L. Marcus
Re: Longest Running Thread EVER No, that's the Museum of Natural History. A bit of background: As you might remember, I started studying to become a physician last fall. As there's a physician shortage, the program's been expanded in all med schools in Sweden -- Umeå's now got ninety spots per term. Since that will put some strain on the later terms -- six to eleven, the clinical terms -- the university will, in cooperation with the northern regions, "outsource" parts of the training to the three regional hospitals in Sundsvall, Östersund and Sunderbyn/Luleå. The regions are falling over themselves in trying to recruit us. They seem to reason that the earlier a doctor moves to, e. g., Norrbotten, the greater the chance that he/she will stay for keeps. As Norrbottern spends fifty million kronor a year on "relay doctors" -- short-term employments -- for the very sparsely populated interior, they see this as a potential investment. The article above is on half the term -- 45 students -- visiting Sunderbyn, Norrbotten's regional hospital in Luleå; the reporter spoke with us three, who are originaly from the region. L. Marcus
Re: Longest Running Thread EVER "Clearly Worth The Effort". Here's Norrbotten's Wikipedia entry. Just under 100,000 square kilometers -- in the neighborhood of 40,000 square miles, one quarter of Swedens land area -- with a quarter of a million inhabitants. Cancer
Re: Longest Running Thread EVER Still got some papers to grade, but I should finish that this morning, even here at the office. Last night, when it was clear I wasn't going to be able to get them all done, I made sure to do the paper by known dummkopfs while I had the fortifying shot of Tullamore Dew ready at hand. Hopefully the ones left will be easy to mark.

Cancer
Re: Longest Running Thread EVER FINALLY got the last paper graded. Now to do the curves. Unfortunately, that has to be done twice, since there's a systematic difference in the scores of the two final exams. hat didn't happen with the mid-terms.
