James Gillen
Re: Musings on Random Musings Some anime show has just come up on Adult Swim (bear in mind I'm in Mass. now so the time is 3:30)' date=' and I really can't get past those bizarrely exaggerated facial/emotive gestures. It's like watching Shatner on crack.[/quote'] She came from Greece. She had a thirst for knowledge. She studied sculpture at Saint Martin's College. That's where I--caught her eye. She told me that her dad was loaded. I said, in that case I'll have a rum and Coca-Cola. She said fine, and in thirty seconds time she said... I wanna live like common people. I wanna do whatever common people do. I wanna sleep with common people. I wanna sleep with common people like you. Well, what else could I do? I said, I'll see what I can do! I took her to a supermarket. I don't know why, but I had to start it somewhere. So it started there! I said, pretend you've got no money. She just laughed and said, oh, you're so funny! I said, yeah? Well I can't see anyone else smiling in here! Are you sure you want to live like common people? You want to see whatever common people see? You want to sleep with common people? You want to sleep with common people like me? But she didn't understand... ...she just smiled and held my hands! Rent a flat above a shop! Cut your hair and get a job! Smoke some fags and play some pool. Pretend you never went to school. But still you'll never get it right. When you're lyin' in bed at night, Watching roaches climb the wall. If you call your dad he could stop it all. You'll never live like common people! You'll never do whatever common people do! You'll never fail like common people! You'll never watch your life slide out of view, and dance, and drink, and screw! Because there's nothing else to do!

Vanguard00
Re: Musings on Random Musings I have no idea what song or group that is. But I like the lyrics. "Common People" is the name of the song on the album "Has Been", a (mostly) spoken word album by William Shatner, with much collaboration by Ben Folds (of 'Ben Folds Five' fame). Guest artists include Ben Folds (duh), Aimee Mann (former of Til Tuesday, now righteous solo act in her own right), Henry Rollins (former of Black Flag, and a righteous solo act and lyricist), country artist Brad Paisley, guitarist extraordinaire Adrian Belew (player with notables such as Talking Heads, King Crimson, Frank Zappa and David Bowie), Joe Jackson (not a big fan but I like his old stuff) and...um...a couple of others. For a spoken word album--and for William Shatner--it's pretty good stuff.

AliceTheOwl
Re: Musings on Random Musings I loved the movie "Serenity" so I finally broke down and bought it as well as the entire series of "Firefly". Last night I finally sat down to watch the pilot. Wow. On one hand, I am really sorry I never watched the series when it was playing. On the other, I am really happy I never tried to get into it in midseason because the pilot is so integral to setting the tone and direction for everything else. I finally understand the fan base of the series. It is great SciFi. See? SEE???? Actually, that really is the best argument for why it should've stayed on TV and why it's a great series - show someone the first episode, or the first handful, and let them figure it out for themselves. The show speaks for itself, really. And, in the correct order, even more vocally.

James Gillen
Re: Musings on Random Musings I realized last night that I might be a tad bit out of practice with Call of Cthulu when I actually had my Investigator -- Cholmondeley Featherstonehaugh -- "just skim through" the copy of the Pnakotic Manuscripts we'd recovered' date=' to check our information.
