The response to school shootings from our elected representatives seems to be.... "Life sucks (for you). Get over it!" I'm just....so tired of it all.

The part that stood out to me was prior to the study there were only five a decade and then all of sudden there are five in a month. I don't want to say there is a causal link with the Obama and Trump Admins but 5/decade then 21/2010, and five in the last two years.

That's not counting the things like the Pelosi attack. We're just looking at mass shootings.

Jimmy Carter has done his best to live what the Bible teaches, not just mouth the slogans. I've met a few sincere Christians like that in my life. I often fear that religion does more harm than good, and I hate how it's always been used as an excuse to justify intolerance and hatred. But I can't fault anyone for whom religion is a motivator to treat their fellow humans with respect and compassion.

Last weekend, we had a battlemap game where various heroes (not in any supergroup) got together at a park to protect a park statue from being stolen from villains. Among these villains is one of the campaign's most powerful bricks: Armageddon. This brick is from an old book "Trouble for HAVOC" (although he no longer has an 8 Spd!). Anyways, my detective character minifig is closest to him; I decided to have him go up against him and I say aloud, "This is nuts, but my character's going for Armageddon."  Really, one hit from this brick and my character will go down.

Here's where I pull off a few brilliant moves: my detective character has Cinematic Brawling. So, I delay until Armageddon is ready to attack, then use the Eye Gouge attack and blind him for 5 phases. He's blinded and misses. Next attack phase, I use Hoise & Heave and throw him away from me. This allows another character to use a blinding light (Darkness ) on Armageddon when he can see.

In the meanwhile, my detective turns on another supervillain who throws things to entangle heros. My 6's move is to make a half-phase up to him from behind and clear his throat. When the villain turns around, my detective slaps him in the face saying, "That's for attacking a woman."  Next phase, my character delays until the villain reaches for his chemical ball to entangle my detective so I use Disarm on him and he drops the ball, entangling himself.  (Every villain we fought, we found out later, had Unluck!)

Quite frankly, I thought my detective character was going to be *splat* quickly but somehow, quick thinking made him shine in the other character's eyes.

The Stronghold Files version of Neutron is described as having had a 200 pt. VPP only for electro-magnetic effects, when he was in his prime. It was undoubtedly intended to fit him for a master-villain role.

I do think the trauma of their father being killed in front of them would be sufficient to motivate anyone to change the direction of their lives; but Neutron's stated direction seemed rather vague, and more based in ego than in any logical viewpoint. For my Fourth Edition games using Neutron, I borrowed the motivation of the Champs villain Beamline, of imposing government by elite scientists like himself, being best trained to think rationally and objectively. My Neutron gathered scientist supervillains for his team, and established a covert network of other sympathetic scientists.

More tears than chuckles. Such a f****** waste of time. I could care less what Congress thinks of Socialism. Most members of Congress aren't qualified for their jobs.

I've always said it, this brand of American fascism is nothing new. They're acting directly according to the playbook. Anyone with a passing knowledge of history can recognize the signs, and knows where they lead. That's why they want to suppress the teaching of history.

It's a comedic sci fi drama. I found this pretty entertaining, and the messaging is stuff we can all relate to. The inevitable "it's too woke" crowd can suck it.

    Shin Ultraman

A giant in red and silver.

A warrior of light from beyond the stars.

In our time of greatest need, he comes swiftly to our aid.

    He--is Ultraman.

I had high hopes for this movie, and it did not disappoint.  I was a fan of the original Ultraman in 1966, and this is a reimaging of that series, compressed into about two hours.  The SSSP (Science Patrol in the American dub of the series) doesn't have the fancy weapons and vehicles of the original, but they seem to get along without them.  I liked the actors in the movie, especially Masami Nagasawa, who plays Hiroko Asami new to the SSSP from Japan's intelligence service.  (I find her quite fetching, and I shall have to learn more about her.)

One of the first sites I found on the internet when I joined online with my little WebTV set was Wayne Koizumi's Absolute Ultraman.  It had just about everything you could know about every Ultraman series and movie made, and then some.  I was so disappointed when he took the site down--it was like a longtime friend had moved away.  I hope he's well, and liked this movie as much as I did.

This movie has a two-night showing in American theaters--last night was a subtitled version, and tonight's will be dubbed in English.  If there is any movie that is best appreciated by seeing it in the theater, it is this one.  I'll be there tonight, and I hope you will, too.

An interesting editorial here. The pundit makes a good point about how the new Republican party is in some senses making Congress more "democratic," which doesn't sound "authoritarian." But I think the writer misses the point that one can be anti-institutional and still be rabidly authoritarian. The question is where the authority lies. Part of what makes fascism fascist is the lack of due process: Institutions operate by the whim of the leader, the party, or the mob. And from what I can see, the core grievance of MAGATs is that the formal machinery of law and government denies them the cultural dominance they seek, in which people like them can wield arbitrary power over everyone else. In which case, offices stripped of power and institutions in chaos suit them very well.
