Host of the Swarm

Mind control was one thing that Professor Hyde was concerned about. What if the drugs gave one of his subjects mental abilities ? Or worse activated them in some one ?

He was right to be concerned for one of his test subjects did develop mind control although not at first over people rather they were able to control insects. John Reynolds was one of the disposable addicts who was given a faulty batch of Hyde's formula by mistake It had a rather peculiar effect on him. It improved his condition and allowed him to recover. Hyde was at first annoyed, the drug cocktail was supposed to kill not cure especially as it was a dud batch. But now it had effected a cure he could possibly use it  on others if he could just duplicate the process.

John meanwhile discovered something else. Not only was he better but insects seemed to look to him. By experiment he found that they would obey simple commands. Then he found he could control people by using the insects to attack them. And that is how John escaped being locked up. by using the insects to infect the guard.

Professor Hyde had a real surprise when he walked into his lab to find John waiting for him with a whole battalion of insects at his command. John works for the Professor for small amounts of the drug and he uses his insects as spies and infecting agents for his mind control power. He prefers to do this slowly with a large build up to allow his power to overwhelm a target. John prefers to keep things simple getting eyes on a target and watching from range. He also stays well out of harms way. He does not know what a large amount of the drug would do but is unwilling to find out at present.

I'd hate it even more when it's abbreviated.  Irritable Bowel Syndrome is a thing.

Somehow that didn't occur to me. I could change it...but nahhh. 😀

Maybe that refers to a mission where she was accidentally swallowed by someone and her subsequent exit was unpleasant for both parties.

There's a defunct youtube channel - Society of Virtue, IIRC - that has a superhero whose whole schtick is pretty much that, beating bad guys by punching their GI tract from within over the course of days or weeks.  Think he was called the Tapeworm or somesuch.

Blind Mouse

One of three triplets who were all born blind, he like his brothers has a radar sense and training in swordplay. He is rather brave,, probably helped by the fact that he can't see details.

He enjoys stealing valuables and preforming swatch buckling.

Mary Quite Contrary

Sometimes bullying goes too far and is too elaborate. Mary Abbot was a science nerd whose primary focus was botany. As such she was working on a new way of revitalising the ground There was a lot of pressure on her from the teachers who had no faith in the project and they gave her a deadline for the school science fair to get it right. This also attracted the attention of the school's pranksters who decided to make a real meal out of it. Not only did they arrange for a renowned authority to be present but also the local TV station fronted by noxious local TV personality Jane Phelps. They then set the stage by sabotaging the speaker system and arranging the fair so that instead of a set of small terrariums for the plants, there was a giant pond full of plants. Blindsided by the expert who criticised her for the scale of the pond and hectored by one of the teachers for the needless extravagance of the work, Mary was trying to hold it together when Ms Phelps brought up awful details of her personal life and the couplet she dreaded most, Mary, Mary, Quite Contrary, How Does Your Garden Grow ?

It was then that the 'escaped gorilla' came rampaging through the fair and knocked her into the pond while still clutching her experimental formula. It was plain bad luck that caused an electrical light to short out and fall into the pond. Mary spent a month in hospital in a coma. Other people had minor bruises or injuries which were easily treated. All Mary needed was a fire axe. She recovered suddenly and the plants were responding to her. She went after the teacher who gave her the most grief and killed him with the fire axe. After that she vanished only to reappear dressed as Mary 1st, Queen of England who believed she had been reborn and now she would be restored with the flora kingdom at her command. Since her reappearance she has killed one of the pranksters and tried to kill the expert and Ms Phelps. She has evaded the police with the aid of the plant kingdom.

The police use caution when confronting her. They know she is insane and somehow has control over plant life. But her royal delusion can be used against her. She lets one of the others run things as 'the petty details' are beneath her concern.

Georgie Porgie

This criminal is known to raid anywhere that sells food and to try and stuff himself. He is a particular nuisance at bakeries, supermarkets and fast food outlets. He can take a bit of a beating due to his physical size as he is plump but not quite obese. He also has an odd power. He can incapacitate women by 'kissing' them. Doing so makes them either cry or physically sick so that they cannot take any action against him. He has been mentally conditioned not to go after Jill and especially not Mary. Georgie does not like being hit at the best of times but Mary's fondness for the fire axe really worries him.

This takes us to the minimum so if someone has another idea do so now.

Thunder Thighs

Babette LaFleur was participating in a lumberjack competition in Montreal when she was caught under a falling tree and had her legs crushed. The superhero Mighty Mountie was making an appearance at the event and had attempted to save her, but was too late. While she was recovering she was approached by the Mighty Mountie's nemesis Doctor Sigmund Fiend. He twisted her mind into believing Mountie was to blame for her injuries. He promised her the chance for revenge and she took him up on his offer.

Fiend replaced her legs with powerful cybernetics and she gained the ability to perform strong kicks, earth shaking stomps and to leap high in the air for a devastating dive bomb attack.

After tangling with the Mountie unsuccessfully on many occasions she decided on a change of scenery and relocated to the United States. She worked solo for a short time before being recruited by Phantom Limb as one of the Legs for his team.

Arm-Ament

Eddie Briggs was a five-time loser, having spent most of his life in prison. That's where he was when Mechanon decided that he needed the new technology hidden in the secret bunker under the prison.

Prisons are designed to stop unarmed prisoners getting out, not genocidal super-robots with hordes of combat drones getting in. The secret bunkers' guard force were better but all that did was kill most of the prisoners in the crossfire. (A few heads were going to roll in the DoD over that one.) One of the defenders got lucky, and blew off one of Mechanon's arms before he was obliterated.

Eddie was messily and noisily dying nearby, his right arm ripped out at the shoulder. The mechanical arm landed up next to him.

Eddie had no idea what to do, but fortunately(?) for him, the arm did. It linked up with Eddie's shoulder, repaired (and improved...) the wrecked socket, and thus gave itself a mobile body. Saving Eddie's life was an unfortunate side effect as far as it was concerned.

The arm took a while to do this, and by the time it was done, Mechanon had retrieved his target tech and left. Uncertain what to do next, the arm let Eddie decide to escape.

Eddie would have been happy to go back to petty crime and scams, but the arm was in charge. Whenever it decided to do something, it mentally ordered Eddie to do it. And if Eddie demurred, the arm just turned on all of his pain receptors. It decided to join up with Phantom Limb, for reasons of it's own.

The arm has a powerful energy beam, a force field and various sensors, which it generally declines to allow Eddie to access. Arm-Ament is limited by the fact that moving around and tactical decisions are taken by Eddie, who is basically a pretty dumb guy, but offensively it's pretty powerful.

Armless

Harry Kiri (yes that is his name, his parents have a lot to answer for) has an odd power. He can project an arm hat can hit people at range or can do certain tasks like open doors or open windows or open a safe. When he is doing this he cannot do anything else. He likes pushing people. Like through open windows, off bridges or off a roof. Phantom Limb makes him do more subtle things such as moving a single object slightly to the left or right of where it was previously in order to drive someone mad. He does what he is told as he is safer with the others and is making more money.

The Golden Snake

He is one of the premier martial artists of his generation. He is a master of Kung Fu, his principal style being snake but he knows how to counteract the other four styles of the archetypal Five Animals of Chinese martial arts which are Crane, Dragon, Leopard and Tiger. He is also versed in Praying Mantis style. His uniform has a single snake running the length of each arms and leg on the seam. Each garment has a snake badge over the heart. He wears no mask except to evade gas or sensory deprivation attacks.

He responds only to the name The Golden Snake and telepathy and mind control will not reveal his original name. It is said that he was one of the enforcers for a Yakuza gang or one of the Chinese Triads but that someone or something attacked them and he was one of the only survivors. He then forged the other survivors into his own personal army. He also recruited other people who had superpowers and turned them into a formidable force.

The fly in the ointment was the hero who thwarted one endeavour after another. But the hero was not able to go after the whole enterprise. Either they did not think clearly about the job or the activities of other criminals prevented him from doing so. However the sheer number of other adversaries eventually led to them joining forces and taking on the hero.

Now they work together. How does The Golden Snake view this ? In his usual inscrutable way.....

Bee Czar

Graham Hawthorne III was born into wealth, largely due to the variety of products produced by the Hawthorne Honey brand his family created. However tragedy struck when a tainted line of product led to damaging lawsuits and a worse reputation to the public. Hawthorne was devastated by this both financially and mentally. He had paranoid delusions that competitors had sabotaged the company and began a twisted series of revenge attacks that were honey and bee based. Soon he would make his new villainous identity known to the world.

He had some success building a small empire and acquired his girl friday in the form of Honey. However he would find defeat at the hands of his heroic rival over and over. Joining forces with his fellow villains seemed like the solution and he believes it was his master plan all along, despite the lack of facts to back that up.

He is looked down upon by most of the Eight as a bit of a fool, but he has proven effective with his various honey traps and swarm of killer bee drones. Honey is actually believed to be the more dangerous and cunning of the pair, and is watched more closely by the rest of the team for the possibility of a takeover attempt.

Oskolok

When a meteor landed in the Ural Mountains a group of scientists were dispatched with a military escort to investigate. Amongst the soldiers was Corporal Marat Tsurov. The group discovered the meteor was a sphere of metal. As the scientists began to study it, the sphere suddenly began to shift and change shape before sending out metal shards that killed everyone except for Tsurov. He barely survived and after he was evacuated to a hospital a splinter of the metal was found to be lodged in his brain. As the medical staff attempted surgery to remove it, the metal expanded from the wound and formed protective armor around Tsurov and he quickly dispatched all those around him.

The days that followed saw Tsurov clash with the military and Russian super team the Protectorate. He managed to hold his own with his nearly indestructible armor and ability to shape and control it into weapons.

He would later begin terrorizing Eastern Europe under his new name Oskolok. His consciousness appears to have merged with the alien substance and is no longer fully human. He seeks to conquer those around him and recover the metal object that part of him emerged from. During his exploits he clashed with other members of the Eight in their activities and was bested by the hero several times. He reluctantly allied with the others and sees them more as pawns and means to an end than true allies.

Quwwa

From the heart of Arabia comes the strong man known as Quwwa. He can lift trucks on his own and juggle cars, that's how strong he is. The name comes from the Islamic word for power and strength. It is said that he came from The Lost City of Irem but it is known that telepaths who probe too deeply into his mind start screaming about impossible vistas and sights. He can take a monstrous amount of punishment but he also dishes it out. Mind control and mental illusions can fall straight off him but mental damage tends to get through and can incapacitate him.

The hero often caught him out with traps and concealed deep pits. He teamed up with the others to remove the hero and believes his prejudices contributed to him not joining up with them earlier to stop the menace. As it is, he does not like Oskolok at all and is wary of The Golden Snake. He keeps Honey at arms length not because of any Islamic or Arab prejudice against women but because he would not undermine the Bee Czar in such an obvious and crass fashion. He does not like Life is But an Illusion ! as they might use their power to catch him out. But The Master of the Orbs is a real chess player thinking out moves way in advance and so seems very deadly. If Oskolok does not try to get them then it will be The Master of the Orbs. Perhaps if he could get one to go after the other ? The Cat of Fine Lives should be an open and closed book but her variety of forms conceals a cunning mind and she could manipulate all of the group. [EDIT: Death Tribble note, I will add details on what he thinks of the others when they are posted]

Quwwa is Arabic and when in combat is stripped to the waist.
