Shadowsoul
How would you build the word Ni! as a power/weapon? Some sort of Ego Attack that does Body Damage? Except that people who are not killed outright recover from it quite quickly. Perhaps a Drain Body and Stun?
Zen Archer
Re: Power Word Ni! I'd be tempted to leave Body out of it entirely, since we don't really see it kill anyone. Maybe a slight drain of Presence and Stun. Or Ego and Stun.
Ninja-Bear
Re: Power Word Ni! Well if there is no harm, have you considered an entangle that does no body and is susceptible to to an ego roll?
Killer Shrike
Re: Power Word Ni! Its just a presence attack. Something like +30 PRE; Offensive Use Only (-1); Incantations ("Ni!", -1/4); Extra Time: Full Phase (-1/2) There's a variation of Incantations that requires people to hear the incantations for the effect to work, but I can't seem to recall where that is described. EDIT: It was in Fantasy HERO 5th Edition and is called Voice Range. I didn't find it in Fantasy HERO 6th Edition on a quick flip thru. VOICE RANGE This option is in effect in my campaigns On page 133 of Fantasy HERO for Hero System 5th Edition an option for Incantations is presented called Voice Range. Normally Incantations have to be obvious "words of power" or similar, but this type of Incantations can be disguised as normal speaking, singing, etc. However, the target(s) must be able to hear the Incantations, and must be within about 20" of the Magic User if no other strong noise is present. If they can't hear it, whether because there is too much background noise, they are too far, they have been deafened, they block their ears, or otherwise, then they are not affected by the Spell. Shadowsoul
Re: Power Word Ni! Voice range idea is useful, cheers. It's interesting that you all think of Ni! as non-fatal. Arthur states that those who hear it seldom live to tell the tale and the Knights themselves claim to be able to kill Arthur, although they appear unarmed. Repeated uses of the word do seem to cause physical pain in those who hear it, which suggests that it does do Stun damage at least. Repeated uses of Ni! cause increasing effects, (people scream in pain and curl up into themselves or fall to the ground). This isn't quite how Presence Attacks work. Perhaps a Drain Presence and Ego? Then you could weaken the target until they die of fright? Of course, applying logic to Monty Python is a pointless exercise. All of these power builds should create a dramatic effect and that is all that is required. I expect most players will enjoy using the power, regardless of its precise effects. Thanks for your input guys. Consider yourselves the recipients of virtual shrubberies.

"Few who see the dreaded creature in the cavern live to tell about it" generally doesn't mean seeing the creature actually causes death, just that if you see it it will almost certainly kill you. Narf the Mouse
Re: Power Word Ni! Why not Presence Attack: Does BODY? Edit: Power Word: Ni!: Does BODY (+1) for up to 15 Active Points of Presence Attacks, Reduced Endurance (0 END; +1/2), Voice Range (+1/2) (30 Active Points); Incantations (Ni!; -1/4), 24 Real Points Of course, to really replicate it, it should probably be on Autofire... Narf the Mouse
Re: Power Word Ni! I would say it's a Psychological Complication of the knights and not an attack others would have. The power word clearly works on everybody; King Arthur states that "Those who hear them seldom live to tell the tale." And there was no mention of the word working just because it was used on knights, or any particular knights.

Zen Archer
Re: Power Word Ni! not to nit pick but I believe that the person is refered to as a shrubber. (virtual or otherwise) This pretty much defines nitpicking, but you are correct. And before anybody else mentions it, the shrubber in MPATHG is named Roger.
