aylwin13
Originally posted by Enforcer84 never fear, Hermit, it was a good review. I have to agree with E84, the review was very well done. And as far as not having played it, in this case it isn't really relevent. If you had been reviewing a new game system then, yes, you should play it first. You need to see if the rules actually work. With an adventure supplement this isn't the case. Anyone who's ever GMed for a group knows that no matter how you plan the scenario, things will be changed and affected by the players. You covered that when you commented on Allen's inclusion of different options for the different parts of the adventure. You can usually tell when reading the supplement whether it will "flow" properly or not. As far as SoB is concerned, it is an excellent piece of work. The writing, art and maps are all superbly done. I've read it through completely twice (once in playtesting and once since I've purchased it). I can't wait to get the chance to run it. The only problem that I saw was the accidental? omission of the museum map from the PDF. Otherwise a great job by all concerned.
Bartman
Well I just went and downloaded it as well. Of course I can't comment on the accuracy of your review. My character is hunted by Black Paladan. And I know my GM has picked up SoB as well. So if I were to read it I think my GM would hurt me badly. Hermit
Lemming: Working on it, my psychological limitations alone will be a great start. Enforcer and Aylwin: Thanks. That flow you spoke of, Aylwyn, is one of the things that impressed me about the product. Bartman: Yes, especially if he reads these boards
Peregrine
Of all the great things that can be (and have been) said about SoB, one that impressed me is this: the whole thing comes from one the 'Plot Seeds' section of Black Paladin's CKC writeup. Among its other achievements, SoB is a textbook example of how to take those Plot Seeds and expand them into a full adventure. Kudos! Rechan
Is the story usable without say, Black Paladin and Talisman? Could you morph it to fit other badguys?

Could you morph it to fit other badguys? Whew.. well, I don't want to spoil things for anyone, but it wouldn't be easy. You'd have to have a villain with a similar origin story to BP and it's definitely a mystical thing. That's not to say it couldn't be done period... but I really think you'd risk losing some of the oomph. This adventure is big on characterization for our villains. Steve Long
I think Hermit's pretty accurate on that point, but I will say that there are parts of the adventure you could easily 'port into another adventure. For example, the creepy haunted mansion would work well in many settings and scenarios, Black Paladin or no.
Shikarr
I would have to agree also. I have been threading it into my game for the past 4 game sessions and it is wonderful on adding tremendous characterization to Black Palladin. Everyone has enjoyed it so far of course they haven't gotten into the fun heavy combat parts yet. Heh heh. That might change their minds. But personally I think the adventure was very well written and thought out. While no one can predict everything I must admit that the adventure has pretty well pegged my group very well so far. It is a tremendous adventure. The maps within the adventure are wonderfull also. They would be even better if I could figure a way to print them to scale. I am probably missing something easy there. But a hearty thank you and great job from me for this one and I greatly anticipate the next adventure.

Thanks, Shikarr I bent over backwards making sure everything in the maps remained in vector format (no patterns or transparencies, for example). They should be printable at whatever size you want. I wish I knew more about PCs or at least had one to experiment with the printing so I could give some helpful advice. I'll look into it as soon as I finish doing maps for "Sharper than a Serpent's Tooth", another excellent adventure by Mr. Thomas.
