  2. Re: What do you look for in Con Pregens as a player? Well, take this as an example of what I like to see. http://www.herogames.com/forums/showpost.php?p=1460953&postcount=27 Notice how all the characters are woven together . . . in ways that hinder as much as help them. I have found that this can make for some interresting roleplaying if the players are up to it.
  3. Re: The Incredibles and Registration
  4. Re: The Incredibles and Registration But that kind of "carding" already happens. In the United States, buy a firearm. In most nations buy a car. Or become a Private Investigator, Bounty Hunter, etc. Discounting the "Iron Age" idea that Government is EVIL, I supsect that most people would tend to think of Superpowers in the same light.
  5. Re: The Incredibles and Registration
  6. Re: The Incredibles and Registration There is also the horrible plot problem with The Incredibles, but not unique to them. (I LOVE the move, by the way, in spite of it.) They suffer from the meta-genre fallacy that "The existance of Superheroes causes Supercrime." When the public did away with Superheroes, there would have been an explosion of Supercrime that would have forced people/the govenernment/etc. to call upon the heroes for help. This would have quickly forced the repeal the legistation. (Much as Syndrom's attack did.)
  7. Re: WWYCD voluntary super registration Darkstar would have no choice. Since he does not keep a secret ID (but does not have a Public one either), he needs some level of Government cooperation to maintain his PI's license, since that is how he pays his bills.
  8. Re: WWYCD: Dr. Destroyer vs Takofanes Dr. Destroyer is evil and justly hated, but the victory of Takofanes would destroy the world with little hope of escape. Takofanes cannot be allowed to prevail.
  9. Re: Evil Defender... Yes, having him come out pro-super registration/enlistment and will the help of other scientist "heroes" resurecting a dead hero-god to help enforce that view . . . . . . oh wait. That's been done. And it @$#%ed there too.
  10. Re: WWYCD "super" registration Darkstar would campaign strongly against the law, feeling that it is a violation of the civil rights of many of the metahumans in the nation. However, since he does not maintain a secret identity, he would feel compelled to obey the law if passed, while continuing to oppose it.
  11. Re: Valdorian Age For $13.50! Except that the two rocks need to be diamonds, and the bone . . . an authentic dinosaur leg bone from a brontosaurous.
  12. Re: Realism vs cynicism The world's reactions to superhumans Actually, I would be more concerned that MARVEL was writing the character . . .
  13. Re: Baseball-related characters in comics/games? Well, maybe the people over at DC/Warner Bros.?
  14. Re: Realism vs cynicism The world's reactions to superhumans
  15. Re: Realism vs cynicism The world's reactions to superhumans
  16. Re: Realism vs cynicism The world's reactions to superhumans This is true. What is more likely true is that the Government would attempt to get some superhumans intergrated into the Armed Forces as kind of an RDF for those kinds of problems. (Such meta-human soldiers might also help to relieve the publics own fears of superpowers - assuming the metas were used to protect and not to oppress the citizens.)
  17. Re: Realism vs cynicism The world's reactions to superhumans
  18. Re: Realism vs cynicism The world's reactions to superhumans I don't know. While it is the nature of the Comic medium to exaggerate, there are a couple of things to keep in mind on this. "Eat the Rich" - people in the real word do decend viciously on people they see as having advantages that they do not. This already happens with people who are more wealthy and/or famous right now - hence the quote. This is compounded by the way the Media (every hungry for a headline) will decend on a celebrity at the earliest whiff of scandal or weakness. "Fear" - People can and do to stupid things when they are afraid. And, with some Superhumans they would have a right to be. A Brick with a Strength of 75, punches with the same force as a Railroad Locomotive hits a Brick Wall at 30mph. And he/she can do this with every blow. And while people may be afraid, governments will be terrified by this threat to their authority (even relatively benign governments would be concerned about this kind of uncontrolled power walking about). They would typically react either to control or eliminate the threat. So, while a lot of the "Iron Age" comics may go overboard on their reactions, I think they may still be on the right track.
  19. Re: "Your girlfriend works for VIPER!" Huh? This is good. And if your player is the time for complicate character driven stories, this would be perfect!
  20. Re: Why do you like to play Super Hero Games? And there is . . . "Hot Chicks in Spandex!" (B.T.W. - I have it on good authority that this does work both ways! )
  21. Re: "Your girlfriend works for VIPER!" Huh?
  22. Re: What kind of fantasy campaigns do you love? I seem to run counter to the prevailing preference here. High Power - Bordering on Superheroic. A setting that is more dramatic and heroic then Earth ever was. (I also tend to downplay some gritty elements like bad sanitation, poor hygene, grinding poverty, etc.)
  23. Re: "Your girlfriend works for VIPER!" Huh? Depends, if he is off heroing and she hasn't figured it out then what is to say that she doesn't have a more importand and direct role in VIPER? Hmmm . . . mayhaps she has already penitrated the hero's Secret ID . . . would also lead to some interresting story options - as well as explain why she has put up with his "strange" disappearances (i.e., when he is off crimefighting).
