  1. It also underscores, for me, the role Fox News and its brethren play. Their constant promotion of the positions both disseminates and empowers the propaganda.
  2. Ja'Marr Chase is out for Burrow. That's something he's got to get past; the Bengal offense shouldn't slip as much as they have. Another factor...granted, their running game has been poor, but they've only tried to run 9 times...while dropping back 32. (This is just after they got the TD. Bengals have the ball and are burning clock...until just now when they get a bomb to Cooper for ANOTHER 1st and goal. GAME OVER. EDIT: Yep. Chubb blasts through again for another TD, and even Troy says "pretty much good night." 32-6 inside 9 minutes? Oh yeah.
  3. Huh. I'm more prophetic than announcers' jinx.... Raise your hand if you saw 18-0 Browns... EDIT: I totally spaced on the Halloween, MNF, Road Team Jinx. DOH!!!! And I *watched* the '88 Broncos vs. Colts...when Dickerson set the record for points scored, and IIRC, the Colts won 55-0.
  4. Some would be much harder than others, but that's probably at least close to true. Even if there's isolated exceptions, the point's made. My standards would be: --RAW defines it as a Mental Power; also, anything like Mental Entangle, where it's stated to be "as a Mental Power," or Psychokinesis, where the book explicitly notes it's another interpretation. --Uses OMCV for attack, DMCV as the avoidance, or Ego Def as the resistance. Any one of the three may be enough; 2 of the 3 is pretty much a lock. --Frequently described as a mentalist-class power in comics, sci fi, or fantasy. Summons based on charming/mental control, for example. --Relatively easy derivations of TK, like telekinetic blasts --Hmm...one that's a little different, and specific to Hero. If the character has a Power skill, make it based on EGO, not INT. Especially in 6E where you're not getting OMCV and DMCV from that. Things that generally do not fit mental power: --energy manipulation, particularly involving energy creation and distribution. Psionic Lightning Bolt is a major stretch that D&D did, to give psions parity with magical casters. --Teleportation is dicey. Flight can be derived from TK. --Shape shifting. --Duplication...? Full-on bioduplication, no. Construct-style, possibly. --Item creation or alteration. Some of this depends...3E psionic classes have "ectoplasmic manipulation" linked more-or-less to the protomatter of the Ethereal Plane. But again, how much of that was just trying to broaden the appeal, and to make the psion more than the illusionist...another relatively narrow, specialist class? IIRC, ectoplasmic manipulation does have connections through Lovecraft, so it's probably reasonable to incorporate it. When you've got that, then particularly short-lived item creation, and thus construct-style duplication and summoning (critters created from nothing, as opposed to called).
  5. Because given the trends of the last couple years, an infinite lifetime is *worse*. No, I don't care to become a grasshopper. (Or possibly a cicada, depending on the version of the myth.)
  6. I wonder if California law can escalate any or all of these into hate crimes. It might not matter; because he's the spouse of a US official, and the assault caused serious injury (head surgery would automatically count, I would think)...that one's 30 years, in a Federal pen. The attempted kidnapping...I can't offhand tell which sections apply. The state charges are another whole laundry list...the big charge is, of course, attempted homicide (the head blow counts, I think, even if there was no intent to kill), but the ADW and elder abuse are nice tack-ons...up to 4 years each, and when the clear intent is to terrorize, ya gotta figure the sentences for those will be on the harsh side. This is what the far right's been promoting. The ONLY semi-positive angle is, Pelosi's been the main, primary, consistent target for their demonization since Hilary lost, and that's been raised to (anti-) messianic vitriol ever since the Republicans lost the House...but it's *only* been her. I think there've been a couple other issues over the last year to 18 months...but it's encouraging that it takes SO MUCH hate to actually get someone to react with violence. The downsides are, a) the far right will make him a martyr, which will only encourage more incidents, and b) one has to worry if this will act as an 'icebreaker' of sorts. Perhaps not, especially if the first moves slam the jerk in jail *hard*. And some far-right pundits are throwing gasoline on the fire https://www.politico.com/news/2022/10/31/conservatives-disinformation-paul-pelosi-assault-00064208 but hey, that's to be expected. And why I won't vote for a single Republican for anything at any level for the foreseeable future. Not that most of the name politicians are embracing these stories, but a few are...and there's nowhere NEAR enough denouncement of those making the comments.
  7. So, Biden owns the DoJ? Or there are 2 of em, one of which he runs? Like the story, hate the headline and lead. it's HIGHLY counterproductive to make it about the current president.
  8. ohhhh...think that's why they got picked???? EDIT: ok, no choice, it's MNF or bust. Astros-Phils postponed.
  9. Between those 2, yeah, quite possible. I only went with the digital aspect, but didn't spring for anything more. Cable bill's crazy high as it is. So...Browns-Bengals or Astros-Phillies tonight? Considering that MNF may be over before halftime, that'll probably be relegated to getting streamed. OOPS!!! Take that back. Rain in Philly. Talks are ongoing about full postponement..which you know they HATE to do in the postseason...but rain's forecast through the evening, apparently. Yeah, this doesn't look good -- forecast from CBS News Philadelphia: Well, the good news is, the Bengals have a very appropriate color scheme for Halloween!
  10. Not working that way for me. Do you have an ESPN+ subscription? Yes, then streaming through Xfinity is free...but that's not the same thing.
  11. On my computer? It's requiring a password and a $10/month subscription...not my cable login. For 1 game, even 1 month is foolish. And this is atop TNF and Amazon Prime. People want it included in packages they've already paid for...their TV service. They don't view it as advertising, they view it has holding the fans hostage to make them pay for it. So where does this end, from their perspective? The league is finding out that their greed is creating resentment. NOTE: I also tried to go through Xfinity to see if I could get ESPN+ set up. AWKWARD!!!! Verify sign-in? HATE that...understand why, but hate it. Xfinity's main page is confused. Yeah, it's annoying, if I was just trying to watch a game I want to watch. And I've definitely felt annoyed when I have to jump through a bunch of hoops to stream a game. Trying to stream through a smart TV is also CLUMSY. And don't even THINK about mentioning watching it on the app. That's an absolute, total, complete non-starter for football. On my iPad? NO. FAR too small. Not happening EVER.
  12. Kind of a sloppy 4th quarter, but I think the Bills relaxed quite a bit. They never felt threatened deep, so the Packers were never gonna get quick scores. A little diversion...pick the first team to clinch a playoff berth. Eagles are 4 up in the loss column to clinch a WC berth; Vikings are 4 up in the loss column for their division. I'll take Philly; the Vikes have Washington, Bills, Cowboys, Pats, and Jets for their next 5. Vikes beat Miami...but the other 5 wins? Pack, Bears, Cards, Lions, and Saints, all under .500.
  13. Holy cow.......we don't see the start of things, but I'm not sure it matters here. And that, apparently was not the only incident; it's reported there was another, and that 1 player...dunno if it's this one, or the other...may have a broken nose. Yeah, criminal charges are warranted. There are at least a couple MSU players who stand out in the vid; they should be suspended immediately. Not dismissed from the team *yet*, but suspended. EDIT: now Monday morning. MSU suspended 4 players from the team last night. EDIT 2: Tuesday. One of the Michigan players has a concussion. I suspect that would make the crime felony assault. At least one player's family has retained an attorney. Jim Harbaugh's demanding criminal charges. The MSU player suspensions are until the criminal, program, and conference investigations are complete...and that will likely be awhile, with significant civil and criminal proceedings clearly on the table.
  14. The advantage of STR at range would be that you're starting from a higher baseline, and that you can increase STR by multiple means. This lets you play some fairly abusive END games. Also, the cost for Reduced END is based on the END for the base STR. Yes, you have to account for the increased END, but 30 STR, usable at range, 1/2 END would be 30 + 15 + 7, 52. 30 STR TK, 1/2 END is 45 + 11, 56. And if you want full manipulation, it's 55 + 14, 69. NOW we're talking a major point cost difference. NOTE: costs are per 6E, just to be clear. The advantages of TK are multiple: --Indirect...source is you, but path is any. --No set origin points. --effectively infinite extra limbs...not restricted to hands/feet --aspects of AoE: while it's not necessarily enforced, trying to lift a car by STR alone is nowhere near as simple as sometimes portrayed. There are structural issues. TK can be 'wrapped' over the surface so there's no single stress points. Note that my favorite "HTH" build goes with STR, and Extra Limbs with Stretching. In 6E, the limbs are a flat 5 points. Stretching is fairly cheap, and you get several 'free' limitations (no non-combat stretching, limited body parts, and no stretching velo damage are easy; plus, to be seriously EVIL, you can buy additional STR, only with extra limbs. This also gives you attacks within your Stretching range...with no range mods.
  15. No. The fundamental notion, I suspect, behind the base senses being free has to do with "what is the baseline, 0 points spent, normal human?" Do you really want to say he's deaf and blind, has 0 in all stats, etc. etc.? That's highly distorted. "You don't get something for nothing" is a misnomer. It's more like "you can't claim anything that others don't have, for no points." "Points must be equal" applies to points spent...not to things established as the baseline. The fact that you can sell back basic stats really has nothing to do with anything...at least in part, because of HOW you sell them back. As Complications...the means for a reduction from the baseline. Telekinesis is both more and less than "STR at range" similar to how Mental Blast is more than "Blast, AVAD vs. Mental Def." Clairsentience is expensive, sure...but doing it as its own power generally should make for a more easily defined and balanced power. Trying to say "oh it's a sense with some Mods and advantages"...tends to be a kludge. Consider trying to drop Regen, and just use Constant Healing...there's numerous kludges to address, as long as you're actually using RAW.
  16. They were put out of our misery. Cancer: well, it is that time of year. Altho associating Bach with a pagan holiday would have him rolling in his grave.
  17. Bolsonaro's antics, and presumably gross mishandling of the pandemic...Brazil's acknowledged deaths from Covid are second only to the US, and it's pretty commonly believed their numbers grossly undercount...have led him to lose the vote count in Brazil. Now, whether this makes him leave office remains to be seen...
  18. When the writers actively dislike the source, they're far more likely to try to reconstruct it. How often does that work? And even if they can't get their way, it makes for terrible team dynamics...because it shows. Oh, I can definitely believe the writing's not exactly top-drawer. The original stories came from Polish fantasy...how many of us have ever read those? So I'd presume that the characters are as per the video games. Characterization is VERY likely to be......thin. Quite plausibly less than you need. That said: fine, there's lots to expand, but that doesn't mean radical departures.
  19. Adding to the torture of being a Rockies and Broncos fan....that would be excessive.........
  20. I hope, earnestly, you don't have to delete this comment.
  21. <BLEEP>ing idiot. The Nets might not be in a great place to do much, but he had endorsement deals with Nike and Pepsi. I'm not sure if he still does; his stunt last year alienated plenty of people. But after this, ya gotta figure if they bailed on Kanye? They'll bail on him. Actually, it's plausible the Nets will bail on him; he's in the last year of his deal, so it might be acceptable to swallow $30M in dead money. The idiot's probably made himself nearly unsignable...not just from this, but this might be the straw that breaks the camel's back. Let's hope. And the Nets are 1-5. They were described as a disaster, not a team...or something like that, I don't recall exactly. And getting worse. They're showing the same problems...next to last in defensive rating. If they stay on their present course, I could see major moves by Thanksgiving...like cutting Irving. Figure that Nash's future is tenuous, but I'd also point the finger squarely at whomever signed Kyrie and Simmons. If they're even still there. Lakers are a disaster too...not quite the same flavor, but Mostly Hopeless. Some writers say it's a bright spot that LBJ and AD are averaging a ton, but I look at it the other way: DESPITE their play, they're losing all the time. So how bad do they lose if either one has an off-game? SCARY!!! fact for Laker fans...they're 2nd in the league on defense, but 0-5...AND AD and LBJ are averaging almost 50 a game, each playing 35 minutes a game. AD has too much of an injury history to make anyone sanguine with that, and LBJ is too old to do that all year...he has faded in the past.
  22. Just switched to it. 2 HUGE!!! mistakes on one play. Inside 20 seconds, up 6...and the Falcons give up a 62 yard TD? Massive mistake somewhere...shades of, what was it, Broncos-Ravens, IIRC. Then, the receiver, after the TD, takes off his helmet on the field of play. Illegal. Celebration foul, 15 yards on the extra point. Makes it a 45 yard attempt. It drifts left...not clear it would've been good from 30, but it's also a different kick from 30. So it's a tie game, and goes into OT. Shows me why these teams are 5-9 combined. OT gets booted by the afternoon slot. I'll root for the tie, but won't hold my breath.
  23. I think the walking guy's gonna claim it. The BRONCOS go 80 yards in 2 minutes for a go-ahead TD? Yeah. There's shameful, and there's that........ I think I said, Hackett might well be gone if he lost today. BUT, if there's any substance to that, well, the plank he's on is getting sawn through as we speak in any case. Eagles look scary good. Score suggests the Raiders look scary bad. Detroit gets the early Turkey Day game...well, it'll be entertaining. 31-27 Fins, very early 4th. ONE punt so far. One TO. 10 scores. Jets gonna Jet. Thrown 3 picks in, for them, what I like to call a contender-pretender game...which they're losing, which suggests pretender. Panthers have tied the Falcons...go Panthers! If they can sneak this one out...the Saints are beating the Raiders comfortably...every team in the NFC South will be 3-5. There really should be a rule that a division winner doesn't automatically get a playoff berth, if they're below .500...........
  24. Not as written. Per RAW: The Discriminatory effect provided by the <X> Group is not the full Discriminatory obtained by buying that Sense Modifier, but rather an effect of somewhat cruder degree. and Characters can make Normal <X> (or the entire <X> Sense Group) fully Discriminatory by paying the usual cost. Sight, touch and hearing have a lesser form of Discriminatory. The book examples: --hearing...can tell a bird's song from a trumpet; can't necessarily distinguish between the bird calls of diff species. Discrim would; Analyze likely would mean distinguishing between 2 birds of the *same* species. --Sight's example is bad. Can tell 2 people apart...but can't tell ethnicity or religion. Barring specific markers, that's true no matter what. --Touch isn't a lot better, as it says you can't tell a $1 bill from a $5 bill *by touch*. DUH!!! I wouldn't expect to, at least not without Analyze. It's not relief, as on a coin. That said, it feels like they're seriously splitting hairs where they'd likely be better off NOT doing that, but what they give with Discriminatory is quite a bit. Their Detect Metals example: Discrim gives you a pretty accurate general composition, Analyze a *detailed* one, including fairly low-abundance ones. Not necessarily TINY amounts...from the Wikipedia article, the average composition of granite is SiO2 72.04% (silica) Al2O3 14.42% (alumina) K2O 4.12% Na2O 3.69% CaO 1.82% FeO 1.68% Fe2O3 1.22% MgO 0.71% TiO2 0.30% P2O5 0.12% MnO 0.05% When you're getting down to the phosphorus and manganese, you might need Microscopic. Normal air might be worse; carbon dioxide is 400 parts per million. Worse: helium is about 5 parts per million, and methane (fortunately) is about 2 parts per million. Even with purely normal Sight...there's arguably 6 "white metals" in jewelry: cobalt-chrome, steel, platinum, and silver, and with white gold there's regular white gold (albeit of course, the composition matters), and there's white gold that's been rhodium-plated (pretty common). (Titanium isn't a white metal, it's gray.) When they're all polished, to a similar level...even an amateur can distinguish silver. Clearly, the rhodium plating creates some visual alteration over the typical 75-25 (silver) 18K white gold. I think someone decently trained can tell many of these apart with at least fair accuracy. I knew my mother's 2 rings weren't gold...they were platinum. I'm no expert, either. So why NOT just simplify everyone's lives and just give the 3 senses the full modifier??? Cuz they want Analyze to be expensive. SILLINESS.
