102 VIPER Plot Seeds

(27) SURVIVOR - SUPERHERO!

The FOX network's new SuperHero reality show! 10 superheroes have been choosen at random (uhh, huh...) for a chance to win $10 million for their favorite charity.

Who will survive the contests? Are they really as boy scout-like as they would have you believe? Who will betray who?

VIPER is sponsoring this through it's legitimate business channels. They are gathering a whole bunch of their enemies (i.e. Heroes/Vigilantes with Hunted by VIPER of 11< or higher) on a remote island to deal with once and for all (depending on the nature of the character's Hunted of course).

The island itself should be geared towards the heroes themselves. It could be a true island if the characters are more street-level heroes. Or could even be another dimension. Whatever keeps the characters there for a while.

The show itself is all computer animation. The interaction between the Heroes is engineered so as to cause the most possible damage to all the heroes' reputations. (Honorable-types are shown being underhanded, Truthful-types are shown being caught in lies, etc.)

VIPER probably wants to contain the heroes or worse (again depends on the nature of the hero's Hunted). However, since they will escape (hopefully), the heroes will have to combat the PR diaster.

Will the public believe their heroes after what they saw on the Ever Factual TV?

OPTIONS:

1) Obviously this doesn't have to be based on the Heroes being Hunted. VIPER may want the heroes for another reason.

2) VIPER only believes they are behind this. In fact, some ultra powerful supervillian has orchestrated the whole thing in order to wipe out a bunch of heroes along with a Nest or three. Mechanon perhaps?

Take care,

Derek

Nice idea - how about another take on the TV reality show ? Anyone read the excellent Wildguard comic from Todd Nauck(?). Basic premise of the series is that a new superteam is being created and there are try-outs to be selected. What if VIPER were hosting their own tryouts for a new superhero team sponsored through one of their business ventures such as Duchess Industries. Such trials would give VIPER a potential new source of power, plenty new lab victims to examine/dissect, could implant mind control or sensor devices so that they could track these new heroes in their interactions with established heroes (ie the PCs). Much, much potential in this idea but I need to go home now so I'll leave it there for now....

(29) HEROnet: VIPER sponsors a website about the Hero team, on a hidden server. It comes wtih unflattering pictures of the heroes in action, and a online forum. The forum is filled with polls about the heroes, rating everything from their costumes, who has the suckiest powers, to which one is "the hottest". Their combat performance on the evening news is also critiqued, in detail, bay "online experts".

(30) Take Me Out To The Ballgame

VIPER agents (trainess, mostly) take over a baseball stadium during a major game (big attendance a must) and hold the fans and both teams hostage for $20 million. To make life miserable for the heroes and PRIMUS/UNTIL, they force numerous fans to put on cloth copies (no Armor) of VIPER uniforms and "stand guard" near the entry ways.

Of course, this is all a diversion as their main forces hit the temporarily understaffed PRIMUS base across town to break captured supervillains free or procure an important device the Feds acquired.

(31) VIPER Youth: The private school where all the VIPER people send their kids is experiencing a funding shortage, due to the efforts of the heroes. What did they think the money from that robbery was going to be used for? VIPER Agent #14 has a kid who needs a new backpack!

Fearing their school may go bankrupt, and they will be forced to go to public school, the kids take all the training equipment (The tank, the tunneling machine, the jet fighter, etc...) and embark upon a crime spree...sending all their profits to the school, so the roof can get fixed.

Unknown to any except the VIPER command, is the school performs a very important purpose. Many of the supervillains VIPER employs have kids that go there, as a method to make sure they don't leave VIPER. By the time the Heroes track down the culprits of the crime wave, some people from VIPER central should show up also.

And what do the heroes do when they find out the villains aren't old enough to shave?

32.) TV naturalist Steve Irwin is missing after going to investigate reports of an unknown species of giant snake in central Africa. As it turns out, the “snakes†were escapees from Dr. Moreau’s labs, and Steve’s stumbled over a VIPER experimental station. The only thing keeping him from a date with the good doctor is that his fearless snake handling has won him something of a following in the VIPER rank and file, and some of the higher ups want to take a shot at recruiting him. To that end, a squad has been sent to grab his wife and daughter, who are visiting relatives in the campaign city…

(Steve's possible stats were discussed here.)

...Must...reach...102...

33) The Good of the Snake: An American President is shot on national television…the Vice President is in control…and the alleged assassin tells you with his dying breath that the Vice President is the Supreme Serpent. Alone, confused, and wanted by the most powerful nation on Earth for knowing too much…will the Heroes bring down the government?

34) VIPERCon: Either as one of his contacts, or while taking a cab, the Hero strikes up a conversation with a cabbie. He tells you about his last fare, and apologizes for them throwing up in the back seat. They were good tippers though, and were on their way to the convention center. Something called VIPERCon…

35) VIPER Day: While watching a televised parade on television, and waiting for the football game to start, the Heroes watch a series of floats go by. Then a Green float goes by, filled with a bunch of guys in green armor waving to the cheering crowds. Alternate1: The heroes are on their own float, behind the IPER float. Alternate2: The heroes are in the crowds watching the parade, in their secret identities.

36) VIPER Spam: VIPER conducts its most insidious plot. Using thousands of cheaply purchased used servers, they set up a clandestine effort to bring down the Internet. Various gambling and Porn sites, are told to pay blackmail…or else. Will the players join forces with the peddlers of sin and corruption? Or will poor Timmy no longer be able to download his homework form school?

37) The Man from VIPER: The team is contacted by a highly placed VIPER operative who wishes to help them disrupt local operations. Claiming to be a deep cover plant placed by the former Soviet Union, can the heroes trust the man who no longer has a country?

38) Thursday is payday.

VIPER agents hit EVERY Bank in the City one afternoon, the sheer number of agents is astounding. Police and even heroes cannot cover every bank in one hour. The methods, violent. The hardware, perplexing. For every VIPER issue weapon and armor arrested (inevitably) there are six or seven armed with over the sports counter hunting rifles and green sweaters with VIPER patches over kevlar.

Is VIPER on a mass recruiting drive? What could possibly be the plot behind this?

The VIPER diet plan, or Day of the Dead Part III

VIPER adventure seed #39

An incredible new weight-loss pill goes on the market. It speeds up the metabolizing of fat and the development of muscle, and is reasonably priced, fast and effective. However, the miracle pill didn't exactly go through FDA channels before hitting the market....

VIPER came up with the metabolic booster for use by their agents, and some unscrupulous nest leader decided to put it on the market and pocket the proceeds. Hey, every villain needs cash! He used VIPER connections and influence to bypass the lengthy approval process for the new drug, and he's now making a fortune.

Unfortunately, one of hormones in the miracle pill is synthesized from human adrenal glands...and nobody asked the "donors." Further, the miracle pill is addictive, and may cause rapid mental degeneration in users...these victims lose all higher mental functions, and aren't aware of anything but their craving for the chemical. Imagine a horde of shambling zombie-like miracle pill users attacking people and ripping out their adrenal glands (the adrenals are caps of tissue on the upper edge of each kidney).

How will the heroes get this poison off the market? Will anyone believe them? And what are they going to do about the kidney-muching "zombies" that are appearing all over the country?

Hope I'm not repeating myself yet...

40) Green Liberation: VIPER supports revolutionaries in a middle eastern nation, causing them to overthrow the government. Now VIPER can make all their favorite nest leaders ambassadors, with diplomatic immunity. They can speak before the UN, and cut UNTIL's funding. Should any nation attempt to invade/destabilize their chosen country, they will blackmail and bribe the media into supporting them. The flag of the nation is...Green. The name of the nation is...Libya. How long has VIPER been controlling it...unknonwn.

41) Recyling Drive: A few months ago, the heroes defeated a plot by VIPER. Now, all the equipment and supplies that were captured from the villainous agents are being taken to an offshore facility, where they will be destroyed. Unfortunately for the heroes, VIPER has decided they want their stuff back. Several of the heroes may be escorting the cargo, along with someone from the press who will be held hostage. Option: Replace offshore facility with "rail line" facility for train mayhem.

42) Green Dawn: VIPER has a new metahuman working for them...a metahuman with such great power, that none can withstand it. His name is Ted Rogers. He is able to change the color of anything he looks at...green. With this awesome power, VIPER has been sending him out to nests around the world. He threatens to turn some warship, monument, or national leader green, unless they pay the local nest a ransom. Last week it was the Eiffel Tower...today it is a target in the campaign city. Can the Heores defeat this menace while retaining their original color scheme?

43) The Interview: The heroes have defeated every nest that has ever appeared in their city. They use VIPER armor in their target range, and tell VIPER jokes during press conferences. They have no fear. Unfortunately, VIPER has decided to make an example of them. A vacancy has opened up on the Council of 30, and VIPER says the agent or nest leader who takes care of the heroes gets it, along with 25 million in cash. Suddenly, VIPER agents are running all over the city...along with nest leaders from around the world. Even a few non-VIPER villains here about it, and decide to try their luck. Will anything survive the mayhem that is unleashed? Option: have this happen to an NPC team, PC's come to help.

44) Snake Charmers: VIPER decides to branch into the occult...the snake way. For the last few months, VIPER nests have been stealing anything occult they can get their hands on. Investigations will reveal that the stuff is not being kept locally, instead it is being shipped through intermediaries to a quiet village in subsaharan Africa. There, living in retirement, is one of the last of the VIPER sorcerors, forced out in a power struggle decades ago. It seems a powerful mystical force is preparing to enter our reality, and only VIPER is prepared and able to stop it. Its a threat VIPER has stopped before. Will the heroes team up with the snakes to save the world?

Re: 102 VIPER Plot Seeds

This thread has been comatose long enough. We at least need to get it to 51 so we're halfway there.

(45) Your Grandpa's VIPER: Squads of VIPER agents are attacking homes of retired Golden Age superheroes and costumed crimefighters, either breaking in and ransacking the places, or kidnapping family members. It seems the local Nest Leader learned the retired heroes (all part of the same team, or solo heroes working together on a case) stole a massively powerful weapon or magical device decades ago, but nobody admits knowing what happened to the weapon since. Who has it, and how do the heroes keep it out of VIPER's clutches?

[Option] Have a past Nest Leader and a bunch of soon-to-be-retired, highly experienced VIPER agents running the whole operation as a way of going out with a bang.

(46) Not Just Crocodiles in the Sewers: VIPER has begun using the city's sewer lines for quick getaways from various oddball crimes (stealing a grandfather clock, destroying a statue in a park, etc.). Each time the heroes follow them, the agents make it around a corner in the sewer and just disappear! How are they doing it? And what is the pattern to the crimes?

(47) Abusement Park: VIPER agents take over a nearby amusement park, setting traps on various rides to keep the heroes and PRIMUS/UNTIL busy while they pull a more covert operation nearby. (The heroes might note that all of the agents at the park are obvious rookies, some even have trouble changing clips in the blaster rifles.)

(48) VIPER 911: VIPER takes over the local 911 call center, and begins sending police and firemen (and heroes, if they are sanctioned) all over the city EXCEPT for a five-block radius around a rival company's office building. Meanwhile, they plant explosives to demolish the building after eventually luring the heroes inside.

(49) Framed: VIPER frames a successful police officer, who happens to have helped the heroes on occasion, making it look like he's been on their payroll for over a year. They then slowly, carefully leak clues to the heroes and a local reporter to the cop's "duplicity."

(50) What's Love Got To Do With It?: A VIPER agent falls for one of the heroes, big time, and claims to want to go straight. She or he will turn over the local Nest's current big plan in exchange for an amorous encounter with the hero(ine). Is this a trap? A plan to get a sample of the hero's DNA? Or just a love-sick loony?

(51) Call of the Wild: Using carefully analyzed and enhanced recordings of Caterwaul's howls (see DH #24), VIPER begins driving every animal in the city into fits of berserker rage. Obviously this is cover for some other plot, but what?

Re: 102 VIPER Plot Seeds

one I've been pondering that might work well or VIPER

52 The magic sponge

The English world cup football team is in dire straits with several of the best players injured but rumour has it a certain Harley Street doctor can miraculously cure sports injuries.

Of course the doctors office is a cover for a london VIPER nest and whilst the advanced medical technology will fix up the players (at least for a while.)

when they are unconscious a subliminal mind control system is used to set up the players to throw key matches and make VIPER a fortune from sports betting. (of course any sport you can get odds on would do)

Re: 102 VIPER Plot Seeds

(53) Preemptive Strike: The Heroes have become so effective that VIPER feels threatened and decides to launch a Preemptive Strike, but this Nest Leader is no fool. He know that intelligent analysis of their Powers and Tactics is the key to victory.

Stage 1:

VIPER arranges for the Heroes to learn the location and operations of a IHA Project Genocide base. The Heroes walk into an ambush and narrowly snatch Victory from the jaws of defeat. VIPER records it all.

Stage 2:

VIPER hires the Heroes Nemesis'es(?) for information on the Heroes and organizes a staged incident to draw the Heroes into an Super Battle. VIPER ensures that the odds are initiatally even at the start. VIPER records it all.

Stage 3:

VIPER Superpowered Agents attack the Heroes and VIPER records it all.

Stage 4:

Using the knowledge they have gained the VIPER Nest Leader draws the Heroes into battle. Agents are equipped with Special Weapons and Tactics to bring the Heroes down in a very public place and humiliate them infront of the media. demonstrating to the world VIPER's power.

Cheers

Re: 102 VIPER Plot Seeds

(54) Tons for Tots: The local nest, with ample funding from the organization at large, creates a fictitious charity. Every superteam and all solo heros who could conceivably participate, as well as the Mayor and various other bigwigs are invited to observe. The charity offers $100 to orphans (or something equaly cheesy) for every ton that the invited superhumans can lift, be it via straight super strengh, telekinesis, what have you. The contest will be held on a floating platform in the bay, supposedly to insure public safety and allow the final challenge (a 100 ton barge) to be accessed easily. The platform is, of course, simply a cover for a submerged VIPER base. As the barge is hefted into the air, the neural interference bomb planted in it's hold will explode, knocking out every super and normal in attendence. Then, the platform will submerge, taking it's precious cargo to an unknown location...

Re: 102 VIPER Plot Seeds

(54) Tons for Tots:

Ooo... I like this one. I may have to inflict this on my players.

(55) Bad Boys, Bad Boys, What Ya Gonna Do? The local VIPER nest blatantly steals a bunch of police uniforms just before a major event (foreign dignitary coming to visit the campaign city, etc.) where there are bound to be lots of police officers. Knowing the heroes are going to suspect fake officers, however, the actual VIPER team shows up as wait staff, so they can pull off the plot (kidnapping the dignitary, for instance) while the heroes are busy trying to find fake cops.

(56) Sorry, Wrong Number: A teen mentalist, who only just discovered his powers, accidentally "eavesdrops" on some VIPER agents planning a big museum theft. Not wanting to get directly involved but not wanting the bad guys to succeed, the teen begins dropping mental hints for the heroes to lead them to the staging area for the theft. However, VIPER became aware of the intrusion (through whatever means) and is tracking down the teen.

Re: 102 VIPER Plot Seeds

(57) The Rabit Patch: While working on an uplift technique aimed at small creatures, Dr Moreau accidentally creates a formula that causes accelerated and uncontrollable growth in plants. Unfortunately, not only is the growth so rapid that the plants often "explode", but the mixture turned out to have been made using contaminated ingredients, and the contaminants were apparently the key. While he cannot yet replicate the formula, a local nest leader has aquired a batch to cause meyhem and chaos on the streets of the campaign city, while his Viper agents, equipped with special defoliating blasters, rob every jewelry store in town. The PCs not only have to try and stop these agents, but must also deal with sunflowers that once they reach their full height of 20ft, fire all their seeds like a claymore, 50ft exploding watermellon, banana battering rams and other such madness.
