  1. Re: A DC Animated-style HeroMachine I noticed the issue with Firefox and Fab earlier tonight, runs painfully slow in Firefox and I'm not going back to IE the ultimate security hole.
  2. Re: Help Me Populate A Creepy Hotel a warning meant After a PC does something impolite, regardless of whether intentional or not, to anyone be it guest or staff and goes to his room, he/she is awakened in the night by a gentle tapping sound next to the room's mirror. The tapping by itself isn't loud enough to have awakened them, but at first it's the only strange event happening. The tapping becomes more and more insistent until eventually the PC gets up and walks over to see what is making the noise. Upon nearing the spot, the mirror is obviously fogged over with two words written upon it, "Never more". The next day, if the PC mentions the occurrence to anyone that's been in the hotel for any real length of time, the person grows pale and mentions people talking about it before and eventually disappearing. Upon further investigation, the PC finds out that the people who have disappeared have repeated the mistake that happened before the message before their disappearance. If the PC continues to investigate, they discover this has been going on for hundreds of years and has been documented by an aspiring poet in one of his poems a long time ago.
  3. Re: WWYCD: "Dear Superhero" (Warning: Ugly situation) Discus: After taking the time to verify this letter, and find the country, there's a plane ticket to buy. If the government tries to stop her, she kindly reminds them she's an independent contractor for them, red white and blue attitude or no. If they persist, she explains that a strong, ticked off, American heroine is a whole lot harder to handle than one that's on good terms with them. That obstacle hurdled, she takes her American Way mentality overseas and begins fighting back. She starts at that village until the military decides it's not worth going there then starts her march towards the capital. Doubt there's much that the government can do to stop her as she could easily destroy tanks either at range or up close and any damage they do to her will heal given a few moments. When she gets there, she grabs the leader, pulls him very close, and lets him know she'll keep monitoring the situation. He'd best shape up, or there'll be a little shock and awe done to his capital building.
  4. In an uncharacteristic spark of creativity I came up with a very basic premise for a campaign and was wondering if anyone ever tried anything like it or sees potential handicaps or benefits from it. All powers are possible to be bought, but all powers are variants of TK. So, for instance, the brick would either have a no range TK or buy Str with the SFX of innate TK rather than simple enhanced str. A fire blaster could telekinetically cause friction in air molecules such that it ignites them into flames. Any other power suggestions along these lines?
  5. Re: Help me get into Bricks. Got a chance to play her tonight, and she's a blast! Thanks all for getting me past my block.

  7. Re: Super Fantasy- The Land of Mar'Veldc I could see Peter as a scribe or map maker.
  8. Re: Super Fantasy- The Land of Mar'Veldc You could possibly turn the Swamp Thing into a diety. Around the mid-80s, he might as well have been one as was. He was able to form anywhere there was plants, talk to the general will of plantlife and so on.
  9. Re: Underpowered tropes? I'll add to the size changers being underpowered. If you're tiny, the GM starts adding AoE attacks to the bad guys so they can hit you; if you're big good luck finding a situation that'll let you grow to twenty plus feet tall without destroying the building you're in by doing so.
  10. Re: Champions Universe History and Continuity Hopefully, maybe then I'd finally get a chance to fight Clown.
  11. Re: Cue theme music Thank you Derek!
  12. Re: Cue theme music I don't know the name of the song, but for Foxbat, the song with the lyrics "You may be right, I may be crazy, but it just might be a lunatic you're looking for" fits best I think.
  13. Re: Help me get into Bricks. Miranda looked out at the crowd as she listened to her coach tell her about a threat upon the American Olympic team. “I'm going out there.” She stated flatly as she got up from the bench and began walking out to the field. “You fool, they specifically stated the hit would start during the discus throw! You're America's current sweetheart they hurt you and it'll be a big blow to the team's morale, not to mention your family's loss!” her coach roared at her. “These people didn't come to see the terrorists push us around. In case you don't remember, these colors don't run.” With that she motioned to her red, white, and blue costume as she walked out to the field. As she walked out towards the throw area, she scanned the crowd again. Any of these people could be the one that planned to take her life, but also any of these people could be the ones that deserved to see her go for the gold. If the later group's experience would be ruined, she was determined it wouldn't be by her. She grabbed the discus and swiveled. As she released the projectile, she became dimly aware of two things, a cracking sound from the stands and a bee's sting in her side. Her vision faded to black as the sounds of millions of people screaming filled her ears. She was unconscious by the time her body hit the dirt. Her throw would win her the gold. **** Miranda awoke to several I.V. Tubes sticking in several areas of her body. “Miri honey, there's news.” her mother said patting the bed in as comforting manner. Miranda turned her head, talking seemed too difficult at the moment, and looked softly at the woman who had given birth to her. “The damage was too severe, honey... the doctors can't help you.” the woman said fighting back the tears that desperately wanted to flow. Just then, the door opened, and a Man in Black type strode in, “That may not actually be the case ma'am and ma'am.” With that, he lifted one arm backwards pushing against the door, closing it. “In fact, that's why you have a private room Miss Strode. You see, Uncle Sam has developed a serum that could be used to help save soldiers in the battlefield. The problem is, it needs to be tested before it can be widely used. We'd like to make that offer to you, and before you ask, accepting will in no way tie you to the government.” the man continued as he took off his glasses, looked at them once, and then put them into his suit jacket, “Of course, we need your answer as soon as possible, or we'll need to find another potential volunteer.” Punctuating this, the man stepped back to the door and went into a military at ease stance effectively blocking the door from opening. “Miri?” the mother asked nervously looking between Miranda and the man and back again, “Honey, it could be your only chance.” Miranda nodded and motioned for something to write on. The man responded instantly handing her stationary and a pen both stamped with the president's seal. She looked at it nervously for a few moments and shrugged as best she could despite the pain. “Mother, don't you think I know that? There has to be some reason that they're so anxious to get me to do this. I'll do it, but I want you to do what you need to ensure my safety. Take pictures of me so they can't make me disappear.” She then handed her mother the paper and several beneath it to try to make it so they couldn't do something to find out what it said. She then looked at the man and weakly nodded her acceptance. Miranda was instantly moved from a public to a military hospital along with the barring of guest visitations until after a unspecified time all under the guise of being best for all concerned. Of course, upon arriving at the hospital, Miranda had been buried under a mountain of paperwork that all basically said that she wouldn't sue the government for any complications brought about by anything that she was exposed to or denied during her stay. None of her doctors or nurses were told anything related to her identity and her only contact with the outside was the perpetually unnamed agent that had addressed her within her old room. She was instructed to always wear gloves so that her fingerprints would be left no where, she was told that no one was to take any form of dental samples or skin samples save for the agent, and was told that this was for her protection as well. Her days were filled for several months with tests, dietary restrictions, medications, and extreme amounts of exercise. For instance, her daily caffeine rich helping of coffee was replaced with simple water, and the flavors she was exposed to could be summed as air and cardboard. The reasoning being that the chemicals in uncontrolled food and drink could interfere with her treatments. At first everything went well, her health improved dramatically, the chemicals she was filled with helped her body be able to rally itself against the extreme damage the ricocheting bullet had done to her. Within a weeks time she was hobbling around with a walker, during which time the military worked her upper body getting it back into the shape it had once been. A few weeks later, she no longer needed the walker and stamina training began. By the end of the second month, she was able to walk a mile before tiring. It wasn't what she was at her peak, but it was a ton better than if she hadn't come to the military hospital she rationalized. Her fourth month though, things got strange. The first week in, the attending physician complained having difficulty getting the needle past her skin, by the second week, that had been upgraded to impossible. Her strength went past the monitoring computers ability to measure by standard means and upon further testing, small cars were easy with pickup trucks being slightly more difficult. Her self-imposed gymnastics training become easier and easier until she was way better than her friends who had been in the gymnastics team at the same Olympics. The military then tried to draft her into service, but was deterred only because of Miranda's not to her mother who in turn contacted the president and asked him for reasons her daughter would be forced into service when explicitly told otherwise. The government settled with a independent contracting relationship wherein she'd have a contact she reported to monthly but wouldn't be forced into any specific mission she was not comfortable with. **** Miranda was soon released from the hospital and went home where she continued to train. On top of strength and agility training, she started working with smaller discus approximately half the size of a manhole. Eventually, she became nearly pin point accurate with their targeting. This all culminated in a momentous decision. She'd seen violence at its worst, her assailant had wanted her dead, and she determined to make sure that happened to no one else around her. To that end, she took a few classes in costume design and the designed a patriotic suit from spandex with metallic accents to her gloves, boots, and shoulders. Appearance in costume: (Note the wig designed to not be easy to remove) Appearance out of costume: Powers: Miranda is extremely strong able to lift anything up to dump trucks, an Olympic level gymnast, extremely durable able to bounce normal caliber bullets though they still tend to sting and heavy caliber bullets can still penetrate but to a lesser degree. Equipment: As Discus, Miranda carries four small discus each approximately the half the size of the standard manhole cover. Hobbies: Most of her hobbies focus around Olympic events primarily because that used to be her occupation. She's since become an avid reader of sports fiction and has began trying her hand at local theater. She's also an avid Eastwood fan and knows most of his movies by heart. Does this look like a good basis for a decent brick background wise?
  14. Re: Help me get into Bricks. Wasn't trying to stop the conversation , just letting you guys know you're getting through to me! By all means, keep 'em coming! When I get into a game as the brick, I'll even post here and let ya all know what I thought of playing him/her.
  15. Re: Help me get into Bricks. Wow, thanks for the replies! I'm definitely going to give them some thought. I really like the powerset ideas you've given and got a kick out of the Samsonite idea. Might try combining that with the throwing weapons and martial arts for CV bonuses idea next time we play or the next pbem I get into.
  16. I've often wanted to make this thread, but always talked myself out of it, but after reading the energy projector thread, I finally decided to make the thread. I've played speedsters, energy projectors, mentalists, weapon masters, and almost every other character type, but I've never been able to get interested enough in bricks to make this character type. It's gotten so bad that we've got a minor insider joke when making characters where someone will ask me if I'm finally going to play the brick. The reason I can't get into the character type is I feel they're very restricted. If an energy projector's main attack doesn't work, they'll usually have some kind of inherit back up plan like an entangle for instance. If a speedster is out gunned, they can still find other uses for their speed, and such can be said for the other characters I've played. If a brick isn't powerful enough to punch the villain out, what besides ineffectively punching them again can he do? Please give me ideas of how to break through this mental block I have so that the next time they ask me if I'm playing the brick I can smile and hand them the already made character.
  17. Re: A DC Animated-style HeroMachine Anyone able to translate the site? I tried with the free site I use, but the translator wasn't able to comply well enough for me to actually comprehend what I was reading. Has it gone pay to use?
  18. Re: A DC Animated-style HeroMachine I'm not sure if this is the place to mention it, and I almost feel guilty doing so since I can't afford to help, but the developer of the Fabrica says that he'll need to close the blog before the end of the year if he can't get enough financial support. As this is a thread dedicated to enjoying his work, I just mention it in hopes the right person hears it. Again, I apologize if this isn't the right place.
  19. Wasn't sure exactly where to put this, as it doesn't really fit in the looking for players section as I want to be a player. My ftf group isn't as much into super heroic roleplaying as I am and I'm no where near as into fantasy rping as they are. This leaves me looking towards the online games for my supers fix and have noticed few Silver Agish games in my searches. My question is, are there any Silver Age games with room in them? I'm willing to tailor characters to campaign needs. The only thing that probably wouldn't work is a chat based game, AIM and the like. Thanks in advance.
  20. Re: Unworkable Premises for a Campaign I sent you a PM over on HC asking if you were still looking for players and mentioning a character idea in case you were. Thought I'd reiterate the idea over here. The base concept, which is the stage I'm at at the moment, is an employee at a zoo who after the transformation gained the ability to change into a form encompassing traits from several of the animals at the zoo. Would this be acceptable? Also, as for the reason of the divorce, perhaps she was stuck in the animal form for a bit, having to learn how to regain her human form, during which time guilt and resentment grew? Of course, after regaining human form, she's forgiven him, but the damage and divorce had already been done.
  21. Re: My first character (Speedster) Personally, I'd put the speedster tricks and the movement based ones inside a single EC and leave the Hyperthrowing as a Multipower.
  22. Thought I'd put a character I applied to a game with up for comments, to get some ideas how the community at large would react to him. 1) A) Shade/Stephen Adams Shade essentially becomes a living solidified shadow creature which is for the most part human like. He's taller than a normal and has whisps of shadow constantly streaming from him. He's also completely black, looking for the world every much the shadow he becomes. While in this form, he also has control over the very shadows, able to manipulate and soldify them. As he can do with external shadows, so in some effect can he do to himself. He can elongate his limbs, he can cause his hand to morph into a non-solid shadowy substance that indirectly interferes with the mental energies of living creatures, and project the whisps in a directed blast. Along these lines also, as he can solidify shadows, he can also convert his form to an actual shadow, making him impervious to most harm other than those that directly assault his mind or are comprised of flame or heat (both of which can eliminate shadows. His biggest weakness is that if he's in an area devoid of any shadows, it becomes very likely that his shadowy nature will again repress into his normal human physicality. This is because it causes a disconnect between him and the entities that saved him in return for him becoming in essense an agent for them in our physical universe. He also has little defense against attacks comprised of light because of his shadowy nature. C) Steve started out a very alturistic person. He did pro bono psychiatry for those that couldn't afford his fees as well as purposly keeping his fees the lowest he could and still make enough to keep his business intact. This pro bono work was in fact what caused his current state of affairs. He consoled a woman to leave her abusive husband without bothering to find out who said husband was. Therefore, he wasn't ready when a local hitman, one he still has no clue the identity of, took offense to his wife leaving him. The same man had always had his wife followed by those under him in the hierarchy. It was a simple deduction from that point to figure who had convinced her to leave. It was then another simple step to find out where Steve lived. Finally, it was a simple decision for this man of death to decide to end the man who had ended his marriage. Everything went according to the killer's plan, the psychiatrist never knew what hit him as the bullet slammed into his back. The wound would kill slowly, which was much to the killer's liking. He walked to Steve and laughed explaining that he was dieing and he was doing so because he'd taken from the killer what was the killer's. The man then turned and walked away. If he hadn't left, he would have been in part privy to what happened next. Steve heard a voice, not as he always had, of that he was certain, but nevertheless, he'd heard it. It asked him simply if he wished to live, to which of course he answered affirmative. It then went on to tell him that in order for him to do so, he must promise to eventually do something for it just as it was now doing something for him. Steve was hesitant to this, better to serve in heaven after all. The creature still not identifying itself laughed and explained that it was as mortal as him, if one discounted the life span difference, it had in times past even been human. It had progressed past that point, much as Steve would do eventually if he continued loyalty to the creature. The problem had been that some heroes of his day, empowered with control over light had banded together and forced the creature fully into the shadows. It now needed an agent to do its work outside the shadows, someone with a level of its power but without the limitation the creature currently lived under in order to eventually overcome its punishment. This explained to him, Steve was breathing what would have been his last when he agreed to help the creature. He then passed out, and came to in the shadowy form. He heard and felt the creature leave his mind, telling him to hold on to his sense of self, that as fleeting as it would prove to be, the creature would enjoy watching Steve try to remain instead of fulling succumbing to its control. D) Steve's personality shifts from form to form. In human form, the dark nature is much quieter. He's no longer alturistic, instead preferring to pursue the nicer things in life, money, belongings, etc. He is however still every bit as friendly, in fact maybe more so, but it's more inspired by wanting to manipulate to get his way than concern. This said though, when he gives his word, and it doesn't contradict a current plan, he won't break it. For example, if he agrees to work with someone, he won't betray that confidence, at least not until the person proves that not doing so is just setting up for being betrayed himself, and he lives with the fear that someday the creature's prediction will come true, that everything that made Steve Steve will disappear. When in shadow form, the personality gets darker, more fear orientated. In fact, if you draw his attention in a hostile manner, he will do what he can to inspire fear. In fact, his tactics tend to revolve around that goal, he may for example take a moment to raise his arm high, the whisps dropping as would blood from his enlarged shadow claw, the shadows around reaching for a hero at the same time, and he would then make a comment about the fraility of the living condition. His other traits take a darker turn as well, his humor becomes more directed at deriving from the expense of others, loyalty being more of a feral pack mentality sizing others against himself mentally, he derives a more possessive nature towards items he's interested or entrusted with, and he is very reluctant to revert to Steve again at least until he does so out of some sort of internal drive more likely comming from Steve than anything the shadow creature desires. E) The one thing Steve and the shadow within agree on is that he deserves the good things. Therefore, a portion of his crimes orbit money, cars, and the other trappings of the high life. The other part of his crimes occur when the shadow is fully in control, more likely from the accidental change, wherein he's been known to steal from monasteries, museums, and the like, usually texts or relics related to shadows or ancient China. Once caught and asked why he took the items, he seems to have no recollection of the crime or the items in question. This situation however isn't even consistant as other times that he changes outside of his control, the shadow basically takes up where Steve left off and eventually turns back given time. F) The inspiration for the character comes from a similiar place as other characters such as the Hulk or Mr Hyde the parts of a man that he isn't completely in control of. He differs from them in which part that is though, the Hulk and Hyde both derive from man's anger. Shade however derives from fear and the loss of control fear can bring. One thing to keep in mind, is that Shade has no skills or knowledge in fields related to his relic and text thefts. He basically gets an overwhelming desire to have the item, and then goes about doing it. When he says he has no clue why he wanted the item, he means it. I wish to leave to the GM the exact nature of the creature and its desires, other than I would ask that what little the creature told Steve about itself be kept as fact. The inspiration I had for the creature was actually Kung Fu Panda's villian of all places. A villian that pushes him/herself to throw away what's good in them in the pursuit of a goal. 2) I've had over six years experiance with the HERO system. In fact, 90% of my gaming is still HERO, and truthfully I don't see that changing soon. 3) I'll more than likely be able to post at least once, quite possibly twice a day. 4) I've been reading comics for over 20 years now, and feel that I have at least a decent grasp of the genre even if my tastes tend to run Silver for the most part. Shade's gimmick isn't one specific ability, rather it is the overall feel of the character. He shouldn't be the strongest at either range or melee, he definatly isn't the fastest, but hopefully he'd be the only one with control over shadows. Think Cloak from Cloak and Dagger in a sense, but then take it in the way that he manifests it, remembering that he's not controlling a "dark force" but rather controlling the shadows. 23. Re: Opposing Force: Taking a Walk on the Vile Side I'm assuming from the examples you've given us that a quirky smart mouth (ala Spidey) villain who's basically in it for the cash and the girls, but not necessarily in that order?
  24. Re: Opposing Force: Taking a Walk on the Vile Side Considering applying for this game over on rpol, but quick question as to "feel". Most of my characters tend towards Silver Age, would this be acceptable given the tone of the campaign you have in mind?
  25. Re: Lunatiks unleashed Actually liked this show, and from what I could see on your list, all you're missing is a couple of Tech's and one of Rev's powers. Tech according to the first season's opening credits had magnetic powers as well as his gadgets, not that I remember him using magnetism much, and he also had scads of regeneration. Rev had what amounts to an internal GPS unit.
