WWYCD: Out of Focus, in the know

While attempting to thwart Tesseract (Or some other similar villain) Your character gets blasted by one of her attacks which either knocks your hero out, or buys her time to escape. However, after the battle, your character finds his or her vision is a bit blurry. The police arrive, and you notice one of the Detectives has a ghost like figure following him, and the Detective seems to have an ethereal metal hoop, with spikes, protruding into his head. The ghost like figure presses buttons on his own wristband, mostly before every decision the Detective makes. No one else seems to notice the figure.

 

Indeed, over 90% of those in a position of Authority in the city seem to have a similar attendant at least visiting them from time to time, particularly when important choices are being made.

 

Even some of the NPC superheroes in the city (if there are any) have the same.

 

What would your character do?

Essentially these invaders from the 6th Dimension are indeed taking over thanks to Trandimensional Advantages on certain powers equipment. Your character has 24 hours where their senses work 'partially in phase' with it, but they can not hurt the attendents unless they have a similar advantage on their attack or can cross completely to that otherworld. The Attendents will, of course, notice if the attempt is made, and influence authority figures to think the hero has gone insane if they try to point the 'invasion' out, and lock them up "for their own good". Mental Awareness will not sense the mind control at work unless they too are in phase but DIRECT Telepathy with a victim will possibly pick this up even for NPC telepaths who aren't in phase if they can make an Ego +20 roll

Okay, my characters are totally unfamiliar with that kind of supernatural foes.

 

Primadonna: After realizing that her sonic powers don't work against the ghosts, she will be more than happy to go go and see a specialist, and maybe think about psycho therapy.

 

Primaballerina: Even her unsurpassed martial arts will not harm the ghostly intruders. She will actively be seeking help, be it an occult master, earth's arch-mage or whoever will be available. She will definetely drag primadonna along and try to convince her not to go into psycho therapy.

 

Diva: She'll be the first to go into psycho therapy. And that should be done in a five-star luxury spa. She'll not accept the existance of ghosts.

Well, by "ghost like" I mean not seeming completely there..not necessarily the spirits of dead people.

Yes I know, but the Fist Ladies would declare everybody they couldn't touch to be a ghost.

 

They probably would guess that these "aliens" are not the mental or "soul" remains of dead people.

TN Lung: Would regard it as one of those incomprehensible alien quirks of humanity and would innocently mention their spirit companions in casual conversation.

 

Riptide: Would zip down the coast to check out whether other cities were the same as this one to his eyes. Then probably seek out a mentalist.

 

The Wizard of Oz Incorporated: Would assume this is exactly what it appears to be, and start working on a device to allow himself to interact with these creatures and their devices.

 

Hellfire would just plain freak and start trying to attack the phantoms, fairly quickly ending up locked up.

interesting... I wonder if they'd be visible to Vitus's magical senses. Zero's mental ones would apparently be more than sufficient.

 

Either way, Vitus would be happy to test whether inserting 11d6 of Auraflow energy into the Attendants head-space would be terminally disruptive.

 

He'ld probably prepare a few "True-Seeing" lenses in advance and hand them around, just in case his colleagues don't believe him.

Yes, any connection between Vitus and Cthulhu is alarming - because amongst the the various plans he's drafted is his scheme to sacrifice a Great Old One, and use that energy to remake his lost home universe.

 

Or just write over this one, whichever is quicker.

Ah, this one plays right into my hands...

 

 

Wormhole: Would use his Gatemaster Belt to shift into their dimension, then sneak up on one of the aliens and say, "Dude, you know you're propably giving people brain cancer with those gizmos."

At that point, it's time to kick some alien butt. Wormhole may not be classifiable as one of the "good guys", but he won't sit on his @$$ and allow something like this to go on.

Only Olorin, of my heroes, could do somthing about this easily by himself. If an another dimension or desolid, he could get to these guys and find out what is going on and deal with them. He could bring others along as backup. He has dimension travel, but kinda has to know where he is going - most of the time.

Mmm, perhaps it was a bit tough. Apologies if it seemed like a no win.

I suppose you could try to find unaffected allies. You could try to communicate with the ghosts...you could steal a supervillains high tech dimensizwhatzit

Jake the Troll - walks up to the ghost and asks what it's doing. (Supernatural/Transdimensional stuff is pretty darned instinctual to him.)

 

Icon - check to see if the entities in question show up on her "detect all forms of energy, including inter-dimensional energy, psychic energy, and magic energy" scan. If so, go from there; probably could figure out how to smack one of them, but it would take some experimentation with her powers.

 

 

Shinji Miromoto - another person with "detect inter-dimensional energy" - would treat it as a form of possession, which he actually has a good deal of experience with. Like Icon, could probably whip something up out of his Dark Energy VPP.

 

Widower - Not a clue. Wouldn't know how to handle this one, as it's completely outside his experience.

Soulbarb: High-powered version has enough mojo available to be able to whip up a few appropriare 'affects transdimensional' powers. She already has a good amount of affects desolid, and given her origin this would not be a huge stretch for her. Low-powered version... doesn't really have enough experience yet to be able to deal with this directly herself, but she can probably find help in her list of occult-related contacts. A GM plot device or two to make it possible for her to participate in the adventure, and she'll be in the thick of things, trying to figure out the extent of the plot, who the ringleaders are, and how best to put a stop to it.

 

Sylph: At something of a loss, but doubless Dionysius will know a thing or two about alternate dimensions and may be able to lend a timely hand.

Nova: would guess the accident has re-tuned his cosmic awareness senses to work on the other-dimensional intruders, would likely try to retune his TK and energy control powers to work on them, too.

 

Elementalor: this is totally outside his field of expertise, would likely try (after some futile attempts to affect them with his powers) to get help from some mentalist or reality manipulator (AKA magician: he's a kind of skeptic).

Enigma: Panic for a good three minutes.

 

Then kick into hyper-research mode, looking into any kind of references to this in arcane texts. Get Built-To-Last involved and see if the two of them can create magic infused technology that can shut down the controls. Or better yet, go to that dimension and see if there are seeds of dissention among the people - start the rebellion on their home turf.

 

Hope others on the team have some ideas!

Knight Rider - go "Whoot!" finally I get some use out of the affects desol part of my EB.

 

I only really bought the advantage to simulate tachyons going-through-things-ness.

 

Sorry, I know that's not really in character.

 

She's a respected and successful business woman with contacts and an UNTIL badge. SHe'd start scoping out all her associates and UNTIL friends and superiors and build a network of people she can trust. And see about mass-producing her tachyon blaster.
