CHAR: Iron Man

Re: CHAR: Iron Man

when this thread started, I posted a brief summary of powers for the suits taken from a previously published book, it amounted to a total of less than a page, but was that too much information to avoid violating copyrights?

if folks feel I posted too much, I will pull it

thats why I only posted the rough lists of powers and not any values etc

I post quite a bit of Traveller/Traveller oriented material, but I am posting the traveller material within set guidelines obtained from author and copyright holder

and even then I at least try and be careful what I am posting

course with traveller having gone through 5 seperate editions, and 4 different publishers for the main books alone, its hard to keep track of who held what and who to ask for permission

No, you merely listed his weaponry. No stats, no material directly from the book.

And it looks like I didnt' get to it last night. "BAD CHAD!" NO BISCUIT!

I have a game tonight so I won't do it today, but there's still next week!

WOW. 75 responses and I hadn't even really posted anything near a complete character!

Let me know what you think so far.

BTW: Thanks again to Gadgets & Gear for inspiration at least!

Re: CHAR: Iron Man

Not more than anyone else who isn't in to the whole magic thing.

I wouldn't give him any special defenses against magic, but I wouldn't give him any special susceptibilities to it either.

TB

He doesn't deny its existance but he hates magic because he doesn't understand it and it violates certain physical laws. He basically sees magic as a type of science that he doesn't understand.

From what I have been able to understand about this topic is that in the marvel universe magic requires that a person put their reason aside and accept that there are higher powers in the universe that need to be called upon. Science is based on reasoning out the universe and gaining from that reasoning.

Re: CHAR: Iron Man

Hi, Anyone out there got an Ironman.hdc I can use?

I'm a GM with a NEW on-liine player who wants to be IRON MAN.

He's new to the system and I'm pushed for time.

I have a registered version3 of Hero Designer.

Thanks in advance.

:)

I've got the initial stab posted above as a starting point but with the hdc I can tweak it.

Well, as you can see Iron Man clocks in at around 1000 pts. Unless you're running a non-standard campaign that probably won't be a starting character.

Your best bet would be to start with Defender, and tweak him a little bit, change around some of the disadvantages and a few powers. The Champions team in Champions are specifically designed as good starter characters and examplars of their type.

So' date=' do I need a combat computer?[/quote']

Depends on what you want it to do. Certainly a level or two based on a combat analysis computer is reasonable.

But what you really need to give him is seduction. Tony's always been a ladies man. ;)

yea, in the "combined Thread" I think I posted hdc files for everyone. Look in the Marvel/DC link in my signature.

Re: CHAR: Iron Man

When I used to read the Avengers' date=' I never got the impression that he was drastically lower in STR than the other big hitters, like Wonder Man or the Vision. If Thor has 115 STR, 50 sounds way too low for Iron Man. Maybe 75 or so. His usual M.O. was a repulsor blast or two, invariable followed by lots of fisticuffs.[/quote']

Old Thor in Avengers was only about a 60 STR so was the Hulk up and until the mid to late 80's. Hulk was listed as weighing 1000 lbs and being able to lift 200 times as much (at a calm). At the time Toney could lift 75 tonnes in the Iron man armor. Keep in mind a metric ton is 200 lbs more then a tonne in lbs. Starks armor now can lift 80 tonnes that's it. Depending on the suit this would sometimes be 90 tonnes, but we're looking at a STR of 58 realistically. Stark relies on his repolser blasts mostly anyway.

Today I just don't know for sure. Last I checked during the world war Hulk saga there was a quote that might indicate Hulks current STR. She-Hulk demonstrated her STR by punching the concrete, which left a big crater. She then said "the Hulk is capable of 1000 times this force". She Hulk is still written as capable of lifting 100 tonnes. That would put Hulks STR at 110 roughly by champions standards. Thor's been given an equal boost and I'd currently place his STR at 100 likely not on par with Hulk anymore but close. He has class seven STR which currently means beyond 400 tonnes

No way Toney's armor is that powerfull even with extremeous tech.

Marvel lift tons have absolutely no relation to real world weights, as many, many, many, many, many comics have shown in the Marvel Universe.

The Hulk is capable of lifting millions of real world tons, this was average every day Hulk during the Secret Wars saga when he held an entire mountain on his shoulders. The WW Hulk is several orders of magnitude more powerful, we are probably talking billions of tons here.

Re: CHAR: Iron Man

You don't have to name the conflict. You can always just refer to him as a tech consultant for the military who has frequently been over-seas in combat zones checking actual field results. i.e., most recent, recognizable, conflict. Sad that history makes that as convenient as it does, but there it is. This is a problem with a lot of Marvel heroes.

Not this argument again. I just read the issue you're referring 3 weeks ago just to confirm what I already new. The Hulk at the time had retained a portion of Bruce's intellect and could rationalize coherently. Hulk stated that he was not lifting up millions of tonnes but merely bracing the mountain with his leverage. Read the comic and you'll see how small the hole they were in was relative to the entire mountain. He was in no way bearing the brunt of any more then the tiniest fraction of the mountains weight. He says as much himself.

In physics there are different kinds of force, and you are grossly simplifying things by coming to the above conclusion.

By your argument a small concrete pillar in a parking garage can bear the weight of an entire 40 story building. That has to be 1000nds of ktons yet I can wreck the pillar by driving my car into it at full speed. That must mean that my car is exerting 1000nds of ktons of force. That sounds like Palladium Hero's Unlimited logic to me. Keep in mind the pillar (in this case Hulk) is only supporting a fraction of the overall weight of the object.

There are several issues were they state exactly what Hulk can lift. I read an issue from 1985 that said exactly how much. Of course as I stated before many of Mavel's hero's have been powered up. It may be difficult if not impossible to pin a certain number on Hulk's STR as it is now. My attempt was merely an educated guess

Re: CHAR: Iron Man

I don't have an issue with the hulk lifting a mountain as much as I do the mountain surviving the experience without coming apart. ;)

Again he didn't lift the mountain. He was bracing the small upper peak of the mountain in a tiny hole he was wegged in with some other heros. It was very realistic given the realm of superhero physics.

Doesn't matter - do you know much about geology and mountain formation; or just basic physics? It would have broken apart above him leverage or no. Just like an aircraft carrier would end up with a hole punched in the bottom where he was standing if he tried to pick it up. There's nothing "realistic" about super-hero physics. In fact the phrase "it was very realistic given the realm of super-hero physics" boggles the mind. The leverage reference was a skimpy fig-leaf for bold-faced fantasy. Nothing more, nothing less.

Lets pretend for a moment were talking about a bat cave. In this case it's a small one. For whatever reason the caves become unstable due to a fissure. The only thing holding the cave together is a small column of stone. The cave is already being held together, it's just unstable. A bad jostle to the support may cause a cave in. It not to say the the top bottom and sides of this structure are being held together by this lowly piece of stone. The stone is just bracing

Yes I do realize there is a leap of faith one has to make when reading comics but there is no indication that the Hulk is lifting the whole mountain. It does not take a University physics professor to realize this. The comic even states he's not, so how can you even argue this point?

Aren't we off track from the post. Something about Iron can't remember.
