Garrett Pryne is the oldest of the Society and the faithful lieutenant. He appears now in the guise of one of the Immortals from the film 300 and 300 Rise of an Empire. He was injured in a battle that would leave many others in his position dead. But Garrett did not want to die. So he was brought to Professor Stempf who began the slow process of restoring him. Because of his injuries particularly to his face Garrett sought out a mask and this eventually gave rise to the Society. Garrett underwent rehabilitation therapy so that he could walk and function as a human being again. Once he was able, he became a bodyguard to the Professor. It was this that lead the Professor to use actual humans instead of the creations he grew that were the original faceless men. Garrett changes his look every few years which means that law enforcement has yet to catch on that it is the same person. His nom de guerre is currently Steel Mask. He uses martial arts and melee weapons usually swords but changes what he does when he changes character. He does not speak but has a link to the others when body language communication i.e. pointing is insufficient. You cannot see eyes when Garrett wears the mask which people find unnerving. His ia also sensitive to the others needs as he knows what it is like to lose the one thing that people instantly gravitate to, the face. Garrett lets Venus run things and backs her, after all he was the one who trained her in combat. Some of the others don't know who and what he is. They merely assume that the Professor sends someone new every few years. A note on Gaze. The first faceless men were vat grown things, think the grey aliens or AD+D doppelganger. The 2nd generation were people experimented on either willingly or not. Because they were associated with the Professor, they were still called Faceless men. And if they were not loyal beforehand, the Professor could make them loyal.

Professor Collins was one of the people ostensibly in charge of the dig. But he was often absent minded. He was a trifle put out that an old suit of armour that was uncovered suddenly went missing. He thought that pieces had been taken by other museums or collectors. It did not occur to him that people around the dig were taking the armour or select bits of it. Until Susn transformed. And Ronnie suggested to him to don the mail coif. That was a mistake that Ronnie might not live to regret in the future. For Krim, or one of his lackeys, decided that this group needed direction and so empowered the coif and so subtly twisted the Professor. He is the leader of the group directing their enterprises. The coif renders him immune to mental powers. It also allows him to generate a suit of armour around himself provided the others are still conscious. The professor now styles himself as Lord Protector. New Team: The Society of Masks During the Prague Spring the genius Milos Stempf fled to the West. Unfortuantely for the world he ended up working in the Underworld. While he was skilled at adapting the work of others sometimes for mass production purposes, his real talent was creating things of flesh. Indeed his first servants the Faceless Men were remarkable. They had pits were the eyes and mouth should be. However they horrified even his allies so Milos had to find servants that were more palatable to others. And this is where the Society of Masks comes in. Originally the Society of Faceless Men, the Society began as the servants and bodyguards of their master Milos. Nowadays with Milos having seemingly vanished nearly 30 years ago, the Society exists in the shadows working on how knows what. Membership of the Society is open to any and all but they must wear a full mask or a stylised mask such as the one in Phantom of the Opera. The sorts of masks include Greek play Chorus masks, the V for Vendetta mask and the masks in the film 300. The Halloween mask from the film of the same name is not. The members usually owe Milos something. His oldest lieutenant suffered severe injuries and was rebuilt as they did not want to die. The Society rarely speak. They seen to have some sort of mind link to speak to each other which seems to be invisible to mental powers or detection. Up to 7 members but a minimum of 5. (Milos is off world and off dimension taking his genius with cloned troops to the Universe/Multiverse. But this is not known to any but the old lieutenant)

Godzilla. The new Hollywood one. The film lets both the American and Japanese culture win. A different city gets the demolition treatment, San Francisco instead of New York or Tokyo. And practical things work. Get people out safely. Use shelters. People still get killed but they are also shown being saved and you have the aftermath of trying to reunite people. The US Military is not portrayed as stupid. They do the wrong thing with the bombs but it is for the right reasons. Good use of Bryan Cranston and Juliette Binoche as you care what happens because of their performances. The big guy looks good and he has Nuclear Fire Breath.

The Man With The Iron Fists 2. Rza returns as the blacksmith Thaddeus who washes up at a village menaced by a killer slaying young girls while the locals labour in a silver mine for a wicked clan head. Rza takes a back seat and lets the Chinese carry the film until the climatic fight.

Enigma. A wonderful film. A genius who has suffered a breakdown returns to the code breaking centre Bletchley Park after the Getmans change their Enigma code for the U Boats. He tries to find the girl he was infatuated with, who has also disappeared, whilst also trying to crack the code again. You also get the reason why the Germans have changed the code. Having discovered the Katyn massacre site the Germans sent signals about it including the names of the dead. The messages are intercepted and decoded by the British and this is what causes the problem. Jaremy Northam as the intelligence head brought in to investigate is really good as he is seen to act as a detective would but with a wider remit.

In real life I would agree with you. But entertainment gives you the option to have your cake and eat it. Let the heroes save lives and show why they are heroes and not costumed killers. And that is what inspires people. That the good guys will save the day or die trying.

Except as below. Toby Smith was the security guard protecting the dig when the armour of Krim turned up. He tried to stop Ms Heglund taking the brestplate and cleaning it. But when the others picked up pieces as well he felt powerless to stop them. Feeling he might as well join them if he could not beat them, he got hold of the greaves. Not his first choice but beggers can't be choosers. He cleaned them and then found they were big enough to fit his legs. This struck him as odd as the brestplate fitted Ms Heglund and they were different sizes. But all his reservations vanished when she put on the armour. The transformation was incredible. So he put on the greaves. Now while they did not make him stronger or good looking they did make him faster. His legs gave him the endurance, agility and speed of a speedster. Now he is The Black Jet

One of the good things about the Avengers (both films) was the conscious depiction of getting civilians to safety and saving civilian lives. Man of Steel should have had that other than the one scene with the oil rig.
