The Remarkable Wrong-Righters -- Basic Character Concepts

As I have mentioned on a couple of threads, I am adding a new Champions event to my convention offerings this year. The event is a spin-off from my SuperSquad America event and is intended to be more light-hearted in nature. So, I present the basic line-up for The Remarkable-Wrong-Righters:

Rick Davies the Resilient Rubber-Man:
Growing tired of the drama that surrounded SuperSquad America and wanting superheroing to be fun again, Rick jumped at the offer to become leader of the new team. Rick is a stretching character with some scientific skills.

Swift Kick (Anita Dupuis Davies):
Rick's wife. She left SuperSquad America not only because her husband did, but because she wanted to expand her normal ID's acting career. Swift Kick is publicly a martial artist with a small amount of Growth, Density Increase, and Shriking. Secretly, she is also a metamorph who can assume any humanoid shape.

Friction Lass (Alicia Chace):
A former member of SuperSquad America who left several years ago to join Team Disney, Disney's corporate superhero group. When Disney decided to disband the group, she begged her wealthy father to basically buy her a new one. As the name implies, Friction Lass controls friction. Unfortunately, she also sometimes causes it because she's a bit of a spoiled brat who loves using her great looks to get her own way. She's grown up a bit since her days with the Squad, but she still has a ways to go.

Rampart (Owen Cavanaugh):
A powered armor character who could also be called a flying brick with some energy projection powers. Essentially, Owen was a contestant on a reality TV show where ordinary normals got their chance to be superheroes. The producers had arranged with EAGLES (the SuperSquad America universe equivalent of PRIMUS) to borrow a suit of power armor that EAGLES had obtained but didn't seem to do much except protect the wear. That was until Owen put it on. For some as yet unknown reson, Owen is able to make the armor do things that no one else seems able to. EAGLES agreed to let Owen have the armor on extended loan providing he files complete reports on the armor's abilities.

Spook (Jeremy Cross):
Jeremy Cross was a member of a secret intelligence agency assigned to infiltrate the mystical organization OMEN. Unfortunately, Jeremy's cover was blown by a double agent and he was sacrificed in a mystical ritual. However, due to the nature of the ritual, his spirit never passed on to the Realms of the Dead. Over time, he has learned to coalescence his ectoplasm into a solid form that lets him interact with the normal world. But when he wants he can assume a more traditional ghostly form. With his espionage background, Jeremy is often the team tactician and infiltration expert. He wonders if he should be trying to pass on to the Realms while simultaneously worried that some mystical foe may take that choice out of his hands.

Deus X (Malcolm "Mal" Jefferson):
A young African-American man who is the son of 1960s civil rights activists. However, despite his parents' best attempts, he never really cared much about social activism. He'd rather play video games. Then one day, he discovered that he has was able to control his X-box without the controller. He quickly discovered other cyberkinetic powers and at his parents' urging, he became the superhero Deus X. He based the name off the phrase "Deus ex machina" meaning "God from the machine" but choosing the X spelling as an inside joke to refer both to Malcolm X for whom he was named and to the X-box he was playing when his powers activated.

Charm (Tiffany Trewes):
Tiffany is a 18-year old former high school cheerleader who has some kind of magical powers based on the charms on her charm bracelet. I could use some ideas on common charms and how they might translate into powers. She's the most underdeveloped character at this point. Any ideas would be appreciated.

Lady Lightning:
Lady Lightning is a pretty typical flying energy projector Of course, the lady designator is somewhat inaccurate, since she's not really a lady or even human. She is actually a sophisticated artificial life form created as a graduate project at the Pacific Institute of Technology for use as a remote controlled superhero. She gained sentience as a result of a lab accident involving a lightning blast. Rescued by an as-yet-to-be-determined group of superheroes from her creators who wanted to remove her developing intelligence because it wasn't part of the project specs, her intelligence has reached the point where she is ready to set out on her own as a superhero. Fortunately, being a superhero was what she was meant to do and she was created with the knowledge and skills to be one. Unfortunately, she wasn't meant to be a human being and still needs to develop the social skills to really fit in.

The team is based out of a beach house in Malibu, California and may also feature a liaison to Friction Lass' father who is financing the whole operation.

In terms of tone, while my SuperSquad America event can be compared to the Wolfman/Perez Teen Titans, I think the Remarkable Wrong-Righters will be closer to Peter David's Young Justice. That is, humor will be played up and some bits may be over-the-top, but it is not a parody.

More information on Rick Davies, Swift Kick, and Friction Lass can be found at www.supersquadamerica.com.

So, what do you think? Comments? Suggestions? All feedback is welcome.

A superhero team based out of a Malibu beach house and not one superhero with a surfboard? C'mon! How can you miss that?!? :D

Sorry, I can't help but see Charm's civilian name and misread the surname as Towers, and get distracted from there. :o

Common charms to powers:

  • Heart: Maybe an EGO-based Drain whose sfx are scary chest pains.
  • Kitty: Summons a feline familiar? Or perhaps lets her morph into cat form?
  • Crescent Moon: Causes temporary "lunacy", probably via an Images effect she can specify
  • Horse or Unicorn: Summons one of those as transportation or perhaps combat ally
  • Various colored gemstones: various sorts of energy blasts (red --> fire; blue --> cold; etc.)
  • Flowers: an Entangle with a floral sfx, like rose-thorn vines, etc.? Perhaps an aroma-based NND attack?

Some more charms:

  • Car: creates a car; suped up model, of course.
  • Shoe: very, very fast running.
  • Tennis racket: No idea, sorry.
  • Violin (or other musial instrument): sonic-based mind/emotion control.
  • Mortarboard: major Aid to her INT.

BTW, as alternates: the Heart could be a Mind Control, only to create friendly-to-amorous feelings towards her and the Moon could be a Darkness field.

I don' think you have to worry too much about limiting your power selections with Charm... there are a lot of different types of charms...

here are some examples... by category...

That looks like it could definitely provide some inspiration. Thanks.

Perhaps Charm should have a variable pool, based on which charms she's wearing at the time.

Most likely, Charm will just have a large multipower of charms, simply because it's easier to handle in a convention game.

Actually, Charm's real name is likely to change from Tiffany Trewes as I remembered the other day I had intended to make her Mexican-American to help add a little cultural diversity.
