He's well built, with dark skin, a mustache, and handsome looks. A former W.W.II fighter pilot, he flew with the 332nd Fighter Group (the "Lonely Eagles") and had an unconfirmed 53 kills. After contracting the wild card virus he gained the power of flight, as well as the ability to project a telekinetic battering ram. He normally wears a black leather flier's jacket, a white scarf, a black flight helmet with goggles, and black boots. Under his jacket he wears his old US Army Air Corps uniform with the insignia removed. He was recruited into the Four Aces, but left the country after HUAC ripped them apart. Campaign Use and Designer’s Notes: Here you go -- one Golden Age super hero all ready to go. He’s a bit unconventional (seeing as he’s been soured on democracy and has turned to Marxism), but he’s still a hero. You might want to give him so Life Support so he can breathe when moving at 240” a Phase, and maybe some Life Support versus Cold so he can fly at high altitudes. Redmenace
Re: Wild Card's Hero I stopped after Card Sharks. I didn't really like how the characters were being treated anymore. Death Draws Five is more like the early WC novels or so it seemed to me. I thought it was fast paced with lots of plot twists and after so long it was nice to see what was happening with some of the characters. On a purely selfish note, I always like reading about Billy Ray doing what he does.

He stands 6' and weighs 170 lbs. A popular and well known TV evangelist, he truly believes that the Wild Card virus is the tool of the Devil. He is disgusted by jokers and feels that their jokerdom is an expression of their sins. On the other hand, he does try and feel compassion for the jokers themselves, a sort of "hate the sin, but love the sinner" attitude. Eventually, he becomes President (in the Card Sharks books) and his ambition and disgust has grown to genocidal proportions. Campaign Use and Designer’s Notes: Every campaign can use an evangelist, so all you need to do is edit Leo’s Psychological Limitations and you’re all set. You could drop him into Fantasy Hero, Pulp Hero, and Dark Champions settings with ease. (Leo Barnett created by Arthur Byron Cover, character sheet created by Michael Surbrook) Love these! Leo Barnett should have Healing, 12d6, Fully Invisible and Requires an Ego Roll; he performs faith healings that actually work, even though he doesn't read as infected with the virus. Spidey88
Re: Wild Card's Hero Hmm... Correct me if I'm wrong, but I think it's just "Deuces Down" that's between "Card Sharks" and " Death Draws Five". I did just finish "Death Draws Five" this afternoon: while I wouldn't say it feels the same as some of the earlier novels (IMHO), it isn't too far off. John J. Miller was the sole author, and as a result, the book is mostly populated with his characters (Billy Ray, a dash of Yeoman and Wraith, Father Squid, John Nighthawk) - but there's a lot of others in it too (Peregrine, Fortunato, Jerry Strauss, and a few others). Alas, no Sleeper in this one. A general overview of the book: eh. Not bad. Not nearly as dark as some of the books, that's for sure (for good or for bad). I didn't care much for "Midnight Angel" - I found her to be rather one-dimensional, and bordering on a sexist portrayal at times. A "strong woman"-type religious fanatic who's got issues actually being "strong". Still, it was nice seeing Billy Ray in a lot of the spotlight. Captain Trips (named after the late Jerry Garcia), has the ability to transform himself into a number of different forms, or "friends." Each of these alternate personalities are potent aces in their own right, although that doesn't mean they will agree with what ever it is the good Captain is involved in. Mark Meadows is tall and very thin, standing 6'2" and weighing about 160 lbs. He has shoulder length hair and a goatee. He is exceedingly intelligent and is probably the most brilliant biochemist in the world. He is also quite the burned-out hippie. As Captain Trips, Mark wears (in effect) a purple and white Uncle Sam suit, complete with top hat and a flower in the button hole. Each of his "friends" however, looks very different. It should be noted that Mark has assumed two other forms aside from the five mentioned here. One is the Radical, a youthful blonde-haired man clad only in jeans and wearing a peace medallion. The other was called Monster, stood something like 60' tall and was strong enough to toss around T-72 tanks with ease. Campaign Use and Designer’s Notes: Captain Trips is probably a bit much for any campaign (unless you like really unconventional ideas). However, if you break up his “friends” then you just gained five new NPCs for your setting. Of the five, I’d say Jumping Jack Flash, Moonchild, and Star Shine make the transition to 4-color comics best. I mean, who can’t use a flying energy projector, a shadow-dwelling martial artist, and a flying solar-powered brick? Traveler's actual appearance is of a stoop-shouldered man with a thin chest, arms, and legs and a slight pot belly. Among his ace powers is the ability to change his shape, so he normally looks much more imposing. Traveler has a number of powers, including Desolidification, Invisibility, Flight, and a powerful will. He's also a total coward, and is prone to flee from any threatening situation. Campaign Use and Designer’s Notes: Cosmic Traveler is pretty much a background NPC, although you can have some fun with his bombastic attitude coupled with his cowardice. He has red hair, a handsome face, and wears an orange bodysuit, open down to the navel, trimmed in red and yellow flames. His ace powers include the ability create and control fire. He can fire bolts of flame, create a flaming rope (that will not burn), fly, and extinguish fires. At times, he's been known to create and play flaming guitars. Campaign Use and Designer’s Notes: Jumping Jack Flash should be able to be dropped into any setting with ease. He’s strong, fast, flamboyant, fun, and best of all, one of the good guys. Just round out his skills, and you’re all set. Standing 5'7", and weighing 120 lbs, she is graceful, with a well-muscled form and long black hair. She wears a skintight black costume, complete with gloves and boots. On her chest is black and white yin-yang symbol. A similarly patterned half-mask covers her face. A master martial artist, Moonchild is stronger than a normal human and much faster. She is also able to make the dark her home, and can become invisible, as well as teleport amid the shadows. Campaign Use and Designer’s Notes: Tired of bland martial artists who just punch and kick? Use Moonchild (I think I called her Moonshadow in my game.) Her powers are interesting, logical, and have great special effects. Her Code Versus Killing can bring her into conflict with the PCs (if they are more casual about such things), although she has no problem trouncing machines, constructs, and mindless alien beings. He has a solid, square jaw, green eyes, and wavy, yellow-blond hair. His costume consists of a yellow bodystocking with an orange sunburst on the chest, green trunks, gloves, and folded over boots. His powers are the manipulation of light itself, allowing him to generate bolts of pure light energy, create a protective field, exist in space, and transform himself into a beam of light. He is very arrogant and opinionated and will quite gladly lecture Everyone on the evils of Everything. Campaign Use and Designer’s Notes: At 497 Starshine’s pretty powerful, but I still think he could use more DEX (23-26) and more CON (25-28). You many also want to add more Skills and alter his Teleport so he can make a combat Teleport out to 1 km (after which he’d use his Megascaled Teleport). This might push him up near 600 points, but then, he is supposed to be that powerful. Spidey88
Re: Wild Card's Hero Personally, I'd be inclined to bump Starshine's STR a bit - I seem to recall him being described as quite powerful, even for an ace. That's based on my own vague memory, though - not on any hard facts - so take it with a grain of salt!
