German for Fearless?

Ok I'm looking for a name for a German Heroine who lacks or at the very least denies fear like nobody's business.

So German phrases or words for:

Fearless, Brave, Courage etc... I used a translator program for the term 'Miss Fearless' and it said there was no such thing. So I thought I'd ask my friends

Re: German for Fearless?

Fearless= furchtlos

Daring= kühn (also bold, audacious)

Woman = Frau or Dame, young woman = Fraulein

Fraulein Furchtlos has a wonderful alliteration to it. Modern Germans are unusually multilingual, so you could use French, Italian or English terms, too.

Arise!

Hey Legatus (or anyone else), some German questions for you?

My villain was called Baron Terror, however someone mentioned Shrek (spelling is atrocious) Would you suggest something along those lines? The guy is a cult leader who dresses like a corporate dressed grim reaper, suit, skull motif, cloak, scythe.

And out of curiosity how does one pronounce Todesmut? I'm leaning towards Fräulein Furchtlos but I could be swayed :)

also, Baron Terror has a few underlings I want to name too.

  • One's a horrifying strongman - Horror, Monster, Hideous are good approximations
  • another is an insect/arachnid/crawly thing themed martial artist, and I'm not sure which freaky bug things yet...so not too worried
  • desolid/smoke weilder I may just call the Fog

How about "Die Schrecke"? It's short (but scientifically not quite correct) for "Die Heuschrecke" which means "the locust".

In addition it contains the German word "Schreck" = shock, terror, alarm.

Regarding "Fräulein Furchtlos" you should probably know that the word "Fräulein" (formal address for unmarried women) is hardly being used since the 70s.

Re: German for Fearless?

I asked a Thesaurus for those and hope they help:

About Courage (Mut):

Bravour · Bravur · Courage (the French; means the same as in english) · Edelmut (heroic courage) · Kühnheit (willing to take risks) · Mannhaftigkeit · Mumm · Mut · Standhaftigkeit (being steadfast) · Tapferkeit · Traute (never heard of it)

Beherztheit · Eifer · Feuer ("having fire") · Mut · Wagemut (willing to take risks)

Kühnheit · Mut · Schneid · Verwegenheit (also includes using his intelligence/cunning)

About Monster:

Bestie · Monster (ugs.) · Scheusal · Unmensch

Biest (may also mean an "evil" women) · Monster · Monstrum* · Scheusal · Chimäre/Schimäre · Ungeheuer · Ungetüm* · Untier

*may also mean an Item that's extremely big/excessive compared to normal items of it's type. Like a Monster Truck or Hummer compared to normal cars.

For the Bug thing:

Käfer (Bug);

however the word is more common to describe the "VW 1303 Käfer" (Volkswagen Beetle) and Herbie (an intelligent "VW 1303 Käfer" and Star of some Dysney Movies) with his Number 53.

Schabe (short for "Küchenschabe" - Cockroach)

About Terror (I've go a lot a different way to say despot/despotic government):

Absolutismus · Despotie · Despotismus · Diktatur · Gewaltherrschaft · Schreckensherrschaft · Terror · Tyrannei · Tyrannis · Willkürherrschaft · Zwangsherrschaft

About Nebel (Fog):

Brühe* · Dampf · Dunst · Nebel · Nebelschleier · Schleier · Smog · Suppe* · Trübung · Vernebelung

*these mean a fog "as thick/visually impenetrable as a soup".

If you need a named based on the Death motif here are a few old German names for its personification:

Gevatter Tod (Godfather Death)

Der Sensenmann (lit. "scythe man")

Der Schnitter (mower, reaper)
