Logan D. Hurricanes
Re: Who is the best Archaic/Anachronism/whatever in comics? Wasn't there a caveman in Metamorpho' date=' 25 years ago or so?[/quote'] Good call! Java was A caveman who was frozen in prehistoric times and revived by Simon Stagg, who helped him adapt to the modern age. Java fell in love with Stagg's daughter Sapphire, but she only loved Rex Mason, Metamorpho. Best picture I could find...
McCoy
Re: Who is the best Archaic/Anachronism/whatever in comics? Who was/is your favorite Cowboy in comics? Dell/Gold Key count? Then The Lone Ranger. The Two-Gun Kid in the Avengers was my favorite anachronistic cowboys. Always as a teen bougth ever issue of The Rawhide Kid, now realize that he went shirtless more than all the others put together, not suprised he Came Out. Who was/is your favorite Ninja in comics? Kitty Pryde in her miniseries with Wolverine. Only time the character was handled correctly. Psylock a distant second, possibly because she is the only character in comics with a more convoluted origin than Cable. Who was your favorite Knight in comics? I'm going with Shining Knight on this one. Who was your favorite Archer/Robin Hood type? Hawkeye, no contest. Got any other favorites? (Samuraii, Cavemen, etc) Not archaic, but anacronistic. Adam Strange, with the 50's jet pack and ray gun.

He was a cowboy hero type crossed with Mandrake the Magician and a bit of the Phantom, people thought he was a ghost because he used clever tricks and modified stage magic to fool them. There was more to it than that, but that's the basic concept.
Blue
Re: Who is the best Archaic/Anachronism/whatever in comics? Don't know about the "Night Rider" thing. I kind of lost track of him, as he hasn't been used much lo these many decades. But here's the Ghost Rider we're discussing.
Enforcer84
Re: Who is the best Archaic/Anachronism/whatever in comics? Fedifensor
Re: Who is the best Archaic/Anachronism/whatever in comics? While I like Hawkeye, I always viewed him as a rip-off...er, Marvel's answer to Green Arrow. Maybe Green Arrow has gone downhill a bit in recent years (with the exception of his portrayal on the JLU animated series), but I have fond memories of some of his classic appearances. Especially the Green Lantern/Green Arrow team-ups.
gojira
Re: Who is the best Archaic/Anachronism/whatever in comics? Just a few questions on superheroes with what some would see as 'archaic' themes (since the cowboy thread took off): Who was/is your favorite Cowboy in comics? None... Who was/is your favorite Ninja in comics? The ninjas from The Tick was the best answer here... but I have to go with Psylocke just 'cause she's such a babe. Who was your favorite Knight in comics? not into knights either... Who was your favorite Archer/Robin Hood type? nor archers... Got any other favorites? (Samuraii, Cavemen, etc) hehe, Paul the Samurai... Anachronism: Captain America. He's like from the Fifties... Swamp Thing was cool. I pretty much like the more straight up, less gimicky characters. Iron Man, Captain Marvel (before the whole I'm dead but I got better thing), Vision, etc...
McCoy
Re: Who is the best Archaic/Anachronism/whatever in comics? While I like Hawkeye' date=' I always viewed him as a rip-off...er, Marvel's answer to Green Arrow. [/quote'] Definitely a feedback loop there. The Golden Age Green Arrow was Batman with a different stitck, even as far as the obligatory kid sidekick, the arrow cave, arrow car, and (I kid you not) arrow plane. I'm sure he was the original inspiration for Hawkeye, introduced as a villian in Iron Man ("villian" is a harsh word here, he was a wantabe crimefighter who fell in with bad company). He reformed, joined the Avengers, and provided the hotheaded youth contrast to Cap's mature leadership. Time passed. Wonder woman lost her powers and took a leave of absence from the Justice League, leaving them without a distaff member. Black Canary came from Earth 2 to fill that slot, and Green arrow had a radical costume and personality alteration between issues. The new, Siver Age Green Arrow was, to be blunt, Hawkeye. So while Ollie was the first to draw a bow, Clint was the first with the outspoken rebeliousness.
assault
Re: Who is the best Archaic/Anachronism/whatever in comics? Who was/is your favorite Cowboy in comics? Vigilante. Who was/is your favorite Ninja in comics? Manhunter (Goodwin/Simonson). Although it's a particularly bogus variety of "ninja", these stories are classic. Who was your favorite Knight in comics? Shining Knight. Who was your favorite Archer/Robin Hood type? Green Arrow. Got any other favorites? (Samuraii, Cavemen, etc) Caveman: Gnarrk. Honorary Mention: Jimmy Olsen. As far as I know that was the first use of that name for a character. Now look at this from my 'old guy' perspective: "There's a _biker_ Ghost Rider?!" heh heh heh heh

Duke Bushido
Re: Who is the best Archaic/Anachronism/whatever in comics? Yeah! That's the guy! Though I didn't realize it had a bring-back in the sixties. I can well imagine that it wouldn't do well under the comics code-- it was pretty cussed grim, way back when. I shudder at a 'light' version of it..... Makes sense that the artist would be the Jonah Hex guy, too. As I understand it, horses are a particular drawing challenge. Though I suspect that's more because a fair number of people now go their whole lives without seeing one in motion. Thanks for the flashback and the memories, Phil! ross_winn
Re: Who is the best Archaic/Anachronism/whatever in comics? Who was/is your favorite Cowboy in comics? Myself, I'd go with Jonah Hex. Though superheroes seemed rare as his comic was often purely Western (at least the ones I read) Jonah Hex will shortly be starring in a new eponymous series. Yeah! ross_winn
Re: Who is the best Archaic/Anachronism/whatever in comics? Who was/is your favorite Cowboy in comics? Jonah Hex is just over Tex Arcana, and I mean just. Who was/is your favorite Ninja in comics? Batgirl Who was your favorite Knight in comics? The Dark Knight, of course. Who was your favorite Archer/Robin Hood type? Oliver Queen, no question. Got any other favorites? (Samuraii, Cavemen, etc) Usagi Yojimbo is my favorite Samurai. Kamandi is my favorite caveman (if you don't know who that is then you are too young )
