  1. Re: Need help with...The List... Poor, poor Professor Muerte. Oh, wait.. hand on. Lord Liaden, to whom were you referring?
  2. Re: WWYCD if a supers-eating wave swept reality? And still no feedback on whether or not the Time machine base built from several million points would work...
  3. Re: Need help with a name. Hecate was the Titaness from Greek myth that Zeus learned most of his magic from, and she specialized in magic that controlled or transformed the body. It fits with the character's powers and Greek fetish, and is also a minor icon among some Goths. It would also make things very interesting (in the Chinese sense) if the real deal ever showed up.
  4. Re: Quote of the Week from my gaming group...
  5. Re: Wolfs, Dogs And Their Noses And points go to Bigdamnhero (repped). SFX vs. Game Effects is one of my favorite rattles to shake at players and GMs alike, and here he is beating some sense into my head with it. Yes, a canine should have discriminatory. Doh!

  7. Re: Anywhere but your own country If you can fnd them, try to get a series of documantaries called "The Secret KGB (insert subject) Files", hosted by Roger Moore. Such subjects range form (these I have in my collection) UFO, Paranormal, UFO abduction, and (not in my collection, but have watched) sex and JFK assassination. They're all actually quite interesting.
  8. Re: What Would Your Character See? Whisper would find himself in a frilly, pink world wearing a bonet while sitting at a table being served tea. The nighmare would be that no matter how much he wanted to stop inside, he would give the appearances of enjoying it. Trapped within his own non-body, he would scream soundlessly. As for overcomming it, the binding magic means that he cannot harm Bethany, and she does so like to play dress-up with Mr. Whisper. (i.e. "Been There, Played That.") The Specter finds himself strapped to a cold, metalic table, with small tubes sticking into him all around his body. He is unable to move. Then he sees a young lady in a lab coat noting the reading ov one of the various machines that surrounds him and she says, "Don't worry my many-times great Grand-Papa. Soon we will all be a family again." He would probably try to talk to this obviously deranged woman, but other than that, the poor sod is pretty easily caught in pulp-era traps. (As for overcomming his fear, his default power makes him "fearless".)
  9. Re: Quote of the Week from my gaming group... In our last shadowrun session, we were hired to bodyguard a city councilman while a second team found his daughter, who was being held for ransom. GM (As officious and snobby NPC): I'm not going to allow myself to be seen in public with this, this... riff-raff! Mr. Smith (My character's partner): Are you Riff or Raff? Mr. Jones (Me): Oh, I'm Raff, Riff couldn't make it. Bonus points to the first person to correctly identify where we ripped that antique gag from.
  10. Re: Wolfs, Dogs And Their Noses You missed what I was saying, but perhaps I wasn't clear enough. Put it this way. Anything a dog's nose can detect, so can ours. It's just that a dog needs only a couple of scent molocules for any given scent. We can sense the same range (level of discrimination), but a dog is better at it.

  12. Re: WWYCD if a supers-eating wave swept reality? While my earlier post was favorable of this thread, Robyn, I have to agree with everybody’s displeasure. I liked exploring what my character would do in a situation where he had to choose between death, or life as one of the masses. But that scenario could have been described differently. The problem with this scenario is that it defeats the purpose of playing a superhero campaign, by removing the super element. Yeah, we can run around creating Fallout-style vaults to preserve the past for future generations, but when all is said and done, there is no sign of reward for the players. We play these games to play larger than life characters in larger than life situations, but your scenario doesn't give any real sign of being able to continue it. As for thinking outside the box... how’s this? Build a base. In game mechanics, convince as many people, super or otherwise, to invest in a base. Said base has EDM, usable by a hideous amount of mass and people (I'm thinking enough for the entire solar system, including all inhabitants, sans Sol), backwards through time, to any location. Target an empty single-star system several millions years ago, whose primary was at that time a stable GV5 star, of one solar mass. All build with one charge that takes several million years to recover. Also give the base regeneration to account for auto-repair/maintenance. I guarantee that the majority of the worlds super-geniuses would be glad to collaborate on it’s design.
  13. Re: Anywhere but your own country Exactly! Oooh! Dammit! I owe you for this one!
  14. Re: WWYCD: A spooky ghost The Specter would look for the "punk" under the sheet. If actually intangible, tell it off for being so immature, and lecture it on the responsibilities of power under the assumption that it is a very immature super. He just wouldn't believe that a ghost would act like that.
  15. Re: Collateral damage from missed attacks +20 Dex, Only for Initiative (-1), only for the first segment of combat (-2), only for movement actions used to escape combat zones (-1). Real Cost: 12 points. You could have it as the signature power of "The Survivalist!"
  16. Re: WWYCD: Discovering the nature of reality? Whisper - would kill me, no question. Unless Bethany was also brought along. If she was, and Whisper found out that Bethany was my idea, he would want to ensure that my life was one opf eternal torment. The Specter - would ask why the hell I decided to have him nearly sleep with his own daughter. He would then beat the crap out of me when my only answer would be "so I could sick the von Helsing line onto you..." Me - "Oops." And keep going as I have always done. Through adversity, we grow, and any bad stuff I inflict upon my characters is always in backstory. I prefer to play characters from the point of "I'm finally starting to get it together and now have a genuine opportunity at happiness." Okay, in Whisper's case, I am limited by properly playing his psychlims.
  17. Re: Collateral damage from missed attacks Try having a group of PCs in which the majority have 6-10 DC AoE Killing Attacks, and aren't afraid to use them.
  18. Re: WWYCD: A spooky ghost Whisper - "Beat it, this is my gig!" *Splooorch!*
  19. Re: Wwycd #567419845626 And yet people also relpy to the WWYCD threads, indicating that they are reasonably popular. It's also not always the same crowd. With each I have tried to think about the situation provided honestly, and if I feaal that I have come up with a accurate response, I provide it. Another reason for some of these threads is for a GM who is thinking about placing their own PCs in these situations. Our replies give them a valuable tool which enables them to be better prepared for some of the likely responses. I know that sometimes I have been completely blindsided by the response of my PCs, on occasion, and it has taken everything I have just to keep my mind on track, which is not a good place to GM from.
  20. Re: Anywhere but your own country I would prefer Japan. Traditionalism vs. Modernism, where bigotry and small mindedness can be found in the most unexpected places, but acceptance can also be found amongst some of the most traditional people. And, it would have to be one of the next largest sources of core source materials. To answer Rapier's question, I would have to agree that it is simply because of the U.S.A. centered nature of the majority of sourcebooks, but I would have to agree with the owner of a rival game company that the U.S.A. is pretty much the center of the modern superhero. And, it is the largest market, so there's good business sense there. Hell, at least HERO bothers to put out at least one book to give an idea of what is happening around the globe. Said rival never printed one since the first "unlimited" (hint, hint) came out. It's nice to have a game company realize that there IS a world outside the continental U.S.
  21. Re: Wwycd #567419845626 Actually, I find the WWYCD threads to be helpful. It helps me think further about the characters that I'm playing, giving me insights into their personalities through situations that I may never have considered. I will not add to the whole "If you don't like them, don't read them" arguments, as they are redundant. You're a Gamer. Specifically a HERO Gamer. This means that you are possessed of capable intellect. I suggest you exercise it. Crap, or get off the pot. Whisper - would really wish that Bethany would let him feed off of whoever is asking all these questions, but would answer anyway. "It's only polite, Whisper." " Yes, Mistress." The Specter - grateful for a chance to exercise his mind, and maybe come up with solutions that will be ready to mind if similar situations actually arise.
  22. Re: Not quite a WWYCD: YWUA your PC... Whisper and the Specter - Okay. Plus side, I'm immortal. Me as Whisper - I'm now an life force vampire who's bound to a sickeningly innocent 12yr old girl. Kill me now. Okay, the ability to fly and move through non-opaque solids is knida cool, but all in all, this sucks. Whisper as Me - Hopefully he eventually realizes that he needs to eat normal food and doesn't knock himself out (or kill me/himself) trying to walk through glass sliding doors. And after a couple of attempts to feed through his normal means, I'm going to find myself strapped to a bed when I return. Me as the Specter - I would crap myself immediately. I don't have anywhere near the level of skill and experience to face off against the enemies the Specter has accumulated over 150 years. I would seek out the party wizard and explain to him what has happened, but the likely response would be "Oh, so you've been ripped from your reality and don't know how to return? Welcome to my life. At least you ended up in a world inhabited by your own species." And more self-indulgent moping would ensue. The Specter as Me - Not immortal and less control over metabolic functions. That's bad. Hmm, has just become a security guard, oh, and what's this? His course manual. Better read up on that. Basically, he would take it in his stride and just try to rough it out. George is pretty good at getting into a routine. The Specter and Whisper as Me - Freak out when they find out that their entire lives have existed for the amusement of others. "The Gods truly do play with dice." Isn't it interesting that my character called the Specter is completely tangible and alive, whre the ghostly character is called Whisper?
