Where's the L.A. superteam?

Champions Universe (and update) provides a wonderful resource for a GM. But, I'm from Southern California, and have to wonder: where's the L.A. superteam? New York has 3 teams (at least), Chicago one, San Fransico 2.5, Boston 2, Detroit/Millinium City 3... but the nation's 2nd (or third) largest city has only "The California Patrol" which is actually not from L.A. So why no love for L.A.? Hollywierd alone should attract wannabe supers by the truckload. None of them formed a team?

(in my version of the CU, there is a team in L.A.: The Dragons. Based off my Teen Champions campaign in the early/mid 80's, I just took the characters and aged them.)

(For the record, San Fransisco isn't California's second largest city. San Diego is. San Fransisco and Oakland combined is smaller than San Diego. San Diego is the state's 2nd largest city, with San Jose 3rd and San Fransisco 4th.)

Re: Where's the L.A. superteam?

I think the most likely answer to the question can be found in the nature of the average Californian. Granted, I've never been there so I could be wrong, but it seems to me that Californians are a rather fracticious and individualistic lot. So what would tend to happen is that you would have a lot of individual superheros who may on occasion work together, rather than a dedicated and unified team.

or you can do what the avengers did once start up a west coast branchof your campaigns super-team

example a couple ofsuper-team membes are transferred to L.A. by their day job employerwho doesn't know they hire super-heroes instead of handing in their team resignations they request permission to form a west coast branch of the team or a spin off group

As another Californian, I totally agree with you regarding the lack of Golden State superteams. At a minimum, I think you'd need a couple in LA, one in San Diego, a couple in the S.F. Bay Area region (really San Jose is a San Francisco suburb... as is Concord, Oakland, Berkeley, etc.), and one in the Central Valley (basing one out of Sacramento seems most logical, it's the state capital).

38 million people (give or take a million or so), in about 164k square miles (much of it concentrated into LA, San Diego, and the SF Bay regions though), and 13% of the U.S. GDP (almost $2 trillion annually). That's hard for most folks outside the state to really wrap their head around, but would seem to call for some serious super-powered protection.
