  8. No, they really don't bother me. They do dive-bomb the cats when they go out on the patio, however. There are a lot of food sources for them around here, and we always have a bunch of juvenile males around this time of year fighting over territory. Here's one from a few years ago:
  9. New crop of mockingbirds outside. One is serenading with a very good rendition of a car alarm and sparrow call, another is counter-programming with a pop tune of an audible crosswalk with car lock/unlock horn accompaniment.
  10. Nevada has "None of These" as an option for most races on the ballot, but doesn't allow write-in candidates. Other states will vary considerably.

  12. Sounds like it should be part of the incidental music from "Firefly/Serenity".
  13. Australia uses preferential voting, so their races are a little different. Here's an explanation about it: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Instant-runoff_voting
  14. I ended up on "70s on 7" on the way home: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6pDM1zmFJ-k
  15. Well, no wonder! You're missing the cheese curds!
  16. 1. "Hurt" by Johnny Cash. 2. "Bad, Bad Leroy Brown" by Jim Croce. 3. "Girl You Know It's True" by Milli Vanilli
  17. Guys, they couldn't move in. It's extremely obvious that the station landed at an angle, and everyone knows that only villain lairs are allowed to be slanted like that.
  18. I use an ad blocker, originally because I can't stand to have flashing stuff in my face when I'm attempting to read a page*, but now because of the malware risk that they represent. Flash player is similarly set to only play if I let it, and I'm using a plugin to automatically pause video so that I don't get surprises when I open a link. I have whitelisted a few sites who run polite ads (usually static ones), and I've paid for subscriptions on a few sites to avoid ads altogether. As for links that I follow to sites which refuse to show me stuff because I have an ad blocker, well, I guess that I don't really need to read that page, and they don't get any of my views. *There are a few bloggers on the Gawker websites who insist on putting crappy animated GIFs every paragraph or so in their stories. There is a special place in Hell for them (and it probably involves Hulk Hogan).
  19. I'll second that. My current mix is Avast and Malwarebytes. In my case, both are licensed versions, which means that Malwarebytes scans in real time.
  20. I guess my real question is, are there still 9-year old kids reading comics? I'm not really sure that most folks without a pull list are actively reading comics on a regular basis, and the sales figures seem to bear that out. It's certainly not the same market that had paid circulations for some titles around a half a million per issue back in the 60s and 70s. Heck, I stopped reading comic books regularly some time in the 80s, when variant covers and price increases made the hobby less accessible and less enjoyable*. I'd wager that most of the folks who are watching Supergirl have never read an issue of the comic, that most folks only know Iron Man as Robert Downey Jr.'s portrayal, and don't realize that Nick Fury was originally a member of the WW II Howling Commandos. *I think that a lot of it was the rise of comic book stores, which needed a way to get people to travel to them, rather than buying the next issue from a spinner rack at the local convenience store.
