Somehow I thought you guys had been there longer. BTW, as someone was discussing swastikas, that one near your door may have been a long-pre-Nazi era design, back when many Americans had them installed apparently in their original vein of good health or prospects or such. How old is your house? Do you know if the same party owned it for a long period before and during the war (i.e., they might be among those few who said "Gaddumit, I ain't-a gonna change just 'causa that danged Hitler fellow!") March 12, 1999 The house was built 1938. The tile is the same type that is near the fireplace area. An appraiser thought the tile might be of german origin, but wasn't sure. The house was sold to us by the man who had grown up in the house. (So two owners, same family). And we didn't even notice the swastika until we were doing some cleaning near the front door. Samuraiko
Re: Musings on Random Musings I hated going to weddings. All the grandmas would poke me saying "You're next". They stopped that when I started doing it to them at funerals. Hence the reason I was so glad when I finally got married. But now the demands for grandchildren have begun. I've been tempted to reply, "Well, we're f***ing like rabbits, so expect one any day now." Michelle aka Samuraiko Brother Jim

It's even worse when you don't want to have children and answer things like: "When are you having children?" "Why don't you have children yet?" "Where's my grandchildren?" Well, I want children, I really do. Unfortunately, I might not be able to have any, and I hate explaining that over and over again to various and sundry relatives. Then again, I've found that a useful deterrent involves me sighing and saying, "Well... if you think the world can handle John and me combined into a single child..." I've seen people go pale. Klytus
Re: Musings on Random Musings Fortunately, I've not had to endure my folks pestering me for grand-kids. Besides, it seems awfuly selfish to me for someone else to ask you to go through all the trouble and hassle of having children just so they can be grandparents. If they want grand-children that baddly, let them give birth to the sorry little bleeders.

My mom and my wife's parents didn't have any desire for grandkids. Which works out fine since they're not getting any. Though when people asked it was always nice to answer, "I'm fixed"

They stopped that when I started doing it to them at funerals. You are SO repped! Can't really do that, myself; no grandparents of my own left, and only my mother-in-law has the inclination to emit such noises. Michelle is better off (i.e. safer) fielding those than I would be.
