Executioner

A vicious super-criminal the character has heard of, but never fought, has been captured in another country, found guilty of a horrible crime, and sentenced to death. There's no doubt as to the guilt of the criminal and the punishment does fit the crime. Their only legal method of execution in that country is lethal injection but the villain's skin is too tough for the needle and he has an unusual biochemistry which makes the legal drug cocktail ineffective. If the execution cannot be performed soon and in a humane manner, the law would void the execution and put the criminal in prison where he would quickly escape and murder more people.

However there is a caveat. Tradition allows for "nobility may execute nobility" method of capital punishment which has been applied to paranormals. They rented three energy focusing machines that can channel a paranormal's energy blast into a single, instant-killing, blow. Three paranormals will channel their energy into the machine and a random one will fire, executing the criminal. They will not know who fired the killing blow. There's only a limited number of paranormals which are compatible with the machines and you are one of them.

Do you accept the role of executioner with the 2 in 3 chance they will not be one who has killed?

I (the player) would indeed accept the role of executioner, as I'm pro- death penalty (and prepared to run the risk of being wrongfully condemned *myself* by the justice system).

Wildfire, my first Champions PC, was a former Asst. US Attorney "murdered" by the Medellin Cartel (it didn't take). She would also be a YES.

Hidden Dragon was a 21st Century member of the SFPD who became a "timelost" member of the Legion of Super-Heroes in the 31st Century. This game featured a war-torn United Planets, and the Legion Code Against Killing was no longer in effect. Hidden Dragon would be a YES.

Gamma Girl played "Robin" to an NPC's "Batman" (Lady Gray) back in the early 1980s. She ended up in the classic Legion of Super-Heroes in the 30th Century, when the Legion Code Against Killing was alive and well. Gamma Girl would be a NO.

Shanghalla Lass is an alien who grew up on a funeral asteroid, believing herself to be both A) the guardian of the graveyard, and B) dead herself. She believes in the sanctity of life. Shanghalla Lass would be a NO.

Re: Executioner

Don't see why it would go to NGD.

And probably no. Uncle Slam is too much of an American Icon to participate in another country's executions, and he has a code against killing. Anthem doesn't believe in the death penalty, and has a code against killing.

Re: Executioner

Badger: Kind of an eye for an eye type. In fact his motivation for being a hero (more of an anti-hero, actually) is revenge against a certain villain. Pro-Death penalty for sure. Has no problem with it, even if he knew his power would be the actual killing blow.

Frosty Bob: His power is guns and invincibility. Not really a factor in this. But, would not have a problem either. "They" say he is an agent of Death, anyway. :sneaky:

Psiren- (New character) Half-human, half-fey(banshee) Probably not, right now she wants to be more of a stay in the background type (Hunted, DEMON:eek:). She really is more of a healer than a fighter. (and is in fact afraid to use her more "fight-worthy" powers)

Most of my characters have been either ex-cops or ex-soldiers (and one reformed villian). None of them would have any problem being one of the three.

Siberian Tiger would tell the state not to bother with the other two, he is perfectly willing to do the job himself. Oh, and they can forgo the fancy machinery too...:eg:

Re: Executioner

As Pyrie is still a minor, she would be ineligible to serve in such a capacity regardless of her willingness to do so. Also, she's still bothered by the deaths she caused when she first discovered her powers (though everyone who died had been part of the organization which had kidnapped her), so she'd be very hesitant to be in a situation where she's got to make the decision to kill another person, no matter what crimes said person has committed.

Re: Executioner

Are you kidding? All my characters would "pull the trigger", although Volt would take a while to work himself up to it.

Olorin would say "About time you did this. Putting them in Stronghold is just waiting for escape or being let out. Too dangerous to let live for a lot of them. By the way, just let me do it. None of this 'you might not be the one' business. If a villain goes after me, let 'em. My killing you would then be self-sefense."

Black Tiger would actually smile. "*%^# yes!"

Futurian "Why not?"
