  1. I don't know what it means, but when I look up my old house there, it's pixelated out on Google Street View. Maybe, it's afraid that I'm stalking it.
  2. I lived in Florida for almost 10 years, in a small town that's now probably a suburb of Orlando.
  3. They're adding art to the medians of many of our streets. Here's a steampunk squid that I noticed the other day: http://www.paintthisdesert.com/field-notes/category/artists
  4. "Airplane II: The Sequel". Fleeting moments of comedy trapped in a copy of the first movie. I did almost fall asleep partway through, so it might work as a sleep aid.
  5. Look, I get that you don't like the new group policy that locks your workstation after 15 minutes. I even understand your confusion about hitting a key or wiggling a mouse to unblank the computer screen. But do you really need to put in a ticket saying that your computer won't wake up after you shut it down instead of logging out the other day? Or the tickets last week where we remoted in and found nothing wrong? So, your ticket today was demanding a full investigation. That's why you returned to your desk (where you left your computer unlocked again, by the way), and found the workstation removed. I'm running full tests of everything, so that I can "fully investigate" your issue. No, I don't have a "loaner" computer, feel free to use one of the available workstations in your office area. No, I can't really give you an estimate of the time it will take, as we need to do a full hardware scan, and then I'll need to run a full diagnostic on all of the software settings. Oh, I'll also need to go through the various log files, and make sure that there isn't any errors. Heck, if it's really bad, I might just need to fully reimage it, and install all of your programs from scratch. Gosh, with all of the other work on my plate, it could take days to get that workstation back to you.
  6. Exact color palette? You mean like most 4 color comics?
  7. So, the "grasshopper" that one of my cats was trying to catch by her litter box turned out to be a really tiny gecko. I think that it may be a very young western banded gecko hatchling, and it was just a little over an inch and a quarter long. The way it jumped into the plastic cup made me think that it knew that it was being carried to safety, and it's now residing somewhere in the bushes near my front lawn. I didn't get any pictures, mainly because I didn't want to stress it out any more than it was (I believe that it dropped part of its tail during the encounter with the cat). Now, the only strange thing is that this is in the center of the house, away from windows and doors, and is the second time that I've found one there (one was found there last year, also a juvenile). It's possible that they're coming in through the bathroom vent, I guess, but the species isn't known for being a climber.
  8. The local comic book store is only nominally friendly for non-comic nerds. I once inquired about a certain trade paperback, only to be told that they weren't stocking it. I asked about special ordering it, and they asked me if I had a box (no). I couldn't special order without a box. And they didn't have any more boxes available. I couldn't pre-pay, and just pick up later. I ended up ordering it off of Amazon.com. When the store was in another part of town, the owner had a sign on the door basically saying that they didn't stock games, they didn't intend to stock games, and if you were into games, you should go away. If it wasn't a comic from one of the big publishers, they pretty much had never heard of it and had no intention of carrying it ever. I had inquired about PS238 at one point, only to be dismissed because it wasn't a real comic since the owner hadn't heard of it. Oh, and the owner seemed to feel that true comic book fans were only male, and proceeded to ignore the woman I was with (who actually knows more about comics than I do). That only changed in the new store when the owner hired a few extra people, including a woman, to run the significantly larger store. The owner still can't look a woman in the eye, though.
  9. I'm still amazed that a Canipe got in trouble for throwing hors d'oeuvres.
  10. So we have a senior day every week, where folks 50+ can participate in slot tournaments, get free coffee, and get gifts. The music in the casino switches to "oldies", which used to mean hearing stuff from the 50s through 70s, but had been getting a few songs from '80 or '81 recently*. Until today. In a 30 minute period, I heard Madonna's "Papa Don't Preach" (1986), and Simple Minds' "Don't You (Forget About Me)" (1985). I'm now a little bit depressed that music from my high school days is starting to be considered "oldies"**. *Which actually makes sense. It's very likely that someone who graduated from high school in '82 would now be age 50+. **And yes, I'm going to be eligible for 50+ promotions in a few years. I guess that my mental image of myself still has me somewhere in my thirties.
  11. Ironically, I had difficulty upgrading one of the older computers in my house to Windows 10 through the Windows Update tool, and had to download the standalone installer.
  12. We've had 'em for about a week or two at the BK at work, I've tried them, and they're actually pretty good.
  13. Voltron: Legendary Defender on Netflix. Thoroughly enjoyed it, and I'm now anxiously waiting for season 2.
  14. And I get to wait for my new debit card to arrive (5-7 business days), seems that someone tried to buy stuff at an Irvine, CA Wal-Mart with the number. They apparently tried multiple small transactions at the same Wal-Mart, and were shut down on the third one.
