  1. Re: X-Men: The Next Generation campaign on Hero Central I've posted a request in player finder looking for a HeroCentral campaign to play in. Is there a forum or listing on HeroCentral I should post to look for an opening?
  2. Re: Weekend Warriors -- Campaign Log Hi, I was just wondering if there's a chance for a reunion for these characters?
  3. Re: [Campaign] The Fearless Monster Hunters It looks like such a blast playing in your campaigns. Your players are so lucky! Unfortunately, I've already repped you too much...
  4. Re: X-Men: The Next Generation campaign on Hero Central I know this is late, but I thought of this character yesterday and wanted to post him. What do you think? The tiny bundle of joy sported his mother's steel skin, and had already exhibited enough of his father's strength to destroy two quite reinforced bassinets. The father, known variously as Cain Marko and "Juggernaut," is a man whose latent mutation for strength and durability had been enhanced in his youth by energy from a mysterious red gem. He worked now with step-brother, Charles Xavier, director of S.H.I.E.L.D., in his Weapon X-Men program. He had met his beautiful wife, Ilyanna, in the program. Ilyanna Rasputin, the steel skinned mother of the darling boy, hailed originally from Russia, where she had first discovered her mutant powers saving her younger brother Piotr from a runaway tractor. She had found herself trapped in her steel form at the 18th week of pregnancy. Testing showed that this was an automatic response to protect her child. It is unknown whether her body reacted to child having steel skin, or if her son has steel skin because of this reaction. Either way, little Cain Piotr Marko was born with soft, metal skin that would later thicken into an approximation of his mother's, permanently. In time, Junior, as he was known in his early years, would exhibit great strength and durability, approaching his father's invulnerability, with one interesting improvement: He could absorb all forms of energy to grow larger or more dense, at time surpassing his father's vaunted powers. Life for a child of a Weapon X-Man is chaotic, but when both parents are in the program, it is fantastic! Or, at least, that is what Junior thought. He grew up on stories of battles and visits to the danger room. When he was old enough, he took the codename of the Titan and joined the program himself. He was an intelligent boy, but chafed at all the lessons. He was relatively studious, but really just wanted to be out there smashing things. He got his big chance when Apocalypse rose again. It was all so quick. He took over H.Y.D.R.A., killed Magneto and acquired almost all the components he needed to rewrite the timeline in under a year of activity. There was a final attempt to destroy the time machine, likely a suicide mission, and S.H.I.E.L.D. needed a big distraction to infiltrate Apocalypse's fortress. And, hey, there's no bigger distraction than the combination of the Titan and the Juggernaut! The battle was intense, but father and son played cat and mouse, drawing out Apocalypse's forces to give the Weapon X-Men time to get in and destroy the time machine. Then, over the link came the terrible news: the Weapon X-Men, including his mother, had been detected -- and captured! The big distraction now became the last-ditch rescue. They fought hard, scattering the troops like so many tin cans. Titan absorbed more energy than he ever would have dreamed otherwise, more then he would have thought possible. He grew so massively strong that he used his own father as the fastball in his fastball special, blowing through the heavily armored front gate of Apocalypse's fortress like it was tissue paper. Barely fitting inside, he and his father just smashed through the interior walls to reach the inner sanctum. Where he was brushed aside by Apocalypse. Pulsing with energy, stronger than he had felt in his life, he was brushed aside like a noisy insect and left floating in mid-air. Juggernaut landed one blow, one staggering blow that left a noticeable crack in Apocalypse's headdress, before Apocalypse reached out, no, reached through his father, and drew forth a gem, rhythmically pulsing like a heart. Juggernaut looked upon the gem, bathed in its gently pulsing ruby light for a long moment, then collapsed without a sound. Struggling futilely, Titan growled and threatened and pleaded to no avail. Apocalypse looked upon the still form of Juggernaut for a moment, then turned to his great machine, reaching out to place the gem in a small chamber, already glowing with rising energy, when he hesitated. Titan felt his foot touch the floor as he heard the strained voice of Charles in his mind's ear, "Now." No further encouragement needed, Titan launched himself at Apocalypse. He was going to rend, he was going to destroy, he was going to annhiliate the thing that had killed his father. Hundreds of tons of rage collided with Apocalypse, sending them both crashing into the machine. There was a spark, a concussive flash of light, and indescribable pressure, then silence. Titan floated for an unknowable time, wondering if he had died, before finally feeling the tug of gravity. Slowly, his vision cleared, and he woke up here. Here, where his mother was a noble man who made a sacrifice and his father a selfish, super powered thug. Here, where Charles had worked against a phobic government in his quest to make a better world. And, here, where he couldn't absorb energy. Maybe he burned out that ability at the end, maybe he absorbed so much energy that his body had to adapt, internalize it, but whatever happened, he can now grow taller or more dense with little more than a thought. And he's bigger, now. He was always a big boy, a heritage of his parents, but now he was permanently even bigger. Uncomfortably big, sometimes. After wandering for a time, being rejected by a reclusive Charles Xavier, and learning the differences in this new world, he heard of Xavier's death. He went to pay his respects to a man who had been a true giant in two worlds, and talked with McCoy. In his old world, the Weapon X-Men had been his extended family and his life. The spirit of the X-Men here seemed to be the same, and he could think of nowhere on this Earth he would rather be. Quote "It's not my fault -- most people move when they see over 40 feet of steel barreling at them!" "Every so often, I forget that I'm not in Kansas anymore. And then I see the statue of Mom as a guy." Personality/Motivation A good man, trying to protect those that need protecting. And, maybe, find a way back to his parents. He is intelligent, and can be more cunning than his enemies give him credit. However, he does tend to think with his fists first, and this can get him in trouble. After all, when you are a big hammer, all the world's villains look a lot like nails. Powers/Tactics He's big. That's pretty much the gist of it, he can grow to enormous size, or incredibly dense (over 450 tons at the limit of either growth or density), and tops out with 90 Strength(He can have a combined total of 12 levels of Growth and DI). He is also incredibly durable, and frequently uses this in combination with his size to act like a mobile bulwark, allowing his teammates to use him as cover and fire around him as they move through battle. Appearance His is a massive metal man. At his smallest he is around 7 feet tall and weighs 400Kg(880 pounds), but can increase his density a thousand-fold, to weigh in at 410,000Kg, or about 450 tons. At his tallest, he is 32 meters tall (16 game inches, or over 100 feet) and 16 meters wide. At this point, he again weighs 410,000 Kg or ~450 tons.

  7. Re: X-Men: The Next Generation campaign on Hero Central OK, here is BrainStorm, aka Victor Cassandre, near-clone of Dr. Doom engineered to have abilities from Charles Xavier and Magneto. Xavier's mental powers have manifested, but the magnetic powers are weaker, and he was actually left with a vulnerability to magnetics. I've never made a character of this caliber before, and only a couple of mentalists period(all NPC), so if the power pools are off or there are any suggestions, please speak up. 10. Re: What is Your Favorite Item? I concede! G.I. Joe beats all. Another item I heard about (I love listening to gamer stories) was the Wand of Akoozab. A mad wizard had decided that a wand of fireballs was too wimpy, so he created a dozen staff-sized versions, bound them together, and set them all to the same command word. One word, twelve high-level fireballs.
  11. Re: What is Your Favorite Item? I first encountered the concept in the early 90's TMNT cartoon, in the form of a katana so sharp that it could cut doorways to other places (and, I think, times).
  12. Re: I knew it would eventually come to this... Yeah, I thought about mentioning previous Doom/Richards and Magneto/Xavier relationships, but I thought I'd fallen far enough into squicky slashfic as it was. Having read your handbook of the Bunnyverse, I see that Doom died years ago, anyway, so this won't work. Oh, well. Hmmm...maybe I could form up a three-way, though Victor Cassandre There is safety in cloning, but no progress. So, Doom gathered genetic samples from super battles around the world, looking to introduce the X-gene into his own illustrious bloodline. Not just any samples would do, though. Evolution is all well and good, but so random. So Doom considered what would be a valuable addition to his already awesome genetic code. Many mutant powers can so easily be replicated by machines: flight, healing, energy blasts, even weather control. So, Doom looked to gather samples from those possessing powers least easily duplicated artificially: great intellect to build upon his own, profound willpower to harden his already iron strong will, and awesome mental powers. Charles Xavier possessed just such intellect, will, and powers, and his great adversary and one time ally Magneto possessed a towering intellect as well, and perhaps even greater willpower. Plus, his intriguing magnetic powers could potentially be used in manufacturing or controlling Doom's own mighty machines. It was difficult. Magneto was powerful and well guarded, and so was rarely injured in battle, but at least he got out some. Xavier led from the rear, often kilometers removed from the battle. Eventually, Doom used his tremendous intellect to craft an undetectable mosquito-sized drone that was able to infiltrate the X-Mansion and extract a microliter directly from Xavier. Samples in hand, Doom set about studying their expression of the X-gene and how to integrate them into his own DNA. He proved his brilliance and created a viable embryo, and he artificially incubated the boy. A group of doombots had assisted him, and he sent two of these along to act as parents when Doom secreted the boy away in Luxumbourg. Doom was never able to follow up on his experiment, dying when the boy was just 8. Young Victor definitely inherited Doom's intellect, and eventually a measure of Xavier's mental powers, which he successfully concealed. By the time Victor was 14, he deduced that his "parents" were doombots, and procured the truth of his situation from them before leaving. He spent some time wandering Europe, recovering from the shock of discovering he was was the engineered near-clone of a supervillain, before making his way to America at 19, seeking out Xavier to help him with his mental powers. When he discovered that Xavier was dead, he appealed to McCoy to accept him into the new program.
  13. Re: X-Men: The Next Generation campaign on Hero Central I'm sure I'm too late, but I just had an idea for a character: YY: The True Male Dr. Doom and Magneto have been called many things. Megalomaniacs. Arch-Villains. Geniuses. Lovers? The truth they kept from even their closest henchpersons, they had the tempestuous, incredible love only possible between two would-be world conquerers. In time, they decided to create the perfect being, a blending of their own perfections. The homosexual nature of the coupling was easily defeated by their genius and technology. First, a gender. If it was a girl, she would just fall for the first hunky hero to come along and betray them. But, they couldn't decide whose 'Y' chromosome would make their son a man. Then, in a stroke of superb genius, Dr. Doom realized they had a unique opportunity: they could both contribute a 'Y' and create, 'YY', the True Male. Birthed from a metal womb, raised by evil geniuses, YY could easily have ascended into the stratosphere of megalomania and world domination plans. Instead, he felt compassion for every living thing around him, literally experiencing everything else's pain. Eventually, he found he could share that with others through a sort of reverse empathic link, and discovered a range of other mental powers as well. Utilizing the incredible intelligence and planning skills inherited from his fathers, YY managed his escape at twelve, taking a few choice pieces of technology with him, including TikTok, the modular robot nanny that had been a constant companion since his earliest years. Powers: A mental powers VPP, Selective Area-Of-Effect Body and STUN drains limited to what another living entity in the vicinity experiences, Gadget VPP and 30+ INT.
  14. Re: What is Your Favorite Item? Sorry, I didn't mean to scar anyone's psyche. When I ran into Al Bruno's stories, I did remember this incident and think, 'Oh, so this is what it might have been like if that group had been the only game in town...'
  15. Re: Return To Doctor Han's Island (advice needed) For more variety, you could have Bruce Leroy from "The Last Dragon" show up. Maybe Sho'Nuf comes up as a villain, too. EDIT: Oops, never mind. Last Dragon came out in 1985: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Last_Dragon
  16. Re: What is Your Favorite Item? I thought of another item, although this was not an item I admired. It was one that told me I wanted to get out the hell out of Dodge. Some years back, in high school, I went with a friend to play some D&D with another group of his friends I hadn't met before. We get there, and they break out some ridiculously characters (I forget exactly, but it was something like a half-giant fighter/thief/barbarian and a drow sorcerer/ranger/god of fiery death, and a super thief of some sort). I went with the flow, and they started their game while I watched and snacked. They were a little immature, but I didn't think much of it, until the fighter/thief/barbarian used his special, magical sword with the poetic name of 'DeathF***er', a soul sucking short sword that would leap from his codpiece at a command word. It remained attached to the codpiece, allowing him to 'triple wield' in battle. He had made no mention of this sword during his descriptive seduction of a barmaid earlier in the adventure, so things weren't as bad as they could have been, but I never did return to that gaming group.
  17. Re: What is Your Favorite Item? Hehe. Pretty good, though I'd be concerned if the most powerful sword in the world was Chaotic Evil...
  18. Re: What is Your Favorite Item? Well, of course, but you could tell us how you came to possess a frozen confection created by Steven Long. And, did you have the Weapon Familiarity before or after acquiring it? If you already had the WF, then that could be a story on its own.
  19. What item stands out in your mind? Maybe it's something you came up with for your PC used, maybe it's something relatively ordinary that you or another player used in an innovative fashion, or maybe it's something you as a GM gave out that had unintended consequences. One that I heard about, but unfortunately never encountered myself, was TRAM, Troll SPAM. A resealable canister that held a block of magically suspended Troll flesh. Open the canister, it would start to regenerate, slice a chunk off into a hot pan (to stop the regeneration), and close the canister. Created as a fluke and intended as rations of last resort, it proved to be a great distraction generator. Sneak behind enemy lines, slice off a chunk or two (or twelve) of TRAM, scatter near the enemy tents, and evacuate the area.
  20. Re: Hero Goes to the Movies (or TV Shows)! I like the Dexter write-up, Sketchpad! Rep! Do you have recommendations on how to get him down a bit? I'd like to use him as 250 points.
  21. Re: Help with Game Stats for a Big Gun? Thanks for the links, ShadowCat. I usually check Susano's site first when I'm looking for write-ups or example powers, but I somehow missed his A-10 write-up this time...
  22. Re: Help with Game Stats for a Big Gun? Thanks!! Just what I was looking for! Susano has _so much_ great stuff there, I thought he had to have this. I must have just had temporary blindness before, or my "Google-Fu" was weak that day, or something. And, of course, thanks to Susano for all the great write-ups on his website!
  23. Re: WWYCD: the mermaid Nice little story, and I like your portrayal of Ducky. Anybody else remember him in Outer Limits back in the day as a Welsh coal miner who was evolved (and briefly devolved) by a professor's fantastic machine? Ah, yes, imdb ( The Sixth Finger ) and YouTube to the rescue.
