  3. Re: What happens when a new GM doesn't understand game balance I remember the first time I ran a game ever. It was DND 3.5 and I was touring the PC's through a world that I had made up. Unfortunately there was regular character deaths. Initially it was due to not quite getting the CL correct (having a PC roasted on the first turn by a Pyrohydra was not what I intended), which was partly due to a quote that floated around the table: "a monster of a given challenge is designed so that it will take 25% of the parties resources - including hit points". But later it was due do the lethality of players rolling really low on the save or die effects (namely 1's on a d20). Strangely enough when that was happening a bit too frequently I tried to veer away from instant kill effects.
  4. Re: Bearing Witness Radiant Avatar of the Sun For me the term "super powers" might as well be called normal life. Ever seen the t.V. shows that earth broadcasts, everyone knows the good people win, at least that was what my younger self thought and I have decided to continue to do so. If I didn't have super powers I would not exist. To be honest the thought never crossed my mind. I am unable to decide, that it is not my purpose. I think that they are quickly becoming acclimatised to superpowers and maybe in 3 or 5 generations will have fully integrated superpowers into their daily existence. but until then there will always be some difficulties. If I may, what is your authority to decide the fate of superpowers on earth? and why are you considering either option? Also would you mind letting me know what you decide as it would interest my Mother (The Sun).
  5. Re: City on the Edge When the reactor was jettisoned into space the sun noticed. Needing to determine why there was a disruption with the music of the sphere's it launched a solar flare towards Earth. In the time it took for the flare to reach Earth it had coalesced into a sentient entity. This entity was known as the Fiery Avatar of the Sun. When the Edge formed Avatar was one of the signatories. Admittedly it is reasonably well known that Avatar has the mentality of a child, and gets treated as such by the rest of the Edge. This was not helped by incidents such as Terminus comming back from a military base; Avatar: So tell me what it was like? Terminus: Military Avatar: Sooo; whats military like? Terminus: Like military Avatar: But what is it like!? Zero: well military is war and war comes from mars... Avatar: OK (zooms off to mars , 20 minutes later) Avatar: I'm back, didn't find any military but I found this nice shiny rock. The Edge: Recently after ramming the energy broadcast machine that was germinating the Asparagus (not mushroom) shaped missiles carrying a mutagenic plague from low orbit. Avatar was subject to an assassination attempt by eclipse, who stole the nice shiny rock to project her own power into Avatar. The day was saved by Miss Chaos who blasted the rock with chaotic energy causing it to invert on itself. The resultant energies teleported the Edge into Nightlands Earth (Yes the palladium setting) and also triggered an apotheosis in Avatar who then became the Radiant Avatar Of The Sun.
  6. Re: Champions Babies You mean there are some?
  7. Re: Champions Babies Avatar: Unaffected would botch up any babysitting attempts as he has little experience with dealing with kids a d does not know what to expect. But will likely be patient and wait till everyone grows up, it probably will only take a century or two right? Affected see above, he recently has undergone a rebirth so is technically a child still, otherwise he would go back to his earlier build. either way I believe he is turning 4 at some point in the campaign. Orca: Unaffected would find the best babysitter he could, and stick around to help any superpower "boo boo's" might even be able to find someone who could help but has very little experience in magic/technology aside from 1+1=boom. Affected: would likely go catatonic from a) the sudden sensory deprivation and all the memories which include so much sensory information that the normal human brain is not wired up to handle. Oh, and he would look human again, which is a plus since he naturally mutated when he hit puberty.
  8. Re: Telios VPP Powers To some extent it is mainly just a tweaking of what produces the attack examples: Electric Eel Armor: electricity based damage shield Acid Goop Gun: Acid Based EB (think a stomach which vomits its payload) Cloned Soldiers: Duplication/summon Mutagenic Spray: Random Transform Rapid Growing/Semi-Aware Poison Ivy: Entangle with linked poison effect Berserker Gas: Mind Control (attack all enemies), area of effect, based on con, NND (self Contained Breathing) plus linked Mental Illusions (Everyone is an enemy), Area of effect, Based on Con. I suppose a good way of thinking is what effect does he want and how could it be designed using biological technology. Hell you could design a powered armor suit he could use out of organic concepts as he pretty much considers other lifeforms at the same level as objects and this could really hit home as to why Telios is such a bad guy.
  9. Re: Shadows into Light Well the first adventure is completed. The PC's convinced the Champions to use their rep. to issue a recall on the beds, they then teleported to the DEMON initiate one of the characters placed a teleport marker on only to find him on an alter waiting to be sacrificed to hinder the party. The party has a small fight with the vampire morbane which resulted in a "draw". Mainly the party didn't kill the Vampire, but the party suffered no losses either. Currently working on next adventure, some ideas would be appreciated.
  10. Re: Harry Dresden The No Conscious Control limitation covers the fact that it can hinder as well as help him and that he has limited if any control over the power. when he is actively hexing machines I would say is a dispel. Unluck would cover when the power works at an inconvenient moment like when his car "died" at the front of Bianca's house in the first book.
  11. Re: Harry Dresden I would build it as: Murphy-onic Field: 1d6 suppress technology, 0END +½, Persistent +½ Uncontrolled (deactivated by performing maintanence) +½, All technology Simultaneously +2, Area of Effect (2" Radius) +1; 27 Active; Always On -½, No Conscious control -2; Real cost: 8points The name is a quote from a character in the book. Also some equipment might suffer a greater effect than normal which you might do as an additional limitation (probably either -0 or -¼ at most) and some things are resilient which would be represented as power defense with the -2 only for foci: Murphy-onic resistance: 5 power defense; 5 active; Only For Foci -2; Real Cost: 2points Hope this answers your problems.
  12. Re: Shadows into Light Thank you both for the links, I will make sure to have a look. I suppose it would help if I described more about the game but I find it easier answering specific questions at this point and it will help me solidify the campaign reality in my head. The PC's have just discovered the DEMON plot I had for this adventure, gaining control of a bed factory and enchanting the beds so that people who slept on them suffered from addictive nightmares which would eventually drive them insane and with enough people open a portal to the quipothic.
  13. Re: Quote of the Week from my gaming group... From my shadows into light campaign on Thursday: NPC: "you guys are nuts" PC: I'm a pistachio
  14. Re: Shadows into Light Wanted to post this earlier but only just got the time. First intro adventure completed and the PC's without any evidence Shot/killed/drenched/incinerated and eventually left out in the sun to spread its ashes a lesser vampire who was making beds. Leaving his psychologically damaged thralls to cope on their own as the cops show up to the disturbance. This means that the next adventure will have the master vampire showing up to personally annoy the PC's as the first of my DEMON threads gets underway.
  15. Re: Shadows into Light I have pretty much left this open for the players. I don't mind if they are diverse - just as long as they are competant. Whatever information I have floating in the back of my mind. Ask Weldun how I know about Star Treck and you will have an idea of what that means.
  16. Hi everybody. I'm starting up a Hero campaign and I wondered if anyone could give me any advice/hints/idea's. The basis of the campaign is that the PC's (of wich there are 5) are members of a mystic organisation that has the following mandate: To protect the mundanes from the supernatural, To enforce the barrier between worlds, To prevent those who would rule all. The organisation is hidden but operates like VIPER and DEMON - The bulk of the organisation is divided up into splinter cells, each cell called a circle. I am planning on the campaign to be mystically oriented focusing more on investigation than combat. I am giving each of the PC's a basic contact, 1 level of membership in the organisation and a base as an everyman. Oh and as a side note this will be the second campaign I have run ever, the first being a DND 3.5 game.
  17. Re: Who are the top 5 most powerful characters in your Campaign. In Sundogs Skeleton City campaign: Stormlord: A flashy energy blaster, who has extreme controll over the prevailing conditions of the battlefield. The Gunny: A flying, energy projecter, brick, scientist, millionare industrialist, who is helping to rebuild the city. VITUS: "A very deliberate killer" gnoll mage Who once (at least) won singlehandedly against Eurostar by the use of a signle item (alright it was one of the artifacts that the skeleton crew is keeping under guard). Void: A teleporter who is being "empowered" by the entities between dimensions. Can take out groups of goons, high powered bosses/bricks, but really hates AOE Felicity: An innate magic user who as part of her daily meditations cleans and purifies the city and its mana lines and has a tendancy to evolve when she encounters new mana sources. Three: Vitus's tanashim concubine who makes crime in the area around the teams base non-existant in the early morning by doing her morning calisthenics on the roof naked with competition over which gang has the best vewing spots already sorted out by the simple expedient of selling tickets. ok that was six but I couldn't reduce it any more
  18. Re: Lets talk about Multiforms, true forms focus I tend to look at it from a theme/concept point. Can the Hulk turn into Bruce Banner or can Bruce Banner turn into the Hulk? First I don't read comics but I recall that people are always saying that Bruce Banner turns into the Hulk. So the concept here is that you have a brilliant scientist who when angry turns into a monster. Now a quick glance at multiform says that the true form is based on conception and I can think of a good reason to have the true form as Doc Banner even though he is the least point form - Suppress/Dispel/Drain/Transfer Multiform - suddenly in the middle of a combat the big green monster becomes a skinny geek and looking a bit worried as you level your railgun at his head and say "don't move".
  19. Re: Mental Deflection Thank you all for your suggestions. I thought I was doing it right but it is always useful to have a second opinion. I have noted though that no-one has answered the second part of my question: What are peoples thoughts on this power? I think it would be a useful ability however the point costs might make it prohibitive depending on how often it is used. Although If you were to buy ranged for it then it would be a really powerful psychic defence.
  20. I've occasionally toyed with the idea of having a mental equivalent of missile deflection for mental powers. The idea sprang from a character concept that I had but just haven't gotten around to writing. How would you make this power and what are your thoughts about it?
  21. Re: Top Signs that you need to rethink your GMing. When the GM makes illogical or inconsistent house rulings and calls them "common sense". When the GM then changes said rulings "because it interupts the story". When the Rules lawer points to Specific Rules in the book and the gm overrules him. When someone is called a rules lawer because they just happen to remember where in the book to find the rule. (glossary/contense pages are useful) when GM points to examples of said rules and says that the examples are the rules. When the GM has not read the core books When the NPC's can do epic world changing effects that ignore the rules of magic because it is dramatic or aids the story. (I don't mind the world changing effects so much just the fact that to do it they had to break how magic works and then PC's can't utilise the same breaks which exist for NPC's only) When the combats are more of a chore than a challenge. It takes a really long time before the GM and other players realise that your character is only a half brick.
  22. Re: WWYCD: One Wish Avatar: I wish I could Grow up quicker. Orca: I wish I could come to an understanding with my father
  23. Re: WWYCD: Welcome Divinity? Avatar: I don't think that is what my father intended for me. I am to learn about this world not rule over it. (by the way they would be floating out of the earths atmosphere at this point as that is where avatar relaxes) and whats with this gender thing you humans have it is just plain confusing anyway? Orca: Tempting, what's the catch? Will I still be able to help out my team? Are there any rules I would need to follow? GOD damnit NO I don't want to become like the stormlord.
  24. Re: WWYCD: Once bitten . . . Avatar: Hmm, an avatar of the sun turned into a vampire? I think would be theoretically impossible. But if it was there would be two options. 1 the next day when he rises above the earth's atmosphere like he needs to he would die. 2 I belive in the call of Cthulu game there was a monster called a star vampire? Either way he would do some research first starting with vampire movies. Orca: So I am now a vampiric mutant, thats just too much. Would ask his team for help. Drinking blood is not so much of a problem for him as he already can only eat raw meat, so it is just a further restriction. After that would hunt down a vampire who could sneak past 360 degree Sonar, Enhanced smell (with tracking) and 360 degree vison climbing into the infra red and ultraviolet spectrums. If no cure is available he would then swim off into the sunrise.
  25. Re: WWYCD: Dead before your time... Avatar: Would probably need to spend a week above the earths atmosphere to recover his powers, then will start looking for the rest of the group (We are supers, we don't die. We just do that for a vacation and then come back right, anyone?) Orca: Will probably do what he can by himself. Will morne the loss of the group and then find a way to stop big nasty thing.
