  1. Re: Quote of the Week from my gaming group... From a Vampire: The Masquerade game years ago... "The dog has Obfuscate. The f***ing dog has Obfuscate. Somebody talk to me, I need to understand this." (seven-foot-tall mafia enforcer, guy in a wheelchair, three-hundred-pound dog/bear hybrid, pathologically clumsy nerd, and businessman in wingtips have all miraculously passed Stealth checks to follow Cody. Since it's obvious that Cody's perception scores are abysmal or nonexistant, they break into song) "La-la-la-la-la, we're following Cody, la-la-la-la-la, Cody's f***ing deaf!" "Oh. My. God. It's a flying monkey. For real." "Did you just turn him into a rat?" "I didn't do that. I thought you turned him into a rat." (both turn and look accusingly at the "dog", named Bocephus.) "Bocephus, do you have something to tell us?" (on the way to Dallas) "So, we're loading the unconscious policeman into the trunk of the car, on the side of the freeway, at seven o'clock at night, with the mafia enforcer standing there with his hand inside his jacket. Isn't this attracting any attention?" "Well, it is Corsicana (notorious speed trap). You might get somebody offering to help you." (in Dallas) "We're going to need some bigger f***ing guns." (events in Dallas) "Well, that was the second most traumatic event of my existence." "What the hell was the first?" "Remember that time I woke up next to (PC #3)?" "Oh, right, gotcha." (in Dallas) "God, I can't wait to go back home where all I have to worry about is Setite impersonators, clan war from the Nosferatu, Sabbat invaders and the blood hunt from the prince." "And the chantry leader wants to melt you down for ritual ingredients." "Right, that too. Can't wait to get away from Dallas." (back home) "I told you he was a gangrel." "No he was not!" "He turned into mist, didn't he?" "It doesn't count when the mist is red, you dumb***." Player "So, we're following the Toreador." GM "Right." Player "Who are following the Nosferatu." GM "Right." Player "To Dallas." GM "Right." (big sadistic grin) Player "I HATE YOU."
  2. Re: my weekly (at least) build question My thought: Huge frickin' PhyLim Disads. Base with computer, Followers (droids) with almost no programs in them, Vehicle. And Cyberkinesis. Mind Link, four set targets, Mind Control (machine only), Telepathy (machine only). Might need to drop some other limitations on those powers to really simulate the effect you want. He can now communicate and control his mechanical pawns at range through the Mind Link. He can also control any other machines that he has access to through Mechanical Mind Control, because digitized consciousness would be a super hacker.
  3. Re: WWYCD: The rest of the world's Supers just changed sex. Snow Leopard - "That's odd. The history books never mentioned this. Did I do this? I hope I didn't do this. This is not part of the plan." regarding the ritual: "...Nah. I don't think I need to get fixed. Thanks for asking, though. It's important to me that I be able to pee standing up." Probably would go through with the ritual, just to make sure that he did not screw up future history too much. Universal gender-swap is not one of the changes that he is trying to make, so he'd try to iron it out.
  4. Re: Shoot First, Ask later I had this come up once. The PCs took a shot at Mechanon midst megalomaniacal monologuing. The next time that Mechanon entered the campaign, he didn't stop to gloat until after the PCs were subdued, contained, and prepped in their deathtraps. After that, the PCs will sit patiently through the ranting and wait for combat to start. They knocked sense into Mechanon, they'd rather the rest of their enemies stayed dumb. Especially once they figured out that the description of the nefarious scheme was usually worth listening to. One of them even keeps a tape recorder on him when he's adventuring just so that he can get them transcribed. It's not just chock-full of clues to stop the Doomsday Device, it's also a good confession to help nail down a court case. And, analyzing the motives and methods of supervillains is invaluable to all levels of law enforcement.
  5. Re: Re-Imaged Hero(ines) A flicker, a form, a figure in the alleyway.. It had not been there a moment before. But it did not care about that. It did not question this. Three bodies lay bleeding on the ground. Two of them were gaudily dressed, skintight clothing and one wore a cape. Those interested it. The air shimmered, something unnatural had happened here. One of the dead bodies had a cowl with two peaked ears, like those of some kind of animal. It sniffed at the bodies, and then moved away. Its feet did not track blood away, and it did not question this either. Questions were not part of its nature. Desire was. It raked its claws against the bricks as it stalked away, leaving long furrows in the stone fronting. It turned the corner, and never looked back. The survivors called it a shadow-cat, a pitch-black figure with claws and peaked ears. There were not many survivors. Over the next couple of days, other gaudy figures would come looking for it, hunting it. It learned that it could be hurt. It learned to hate them. They locked it away, tried to make it harmless. But they would learn how hard it was to contain it. They would learn to fear it.
  6. Re: Sure signs that your player doesn't want to be in your 350 pt champions game. "So, can I get a Multiform that has up to 900 points in it?" Me: "Are you f***ing kidding me?" "I'll take the Disads to make up the difference."
  7. Re: Quote of the Week from my gaming group... Actually, no. It's a kind of a theme. Good eye.
  8. Re: Quote of the Week from my gaming group... Gawd, can't believe I've finally finished reading this thread... couple contributions. Glad I wrote these down. Some I may be paraphrasing a little. Steelwasp - "If I try to seduce her in combat, do I take negatives on my PRE roll, my OCV, or both?" Sparrow - "Code vs. Killing, huh?" Synapse - "Yup." Sparrow - "We need to talk." Steelwasp - "Promise me that the webs are coming out of your hands." Silk - "Why?" Steelwasp - "Promise me." Sparrow - "I'm gonna resurrect them." Saurin - "Can I eat their hearts first?" Sparrow - "What?? No!! You can't eat their hearts. I'm resurrecting them now." Saurin - "...Please?" Slipstream - "Your costume is nudity?" Silk - "I call it 'playing to my strengths'." Synapse - "Okay, we're going to William Tell that Humpty Dumpty straight into the Loch Ness Monster, and then glue them all to the floor." Steelwasp - "I'm going to hug the lizard and pull the darts out of my a$$" Slipstream - "Can I just teleport to someplace where none of this crap is happening? Please?" Synapse - "Let's all split up." Saurin - "Why?" Synapse - "Give them a fighting chance." Sparrow - "Look, it only counts if they stay dead, right?" Steelwasp - "Some day you will learn to understand the prejudices that drive us oxygen-metabolising land-based mammals." Silk - "Fear my toxic touch, evildoer! One touch of my fingers, and you go down like a clown!" NPC Villain - "Down like a clown?" Silk - "It's just something I say." NPC Villain - "I've heard that before..." Silk - "No you haven't." NPC Villain - "Jerry!?" Silk - "DAD?!?!"
  9. Re: Help with Psych Lim Dist Fea: Conspicuously weird. Psych Lim: Attention Span of a Caffeinated Ferret. Psych Lim: Must Find Unconventional Way To Accomplish All Goals.
  10. Re: Titles for your character NPCs given nicknames by PCs.. My most-commonly-used villains for years.. Snow Leopard - "The Frosty Fuzzball" "Chilly Willy" "Cool Cat" "Whitey" "The Blizzard Wizard" "Oh God Not Him Again" "The Lycanthrope Misanthrope" "Fluffy" Gateway - "Soul Nibbler" "Hell's Cabana Boy" Matriarch - "Mommy May I" "Mama Mind Control" "Duchess of Diamonds" Technornet - "The Titanium Cockroach" "Ironmantis" Singularity - "The Greased Fist of God" Omega - "The Walking Apocalypse" "Grond Squared" Helix - "Surfer Dude" "Zero Cool" "Tron" "Spyware" The Warlords - "The Gunbunnies" "Engineers of Evil" Nochemorte - "The Arch-Vampire" "The Parasite" "Your Lordship" my PCs.. Greenlight - Fastest Woman Alive... er, that didn't sound right. Scarlet Raven - The Grey Matter Black Op
  11. Re: What Are You Listening To Right Now? "Let It Whip" by SR-71. Why do I love that song so damn much?...
  12. Re: Trigger Clarification |)/\|\/||\|, just when I thought that I understood the full twinky munchkining potential of Trigger, I run across this thread. I wonder, are Entangles considered danger? Flash? Mind Control? Extra-Dimensional Travel UAO? Oh, and about the "reflexive strike" laser turret... would that (or anything of similar build) lash out every time the character is surprised? Frightened? Struck?
  13. Re: Strangest Game Mechanic I Have Seen Yet Huh. I had a player ask for help creating her cat-spirit character. She wanted it to have nine lives. Resurrection regeneration, eight continuing charges, never refreshed. Seemed the easiest way. I thought about duplication, even summon, but they just didn't seem to fit. I'm sure I could have worked out some way to make Duplication serve, but it didn't seem right. The resurrection worked fine.
  14. Re: Sure signs that your player doesn't want to be in your 350 pt champions game. His primary power has an 8- activation roll. And a side effect "kills character if activation fails." Or "destroys planet if roll fails". I call those the DBZ limitations. Phys Lim: Cannot enter Earth's atmosphere. There's only a handful of scenarios where that's not a dealbreaker. Also, Phys Lim: Cannot ever leave the ocean. Or the Gobi desert, or Mount Ranier, or whatever. All of his powers have the limitation "Only when berserk." This one works whether or not the character even has the berserk disad. Susceptibility: 1d6 per phase from proximity to superhumans. Desolid always on. Invisibility always on. Phys Lim: Mute. No telepathy, no other way to communicate mentally. All of his points sunk into movement powers and skills. STR is not "works while desolid". Psych Lim: Agoraphobic. Or, the winner- Psych Lim: Suicidal Depression.
  15. Re: Character out of balance OIF? Absolutely not. Unless he understands that somebody will figure out that the tats are the source of his power. And that person will try to take that power for themself. Eww. OIHF, or maybe restrainable tats?... sure, but he must strip butt naked to use his powers. Cue cameras. Full phase action to go barea$$. And if he's entangled, they're covered, therefore restrained. If he's trying to pull that "Only works when serves (fillinblank)'s purpose", then take it as a given fact that he will try to argue with you about what's in the demon's interest. Disallow just to save yourself the b!7ching and arguing during gametime. But I'd let him have NCC, as long as he understands that it will only work 33% of the time that it really counts, and 33% of the time that it's just kinda helpful. Figured seperately. That keeps him from blowing out lots of little chances and saving the successes that you "owe" him for when it really matters. Gestures is fine. It earns its keep. Have a brick break one of his fingers while he's powered down getting naked. That'll learn 'im. EGO skill roll is fine. The more AP his latest stunt is, the more likely that it'll be shut down. If his NCC isn't acting up. If he isn't entangled, or grabbed, or has his hands full of precious tridium. If he's naked. Sounds like this guy doesn't understand limitations at all. Make sure he learns, good and hard. Now then, about his 'stick trick'... this is not just a cheapa$$ way to buy a 2d6 armor-piercing autofire HKA with reduced END and pay minimal points. This is a way for him to arm his entire party with 2d6 AP Autofire HKA. Transform them into independent real weapons?... He picks up a broom, works his mojo, hands it to the mentalist, grabs a dowel rod, works his mojo, hands it to the energy projector, yanks a bannister loose, works his mojo... Odds are, even the brick would profit from having this thing in his hands. This is the worst kind of min-max powermongering munchkinism. I think I've worked with this guy before. Is his name Alan, blonde hair, about this tall? Love that joke. Only works on the internet, though.
  16. Re: A question for you all: how much damage would this do? 1/2d6 RKA continuous, persistent, no end cost, no range, reduced penetration, effect lasts until victim frees himself or 24 hours, whichever comes first. By my reckoning, that's 10x(1+1+1/2+1/2)/(1+1/2+1/4+1/4)=15 real points.. I figured the 1/2d6 red.pen. because anything with any resPD is indigestible in an animal's system. Rocks, marbles, Legos, pennies, etc. Whereas chewed organic matter is digestible. Most plants and cows and woodland creatures do not have resistant defenses, so they are digestible. Or maybe 1 pip damage, NND does body, defense is having any res PD. Works out the same way, really.
  17. Re: NAZI Villians Or, take the usual route... find an appropriate villain already written up, and convert them to your needs. Redraw a couple of Psych Lims, rearrange a couple of skills, give them a new name and an altered background, and voila! The PCs won't even suspect that the Schwartzveldt, the spirit of the Black Forest, is really Menagerie with some nip/tuck. They'll never notice that Dr. Liebensraum has the exact same character sheet as Binder. The published materials of the Champions is only the tip of the iceberg. There are hundreds of supers that aren't written up. Make up whatever you need. Besides, the best part of this game is inventing new characters and putting together their sheets for the first time.
