  1. Re: WWYCD 101:A question of faith Leatherback - Beyond praying for the souls of these poor, misguided heathens? Prevent the party from interfering. And only the Stormlord has the power to go through him. The Specter – Would try to see the sacrifice alone long enough to answer one question. “Is this what you want?” If the answer is no, a rescue is required, and damn the consequences. If the answer is yes, then he’d drug the drinks of his fellow team members, and forcibly subdue those who are unaffected. He has little patience for these “young-un’s” and is all too familiar with the effects of cultural imperialism. Whisper – would be lynched after asking is he could have the leftovers.
  2. Re: Quote of the Week from my gaming group... I was playing the ship’s A.I. in a high-point GURPS Space campaign, when were forced to sabotage and destroy a vessel containing over a thousand crew members. As the rest of the PCs watched the explosion on the screens, this conversation ensued. Note: All A.I.s have a hardwired destabilization program that specifically destroys their central personality matrix if activated. (Thank you very much, Mr. Gibson.) A.I.: It’s… it’s beautiful. Doctor: That’s horrible! There where over a thousand men and women aboard that vessel, and you call their deaths beautiful? Captain: That’s it! Where’s that shotgun code? A.I.: You can’t see this as I do and I can’t explain it to you. The best I can do is this. Do you know Michaelangelo’s work at the Sistine Chapel, on Holy Terra? Well imagine, if you will, someone shows it to you, but only all the red light. And then only the orange. Then yellow, green, blue, indigo and finally violet. Could you truly comprehend it’s beauty? It’s majesty? No, of course not. Now I see everything around this ship in a multi-layered, 3-dimensional image of electromagnetic wavelengths starting from the low radio to the far gamma, highlighted by neutrinos, shaded by tachyons and accented by gravitic waves. Where I can perceive a wavelength range if 1x10 (to -11) to 1x10 (to -1), you are limited to 4x10 (to -7) to 7x10 (to -7). So trust me when I say, “ooh, pretty!†Captain & Doctor in unison: Shotgun.
  3. Re: Brainstorm: The Black Paladin Recruits! Shades of Black? Is that a separate adventure, or is that in one of the numerous books?
  4. I'm going ahead with some stuff from the plot seed thread, and I realised that I have one problem with my scenario... I have no idea as to who would make up the Black Paladin's "loyal knights." Any suggestions?
  5. Re: from little plot seeds, mighty games do grow: Share you ideas! Thank you kindly, Lord Liaden. One of my PCs has taken her as a hunted, and this gives me some ideas. He's also hunted by Zerstoiten himself, but that's another story. Never even heard of the book, but then again, books don't really get advertised well here, Down-under.
  6. Re: from little plot seeds, mighty games do grow: Share you ideas! Entry moved here.
  7. Re: WWYCD choosing between two villains to stop?
  8. Re: Needing some help with the numbers. Summoned vehicle, even. But some concept really do require certain point levels, and having seen the show, this is probably one of them. Hint to those who haven't seen the show: Think a Guyver who can fly at great speed and survive in space, and you're getting close. If you are unaware of either of these, I hereby brand you a heathen, and recomend that you hunt one of the shows down, or better yet, the Manga. Both are still available as TP.
  9. Re: Quote of the Week from my gaming group... GUPRS Fantasy. The PCs are at the closing of a Tournament, and they have just been hired by the Queens champion when the the anouncements begin. Anouncer: And to Stewart DeLancey, the King awards one of his prize mares. Doomed PC: Not the Queen! Queen's Champion: *Quickdraw sword, critical hit, location 5 (head), result 3 (instant death), quickdraw hankerchief (I kid you not), wipe sword clean.* (Everything the Queen's Champion did was in a single GURPS combat round. i.e. 1 second.)
  10. Re: PRIMUS or UNTIL Do I want this explained to me? I have used UNTIL on occassion, mostly as an information source, and as back-up when the PCs take on villainous agencies, like VIPER or DEMON, or a villain with agents on call like Professor Muerte, (who I miss). PRIMUS, on the other hand, is an agency I use quite often, only the PCs never have realised it. I rolled the MIB into PRIMUS, and pretty much every MIB that appears is a PRIMUS investigative agent.
  11. Re: Call Captain Planet! Thank you for that insightfull whine about a show that, by your own admission, you have seen very little of. In fact, from you last paragraph, it sounds like you came to the show determined to confirm what other people had told you. Now that I've covered whine, let's get to insight. The show was unusual in that it was an American production that portayed Americans in a rather (undeserved) poor light. It also had a stereotypical Russian leggy blonde who simply HAD to have supressed feelings for the aforementioned Yank. Mantis, nice set of "polluting elements."
  12. Re: Not Quite WWYCD: "Dude, you stole my shtick!"
  13. Re: Call Captain Planet! I think the show's writers went with deforestation because that ring was given to Luten Plunder. (Wikipedia is down, so I can't check the spelling on the name right now.)
  14. Re: WWYCD: The Vanishing!!!??!!! Then to keep it "in genre", one of the PC's has to petulantly cry, "Why wasn't I invited? Waaah!":D Er-hem... back to topic. I once had a powersuited character called Bastion. He was also a powersuited villain called Warpath, who secretly had a robot stand-in for him self. His response would be to immediately detonate the micro-nukes on all the gear he had supplied the fellow PC's, and declare himself supreme overlord of the world. But you get that from time-to-time.
  15. Re: Fun commercials And yet, no GM will let me play Three-piece. I once had a power-suited hero with his own line of polishing goods.
  16. Re: Quote of the Week from my gaming group... Said by Half-Demon Sorceror to Half-Daemon Mystic-Warrior: "I'm not evil, but I do a damned good impression." Wierd team. Of 4 members, we had 2 humans over 3 members.
  17. Re: WWYCD: The Vanishing!!!??!!! Here's an interesting twist: It's happened in a "Maho-Shoujo/Magical-Girl" style universe, where all supers are mystically bestowed representatives of various gods/ideals/elemental forces, and if are unable to perform these duties, the next in line gets empowered. The question expands to "...and why haven't the next in line been tapped?" Note to self: I really shouldn't read Sailor Moon fanfic for 3 hours before comming here...
  18. Re: Not Quite WWYCD: "Dude, you stole my shtick!" Now we're getting somewhere. Rage, I like the idea of taking the "fake" under tutelage, provided they are up to scratch of course. Trebuchet, you have two very good points. 1. Having 2 Spectors around might be usefull. For one, every time the true Spector comes out of retirement, he has to rebuild the trust of the public, and of the authorities. He has to regain the fear and respect of his foes. So, the appearance of a second Spector would mean that there's something new and exciting about doing so this time around. 2. The Spector has had different powers each time (At least to public perception). The only way to prove that he was the true Spector would be to diplay all the powers. Extra Info on The Spector. The Spector is a mutant who was born in Kentucky, in 1844. He served in the Confederate army during the 2nd American Revolution, and during this, he discovered his amazing ability to supress his fear response. He also began to note that he was needing less food, water and sleep than his fellow soldiers, an ability that is the present day means that his daily biological needs are now weekly. During the period immediately following the war, he began to face off against bandits and renegade soldiers as a masked man that the journalists dubbed the Spector. Over the decades, he has discovered that he has the ability to manipulate his metabolism in various ways, and studied Okinawan Karate from a old foe from WWII.
  19. Re: Not Quite WWYCD: "Dude, you stole my shtick!" The irony is not lost on me, in fact my original post refers to it directly. In fact, it clearly makes the situation even worse. But the conundrum is what to do about it, yes?
  20. Re: WWYCD: The Vanishing!!!??!!! Leatherback: Rejoice, for now he can focus on his studies to enter into the priesthood. But he would mourn the loss of one of his few friends, Bulldozer. (Yes, him.) The Spector: Would just keep on doing what he's always done, help out where he can. More than a century as a masked-man gives him an interesting perspective. Whisper: *thought* Waaah! All the yummiest food is gone. Now the only food left is stuff people will tell him off for eating.
  21. Re: WWYCD choosing between two villains to stop? Leatherback: Would try to finish the confrontation with minor villain quickly, so as to get to major villain and get to eat his cake and eat it. This would probably entail using his rapid attack:HtH skill to continually do grab-by/throw combo's on the minor villain, in the direction of the major villain. Wouldn't contact his team-mates because he only has confidence in one of them, and the Stormlord is difficult to contact in the middle of a fight (not to mention suffers from a condition that means once the Stormlord is in a fight, the fight is all he can think about, ie. enraged in combat.) The Spector: Would try to resolve the minor quickly, then hyperboost over to the major villain. Sometimes, have a combat speed of 75 kph for up to a minute is handy. If the major villain too far away for that, then would simply focus on the minor villain. One of his quotes is "Do the good you can. Very few can heal an entire world." Whisper: Thought process= Food that's here now vs. food that's gotten away before. (Although, with the assupmtion that Whisper went looking for the major villain, clearly this is very tasty food.) An reserve character of mine is called three-piece. Always-on duplication means that it's VERY hard to keep him adequately distracted. Curiously, only one GM sited that as the reason they won't let me play him. All others have stated that they simply find the idea of a Stock Broker and Lawyer, (in the vein of the worst of the '80's), who can be in 3 places at once, to be more than a little disturbing.
  22. Re: WWYCD: "Dude, you stole my shtick!" Funny, I also have an old character code-named Bunny. She was a member of the 'Frisco Angels, an all female super-team. A TPO weapons expert, her name was an obvious play on "Gun Bunny". One of the other team members had the "embraces being a sex object" in the bag, but it was mine that posed for playboy, go figure.
  23. Re: Not Quite WWYCD: "Dude, you stole my shtick!"
  24. Re: Not Quite WWYCD: "Dude, you stole my shtick!" Only, this would be the first time there have been two individuals with the same costume (contemporary formal wear, black leather gloves, and a red hood with black diamonds over eyes) going by the name, The Spector. Not to mention that The Spector has on every continent, except Antarctica. Not to mention the embroidered, silk hankerchief that he leaves behind as an ego signature. If the other Spector is doing this, it'll really grate. The problem is, how to prove that you are the One-True, when people think it's been at least 5 other people before you?
  25. Hermit's question got me thinking, and I'll admit that I'm stumped. Here's what my reply was... As you can see, I didn't actually answer the question. I stated the added complications for the character, but not what my character would do. The problem is, I don't know, and I suspect that my GM lurks these boards for ideas. So, err...
