  1. Re: A DC Animated-style HeroMachine Yet another winner from the wonderful world of anime.
  2. Re: A DC Animated-style HeroMachine If someone already said this, forgive me, but try the following: Go to Google. Paste 'Fábrica de Heróis' (minus quotes, of course) into the search box. On the appropriate hit, instead of clicking the main link, click "translate this page." It's never a perfect translation, but it's a far cry better than La Portuguese. That said, I'm going to now dig into it. I toyed with the idea of making one of these with a friend back when I was into making DCU-type pics and HeroMachine was first out. I decided that all the effort would be likely to get my butt sued. I'm gonna enjoy this, I think. If it's not perfect, it'll at least make for a good shortcut tool when making my own images. Edit: The translated page will not have the actual character creation tool on it. You'll have to keep two copies of the page open if you want the instructions in semi-English.
  3. Re: "Neat" Pictures OMG...the perfect woman. Flexible, and no ability to nag. Ex-wife #3 here I come...
  4. Re: "Neat" Pictures Obviously. London Bridge fell down.
  5. Re: "Neat" Pictures Very cool to live in a place with so much history.
  6. Re: "Neat" Pictures The rest of us are scared into silence. Count yourself lucky to have escaped with your life. You're a fool to mock the zombie-bunnies.
  7. Re: Help with Islanders Funny...usable by others Luck. Perfect. Funny, I had the impression you were one of the non-HERO gamer forum members. HEROphiles in Hawaii seem few and far between. We've had trouble finding players.
  8. Re: Help with Islanders There have been a lot of comments here about real-world anthropological facts, and some are refreshingly accurate considering how little most people understand about the Pacific. However, even though I grew up and live in Hawaii, and much of my college education was on anthropology of Pacific cultures, I say forget the facts, baby. You've obviously decided to mix a lot of very different cultures into your setting, including the most salacious parts of each. I see bits of Melanesian, Micronesian, Southeast Asian, and Polynesian all represented. I would take that a step further and instead just go all-fantasy with an Oceanic feel. I assume that your campaign will take place in a fictional land, so I suggest that you forget about accuracy, picture in your mind's eye what would be cool in a pulp-ish kind of way, use the real stuff only for inspiration, and go for it. Anthropological accuracy in this campaign would likely be lost on your players, and would probably restrict the fun. Specific suggestions for coolness and playability: - If, as I assumed, you'll have a fictional setting, come up with your own names for the weapons, armor, titles, people, etc. so that they have a more consistent sound within each of your setting's cultures. One good way to do so is to Google up a list of baby names for a particular Oceanic language (like Samoan), name all your stuff for one group using the sounds and words found there, then Google up a name list in another language (Tagalog?) and do another group. - Sort the weapons and armor into "styles," and assign them to your different tribes, cultures, or species. For example, one could be all about sharktooth-edged weapons and crocodile leather, another could use elaborately carved club weapons and masks, and yet another could have an elaborate "men's code" fighting style that restricts them to the use of tripping weapons and elaborate unarmed techniques. Forget about anthropological precision; make them cool and distinct from each other.
  9. Re: Help with Islanders Shadowpup, How come you didn't suggest they have the Psych Lim; 'Foolishly Hang Out in Doorjambs'?
  10. Re: Some GMing Advice? Please I suggest you come up with a very short list of simple and well-focused campaign types that everyone can digest in a few sentences. It helps if they're blatantly stolen from sources you and your characters know well. Take a vote on which one they would enjoy best, then make the characters on the first game night. I also strongly suggest that you design things so that the characters are already in a group or organization when you build them, and that they all have a strong common background element and motivation. Examples: 1) X-Men the movie style...All "mutants" or something similar (smaller cast of characters than the film), all affiliated with a "mutant school" of some sort, and all dealing with both evil "mutants" and the fact that the world at large hates and fears them. 2) Super Teens...as in 'Sky High.' Everyone is in the same High School for kids who might get powers. They deal with teen issues that are complicated by their powers (like dating and bullies), while called upon occasionally to fight criminals. Secret ID issues are optional here. 3) Power Rangers style...The players each got called upon by a mysterious powerful being to help fight the evil menace from wherever. They get a common theme, but each with his own specialty powers or weapons. The mentor being zaps them to his secret hideout when their 'troubalert' goes off. This one is great and easy, and the basic style can be used for many different and easy origins, like the 'Four Elementals,' the 'Zodiac' (archenemies are the signs not used by the players), etc. The preceding examples are good because they would give you and your players a focus when creating their characters, they'd give them an idea of what to expect and how to react appropriately, they'd eliminate the need for awkward "getting the team together" sessions, and they will provide you with easy inspiration for plots and villains. Good luck and have fun!
  11. Re: Taipan...wow! Ooooh! I wanna fight too! Which one of you is tougher? (I need to know so I can pick the correct side.)
  12. Re: Taipan...wow!
  13. Re: Taipan...wow! In my opinion, character design is less about point efficiency and more about making the character play the way he's conceptualized. Often (and usually) a build is better when it's not 'munchkin-ized.'
  14. Re: The Things I've Learned Playing a Var.Power-Pool User Bingo. Very succinctly put.
  15. Re: The Things I've Learned Playing a Var.Power-Pool User I've learned that GMs are unlikely to allow you to apply to your control cost the Limitation -1/2 Fellow players are especially impatient. ...But sometimes it feels like they should.
  16. Re: Thanks from a GM I'll join in the collective back-patting. I have gotten a lot out of these boards myself. That's why I try to share as much as I can...to earn what I get from the rest of ya. And like Golden Age, I've been helped through some rough times by the escapism of these boards and the warmth and civility of the community's members. I endured a nasty and heartbreaking divorce, and this was often a therapeutic retreat for me.
  17. Re: "Neat" Pictures Mutant? Guard? Sorry, I was distracted.
  18. Re: "Neat" Pictures I would try this, but I'd have to pee about halfway through. Perhaps something similar could be improvised. Now that I think of it, we can't really say for sure that he hasn't set up something down south there...
  19. Re: Game Maps and Counters Exchange Thanks for taking the time to give a review. I may wanna get this for Xmas.
  20. Re: Game Maps and Counters Exchange About Dunjinni...is it a real easy and quick 'drag-and-drop' type interface? I love being creative, but I'd only buy it if it was something that could make attractive maps like you did in a snap.
  21. Re: Name that Nazi! There was a Nazi superduo 'Night and Fog' back in (IIRC) 'All Star Squadron.' That name set is a no-brainer, though, because of the real history behind the term, so I would use it at will.
  22. Re: "Neat" Pictures Sorry for the annoying tangent!
