  1. Not a bad finale for what it was. Bring on season 2.
  2. Did we just accidentally turned this into the Flash thread? If only there was a way to move the last half dozen posts intact. Is Simon summoned the same way as Beetlejuice?
  3. I hope this is part of the 'plan' and that they somehow sabotaged the transfer - a trojan virus of a sort that will, under a certain condition, transfer all the speed force back to Barry (and neutralize the velocity-9). If it turns out 'no, really - they hinged everything on the speed dampening bands that other villains have broken out of already and now their backs are against the wall, but don't worry - the heart of a hero and a dues ex machina will save the day!' it will be the first time I've been truly disappointed in the show.
  4. Also, if there's a dancing dog in the competition all other acts, no matter how talented, are toast.
  5. Nice. That's the only picture in the thread that's even remotely weirded me out. I was truly terrified of dark windows as a child - and honestly I still don't particularly like looking out windows at night (but at least now I can): the residual child-fear tells me that something is definitely looking in....
  6. Captain Harlock (2013) Before the movie: "Been meaning to watch this. I loved the ship design when I was a kid and saw it on TV." After the movie: "I love that ship design. ... That is all." To be fair, though, the movie was a little fuzzy. I made the mistake of using my "Anime I Haven't Seen Drinking Game" rules and managed to check off (among other things): Protagonist not the movie title's protagonist? Drink Gratuitous shower scene? Drink Antagonist turns out to be protagonist's brother? Drink Super cool tech used by heroes at start of movie inexplicably doesn't work as well against same enemies next time? Drink Movie title protagonist does nothing until more than halfway into the movie, does something awesome, and then gets captured? Drink Super cool tech is now back to being overpowered against same enemies because its the final act? Drink
  7. I'm just a lucky so-and-so - Duke Ellington
  8. The real question is - if he did run as an independent and (somehow) win the general election will both sides try and appease him so he doesn't use a presidential veto on everything in sight or would they largely ignore him and wait with baited breath to see if he does follow through on any of his campaign stances, such as issuing an illegal order to the military or deporting lawful citizens without cause, so they can impeach him and get it over with?
  9. Canadian official opposition tries to get Prime Minister to denounce Trump as a 'fascist' http://www.ctvnews.ca/politics/ndp-s-mulcair-thinks-trudeau-should-denounce-trump-1.2841067 Yes, Mr Mulcaire. Nothing bad could come of bad mouthing the next potential president of your largest trading partner - especially if your allegations end up being 'true'. That's exactly how international diplomacy works. I know he's just saying it so Canadians remember that his party still exists and to look personally strong before the leadership convention that will in all likelihood see him replaced - but it looks childish and if he'd ended up PM I doubt he'd be saying it at all. This is what Trudeau has said and frankly it's all ANY foreign power has a right to say: "I have great faith in the American people and look forward to working with whoever gets elected in November," said Trudeau, who did not mention the Republican candidate by name. "As we approach November and as we move beyond into the next administration there will be some lessons learned that I hope get learned," he continued. "But like I said, I have tremendous confidence in what Abraham Lincoln referred to as the 'better angels of our nature."
  10. Google "Ellen Page sues" and see what she has to say about this practice (not once but twice).
  11. Silver Banshee's costume looked reasonable to me. Honestly, I like DC's current shows not being afraid to dip deeper into comic book territory than other shows have. In the designing montage that we didn't see I wouldn't be surprised if Siobahn (under the banshee's influence and using the flashes we were shown) wasn't giving suggestions for the face paint. The fact I assumed that the instant she appeared indicates to me that it was a successful homage. Now... how did the super-earplugs stop the plexiglass breaking, Supergirl throwing kinetic aspects of the wail?
  12. I consider last night's episode to be the weakest I can recall seeing in the series. I still enjoyed it quite a bit (which says something) - the banter was great, the lines overall were great, there was nothing wrong with the effects or the acting - I just found the story to be a little weak. The reasons for going, the lack of major changes despite *far* greater interference in events than previous incursions...
  13. I would build Fire Girl with a second multipool with the armor and flight in it. (Truthfully, though, I'd personally take the armor out of it). In my games it's not uncommon at all for people to have two, or even three, multipools - usually something like a 60 point for attacks / special situation attacks (such as a fire blast, a drain that works on fire (to siphon heat), a fireball AoE, a Change Environment to raise heat levels, etc) and then a smaller 40 point for movement and such (though not always - 60 point second pools are not unheard of). As an example there's one character in my game that has basically the adaptive shields of the Borg from Star Trek. His attack pool is 60 points. His secondary pool is also 60 points - and holds all three damage reductions at 75%. After he is attacked (or - if he has foreknowledge of what he'll be facing - before the fight) he switches to whichever fits the circumstances to bolster his Resistant Protection. He's really frigging tough but enemies learn to mix attack types when they engage him (if they can). He still had plenty of points to build the rest of the character because both pools use OIF (his blaster cannon arm for the first pool, his shield generator backpack for the other).
  14. So they kept the curse origin for Silver Banshee after all. Nice. Fun episode sums it up. I can't see it doing anything to spike viewership for either show (there's probably a lot of overlap anyways) but Barry acted exactly like he does in his own show and for any comic crossover in any medium that's always a measure of success for me.
  15. Exactly. A super powered little girl / pre-teen is still a little girl / pre-teen. Frankly, the show's world is lucky she went the 'dutiful daughter' route (probably due to her upbringing on Krypton, which has always portrayed itself as a bastion of science, rational thought, and order) rather than 'you can't tell me what to do!' rebel.
  16. It's a sad state of affairs that one of the biggest plot twists in my current Champion's campaign is that the US government and its superhuman affairs department aren't evil. It broke my player's brains - they spent entire sessions trying to reverse engineer the ulterior motives behind super-powered FBI agents helping them with intel and field assistance in apprehending a very powerful super-villain.
  17. The US government is always like this in comics. Nothing surprising. Though in this case, to be fair, they really did give top secret level clearance and practically unlimited authority to an illegal alien (literally). If I were a doctor trained in India and couldn't get my licence in the US because I wasn't here legally it really wouldn't matter if I was the greatest doctor in the world and had saved hundreds of lives on the operating table when the authorities finally caught up to me. Superman not working for the government because of Cadmus but not doing anything to shut it down annoyed me, as well. I want to dislike Lucy but frankly she hasn't really been wrong - "James" is a jerk when it comes to their relationship.
  18. YES. AS PRACTICE. YOU HAVE TO START OUT LEARNING TO BELIEVE THE LITTLE LIES. "So we can believe the big ones?" YES. JUSTICE. MERCY. DUTY. THAT SORT OF THING. "They're not the same at all!" YOU THINK SO? THEN TAKE THE UNIVERSE AND GRIND IT DOWN TO THE FINEST POWDER AND SIEVE IT THROUGH THE FINEST SIEVE AND THEN SHOW ME ONE ATOM OF JUSTICE, ONE MOLECULE OF MERCY. AND YET—Death waved a hand. AND YET YOU ACT AS IF THERE IS SOME IDEAL ORDER IN THE WORLD, AS IF THERE IS SOME...SOME RIGHTNESS IN THE UNIVERSE BY WHICH IT MAY BE JUDGED. "Yes, but people have got to believe that, or what's the point—" MY POINT EXACTLY.”
  19. I watched less than a minute of that 'trailer' for the first time and counted a dozen things CBS/Paramount are WELL within their rights to challenge the instant any kind of money changes hands. How is this a matter of 'eternal' copy rights? The symbols, races, even set designs are direct infringements on an active IP (shows in the works, movies in the works, even Star Trek Online is a gold mine for keeping IP claims alive - in fact, several of us were pretty sure that the decision to include races and enemies that only appeared a handful of times in the series as major story and plot points was to renew their property leases on said races/characters - pretty much forever as long as the servers stay up. It's genius.)
  20. Wastelander game. Vega (me) has failed his sexual compulsion's self-control roll in a big way (as he usually does) but rolls in such a manner in a bar that he ends up picking up two women and a man and leaving with them despite some hefty penalties. Grim: "I'm beginning to think the only difference between a sleazy pervert and a sex addict is success rate."
  21. A post nuclear 'Fallout' style game I'm in. My character is sex addict with the social skills needed to get a near 100% success rate and while I don't eat up a lot of play time with it in order to not be disruptive the GM always makes sure to include throwaway lines even in travel montages about his conquests and we *have* been run out of town before. Upon reaching a fortification in hostile ghoul territory: Gate Guards: "If you want to stay with the Sewer Rats for the night. You will need to offer trade - or tribute." *everyone at the table immediately looks at me, in character and out* Vega (me): "*sigh* If I must..." (We ended up raiding an abandoned hospital for medical supplies instead) After we headed back and were waiting for entrance Grim (the hardened survivor soldier): "Well, if Kas' (our merchant player character) oral skill doesn't pan out here...."
  22. How did you come up with your 'handle' (forum name)? It was my City of Heroes global handle - I had 27 Brutes on Virtue. It's a play on the title of a techno song popular when I was in Germany (Das Boot - a techno remix of a show theme) What was the first tabletop RPG you played? AD&D 2nd edition. Our first adventure was the Mines of Bloodstone because we all lied and said we'd played before and used characters from 'previous games'. All 20th level Dual Classed with straight 25 stats. And mine was half elf, half ogre. Ah, 11 year olds. What was the first tabletop RPG you GMed? AD&D 2nd edition. My campaign setting had flying islands, tinker gnomes whose inventions worked who had a knock off of the Enterprise-D as their flagship and used RoboCop gnomes as their security. Also sentient tarrasques and a race of magic users ripped directly off from the Haydonites from the Robotech:Sentinels series. Ah, 13 year olds. What are you currently playing/GMing? After a short stint (20 years) of DMing D&D (2nd through 4th) (with far less sentient tarrasques and RoboGnomes as time rolled on. Kept the flying islands, though.) I've been taking a break and running a Champions Complete game. For old times sake it did feature a sentient tarrasque one adventure (A reskinned Grond). With Champions you can get away with 40 being the new 13 from time to time.
