Re: The New Circle

I'm thinking of renaming Feyfire Elffire... and his looks... my girlfriend just said he couldn't be more flaming obvious if he was wearing pink. (She said he looks just like George Michael.)

I dunno...

Then again... I don't have any gay superheroes...

Well, there's no reason he has to be straight. However, athletic yet slightly feminine men get all the female attention they can handle.

Bastards. ;)

Disadvantages

10 Distinctive features: aura of immense extradimensional power--

registers as entity-level being(Concealable; Extreme Reaction;

Detectable only by unusual senses)

15 Physical Limitation--giant machina's size limits its utility

(frequent, greatly impairing)

20 Physical Limitation--must return to Realm Ominus for 2 days after every 12 days gone

(notes: to stay longer than 12 days, make an ego roll, -1 per extra day, so up to 21 days, a 15- roll(due to overall levels)

; at 28 days, an 8- roll; must return no later than 28 days)

15 Social Limitation--responsibilities as dimensional ruler

(Frequently, Major)(he has to monitor events in his realm, preside over ceremony, etc)

20 Vulnerability--hand to hand attacks outside his machina, x2 STUN

15 Watched by Cosmic Council, 8-(Mo Pow, NCI, PC has a Public ID or is otherwise very easy to find, watching)

(The CC is basically kind of a cross between the Q Continuum and the

Republican Senate(with thousands of entities assembling in a giant cosmic

chamber),

designed to meet and resolve transdimensional disputes and other issues--

on good days they are very effective at enforcing peace and discipline,

and on bad days they're more like the worst caricature of the UN)

25 Hunted by Azoth the Lord of Chaos and its minions, 8-

(Mo Pow, NCI, PC has a Public ID or is otherwise easy to find,

Harshly Punish--Azoth is a triune being with three(or 4) manifestations:

Azar the Unforgiving, lord of destruction, Othar the Corruptor, mistress of dark desires,

and Zotha the Many-eyed, invisible except for its eyes and carrier of the Chaos Madness)

15 Hunted by Nefarious Omnius Dei aka Kid Nefarious

(Less Pow, PC has a Public Id or is otherwise easy to find, Harshly Punish--

NOD is an alternate "doppelganger" of ODR who actually slew his mild

mannered father and absorbed his power, then merged with many other evil

selves, though not as many--his schemes are generally more juvenile or

simplistic, and he has the cruelty of the worst adolescent bullies)

15 Hunted by Megarath the Magnificent, 11-

(as Pow, PC is easy to find, mildly punish--

Megarath is a rival dimension lord and an "ex-girlfriend" of ODR

who still carries either a grudge or a torch, depending on what side of the

cosmos she woke up on this eon--

commands a horde of "superion warriors")

15 Hunted by Monstersaurus, 11-(as Pow, Harshly Punish--

Monstersaurus is a Big Giant Monster the same size as the Deus Ex Machina,

the campaign universe equivalent of the Big G)

20 Hunted by the Lollipop Guild, 8-

(Mo Pow, easy to find, harshly punish--

the worst crew of munchkinized fantasy RPG players given real powers,

contracted to snuff Ominus and collect their gold points and experience pieces)

20 Psych Lim--Fear of physical abuse(common, Total)--

note: in a Silver Age game, change this to "Physical coward outside of machina"

15 Psych Lim--protective of friends, fans, teammates and subjects(common, strong)

15 Psych Lim--bores easily, doesn't focus well on repetitive tasks(Very Common, Moderate)

15 Psych Lim--hedonistic pleasure seeker(Very common, moderate)

15 Psych Lim--superbeing fanboy(Very common, moderate)

total: 265 points(+bonus)

Height: 5'10"

Weight: 155 pounds

Hair: Brown

Eyes: Brown

Appearance: extremely handsome young man of mediterranean ethnicity,

usually dressed in the gown of a roman emperor, or wearing a custom

tailored Italian suit. Apparent age late teens/early twenties, when he is

extremely frightened or extremely pleased he may appear to be in his early

teens.

Yipes! It shrank! :)

Um...about 70 to 75 characters per line would work. It's just that with no breaks, it makes a big scrollbar at the bottom of the screen, at least on my setup.

okay, I'm going line by line and adding breaks on all the long stuff(there's a lot!), so hopefully it'll get straightened out and cleaned up. I did the writeup in wordpad, since my HD is offline.

I'm trying really hard to do that' date=' but it looks the same every time on my screen. I'll try a couple different ways--how many characters per line do you want?[/quote']

It was my fault. The widescreen version of the teamshot did the messing, don't blame Megaplayboy.

Yikes! I actually think it may be Skaramine's "The whole team" pic that's making the forum display all wonky.

Although I've seen people's "Location" line of their post do something similar a few times lately, too.

You made all the text smaller, too, didn't you? Anyway, I'd recommend trying ~100 characters per line (roughly), to see if that helps.

I think it differs depending on which setup you're viewing from. Your post stretched the page a little, from my PoV. I was going to say something, and forgot until MPB's post.

So, um, fix your crap too. :)

Re: The New Circle

Okay, Deus Ex Machina, part deux:

Quote: "You have chose the wrong stage to perform upon, for now the Deus Ex Machina will remove you from it!"

Background: Long ago, in a multiverse very similar to our own,

a young boy god of little standing had just completed destroying

his abusive father and absorbing his essence, when he sensed

his very multiverse come under attack by a dark chaotic entity

known as Azoth. with his newfound power(his father had been

a pantheon head) the young deity did what he could to defend

his realm, but sensed that he would fail. He formed a desperate

plan: he would swiftly travel from adjacent multiverse to adjacent

multiverse, finding his counterparts, and absorb both them and

his hated father's doppelgangers. He would use this power to

save his realm, and these others(which were also soon to be

invaded, since they bordered his multiverse). Though he

encountered other resistance in the process, he was highly

successful, and increased his power to a vast extent. In the

process he consolidated thousands of realms in their entirety,

and dozens if not hundreds of others in partiality. Inadvertently

in the process of protecting the nigh infinite inhabitants of the

"Realm Ominus" from the Chaos Madness, he permanently overrode

everyone's free will--they now seemed to live only to serve him.

Though he spent eons trying to reverse the effect, he was never

able to find a way he found satisfactory. Though there were endless

pleasures and benefits to being a dimensional lord, there was one

great drawback. Aside from the occasional need to defend his realm,

and also for "protective" annexations/invasions of other dimensions,

there was little challenge or novelty in this existence for the young

entity. Eternal boredom seemed to be thew reward for all of his hard

work and sacrifice. But in some of these realms there had been

beings known as "superheroes" who dressed in colorful costumes,

had colorful names and many exciting adventures. Such beings

fascinated Ominus. He couldn't decide whether to be a hero or

a villain, but wanted to join in such a fun "game". Ominus crafted

a gigantic metallic warrior colossus out of the purest Adamant,

and travelled to a dimension untouched by Chaos. There he found

the city of Rome on the planet Earth, and intended to attack the

city to get superheroes to fight him. But apparently a giant fire-

breathing dinosaur had beaten him to it. Ominus showed his

displeasure by attacking the monster. After a tough fight, the god

in the machine defeated Monstersaurus, and discovered to his

surprise that the inhabitants of the city were cheering him on.

Apparently they regarded him as a superhero. And they were

lauding him of their own free will. Ominus was deeply touched,

and vowed to do his best to play the role of a superhero whenever

he could. He still had to keep track of the Realm Ominus, but now

he had something more fulfilling to occupy his free time with.

(Silver Age Villain option: Ominus chose to be a supervillain instead,

and repeatedly showed up with one elaborate/esoteric scheme

after another.

NPC option: Ominus occasionally tries to do heroic or villainous things,

but regards it all as a big game, his chief aim being to hang out with

all the wonderful supers.)

Powers/Tactics:

In his own realm, Deus Ex Machina is nearly omnipotent--only

a determined group of iconic heroes or master villains could hope

to subdue or defeat him. In this dimension he is much less powerful,

hence the need for the colossus. The giant warrior is immensely

strong and tough, but is an easy target for attack, and most of his

divine abilities can not be targeted out of the machina. Outside of

the armored giant Ominus can work miracles with a mere gesture,

but if his hands are restrained he can do little. Typically

D.Ex Machina will first attempt to grab and subdue lesser foes,

and smash worthy opponents. Occasionally he will draw his sword

and shield to face a particularly deadly foe. Outside of his machina,

Ominus prefers to use his powers to subdue his foes in creative ways,

rather than simply pummeling them with raw power.

He is extremely reluctant to engage any foe in hand to hand combat

outside of his machina. Since he needs to use his hands(or at least

wiggle his fingers) to use his power, even a simple entangle can

cause him great inconvenience.

Campaign Use: Affable mega-hero eager to help, a literal

"deus ex machina" to help out when the PCs have bitten off way

more than they can possibly chew. Or a comic relief mega-villain

who shows up to pester the PCs(ala Myxzlpltk,

Impossible Man, et al) before they find a way to exploit his

weaknesses and send him packing. Or something in between.

Since he has a museum of Alternate Earths, it's possible he could be

a means of kick-starting a "Champions in 3-D" style campaign.

Personality/motivation: Ominus Deus Rex is basically a boy-man in

personality. Though he is well-accustomed to getting literally

anything and everything he wants without limit, he is surprisingly

game and receptive to the give and take he encounters with

other heroes. He is very friendly, almost overeager at times,

because he really has had very few true friends over the milennia.

He is extremely unimpressed by displays of welath, fame, power,

or sexual prowess, since he has "been there, done that"

10,000 times over. He is extremely impressed by heroism and

sacrifice--it inspires him. If asked about his realm, he will speak

about it cordially and gradually, but is reluctant to invite anyone

to his realm, as there is a strong possibility that prolonged stays

will sap their free will like it has everyone else. Due to his father's

abuse, Ominus is extremely fearful of physical attack when he is

not inside his Machina. Under assault and duress, he will tend to

emotionally collapse. Ominus' maturity varies greatly--at times he

seems very boyish, and at other times he will display the maturity

of a very old being. His biggest flaw is that he bores very easily,

and long team briefings are the least enjoyable aspect of

superheroing to him.

Re: The New Circle

The Dimension Commandoes 2

Captain Steve Charlton pulled on the wheel, listening to radio chatter from the ships in the neighborhood. The Hub had spotted this incursion, passed the word to him and his team, and here he was flying over the Pacific wondering what was going on.

"It's a boundary crosser, Captain," said a voice in Charlton's radio.

Charlton had sent one of his team ahead. Mister Mist was an expert at getting into places he shouldn't be in, and liked to sneak around anyway. His voice was a conglomeration of dozens of other voices all talking together like an out of sync chorus. He also knew when something had crossed part of the veil to reach their part of reality.

"Trouble on your six, Cap," said another, more distinct voice in Charlton's mind. "Better look after yourself."

Charlton knew better than to disregard that other voice, even if he was the only one that heard it. He concentrated on the steering yoke, eyes closed for the few seconds he needed. Suddenly he was standing at the stern of the plane, scanning the sky while also piloting in the cockpit. Two flares told him that a pair of strange aircraft were trailing the drop ship.

A glimpse of the future told him that the two trailing craft would fire on his. He wouldn't have known except for the voice in his ear. He let his concentration slip so he could function in the real world again.

"We have unfriendlies on our six, Q-man," Charlton said into his intercom. "Take them out. Everyone else, get ready to board that other craft while we provide a distraction."

"Thanks again, Duck," he whispered to himself, "wherever you are."

******

Steve Charlton had always known where things were, what was the likeliest thing to happen. It was usually a feeling of some type, never anything distinct. That changed when he and his best friend, Waylon ‘Duck' Stodge, died.

The boys were ice fishing not far from Steve's grandparents' house. The Charlton family lived within walking distance for generations. Each son, or daughter, moved to a house close to the ancestral homestead, or bought land and built a house on it. The Stodges had moved to the neighborhood and the boys had hit it off right away.

On this particular day, they had went to a local lake that had frozen over during the night to do a little fishing. They hadn't expected to catch anything. It was an excuse to goof off from their chores. In this case, tragedy struck when the ice cracked and sent the boys to the bottom of the lake. Steve passed out from oxygen deprivation as he tried to get out of the freezing water. His parents found him at the lake's edge.

Duck's body was never found.

Steve's feelings grew until he saw pictures of what was going to happen, what had happened, and what was going on a good distance away. This helped him when he joined the Air Force and became a pilot. He put in his time quietly, listening to the warning voice in his head when it spoke.

He came to believe that Duck Stodge was still alive somewhere and warning him of danger, and when the opportunity to gain access to other dimensions needed someone like him, he jumped at the chance. His best friend is alive and he won't stop until he has found him.

Re: The New Circle

My apologies--there are a handful of math errors on the DXM writeup--I hand typed the character into wordpad before copying to the board. The dupes should be about 3000 points after paying for duplication, not 4000. The powers in the multipower for the Machina should all be indirect(+1/4), to allow them to work through the force wall--I changed the costs, but I'm not sure they're completely accurate.

I don't have a lot of experience doing 5-digit writeups(does anybody)?

Re: The New Circle

Boneface is a teammate of Dragonstar's, and has the potential for being a character of mystical origin. He's inspired by three of my favorite heroes, Nightwing, Nightcrawler and Captain America.

I introduce, Kurt Dixon, Boneface
