What would your character do? #18

Wormhole

Recommended Posts

First some background:

Toymaker is a gadgeteer and a major outfitter for both heroes and villians in the campaign city. Other than the fact that he won't sell anything significantly lethal to someone who is obviously psycho, he plays no favorites and will not leak anyone's secret identity (he doesn't even ask, it's bad for business).

The senerio:

Toymaker has approached you and several other supers in the area for help. He explains that a plucky young woman with a large sum of cash and aspirations to be a superheroine hired him to build her a suit of powered armor. He built the suit and had her trying it on as he was making some important adjustments to the neural interface system when she became impatient and ran out of his workshop before he could finish.

He goes on to explain that if he doesn't find the girl, who is now calling herself Artemis, and complete the aforementioned adjustments properly, she will start suffering a form of psychosis that will make her a danger to herself and others. He has asked you and the others to help him track her down. What do you do?

Uncle Slam: He would ask relevant questions about the armor's power source and enlist the toymaker in creating a device to track said power source or unique energy signatures created by the suit (even going so far as to pay him if necessary). The rest is old fashioned hero subdual hero work.

Anthem: She would ask for information about the woman and when he refuses to give the information she would go back to basics. If she intends to be a hero then anthem would likely look for a crime in progress that the young woman might try to foil. Once they'd brought down the villains side-by-side perhaps she can convince the woman of the issues with the outfit. If it comes down to it, she'll fight the woman for her own good.

Quasar would have Toymaker atune his Radar to the unique energy signature of Artemis' power armor. Then he would call the other members of his super team to track this unfortunate new heroine down before she became a danger to herself. He would then offer her a trial membership to the hero team.

Mind Maiden would search the city using Mind Scan, then use Telepathy to direct the other heroes as to where to find Artemis. Then, fully annoyed and put out, she would return to her research.

Shadowhunter would grill the Toymaker until he told him all the weaknesses in Artemis' power armor, including any override codes that may remotely power off the armor. He'd then monitor the police and fire radio bands, expecting that once she went over the edge her rampage would eventually get reported.

Quantum - Would assume Toymaker had some way to track the armor and ask for it. He would get info on what type of abilities & weaknesses the armor had. He would then set about tracking her.

Specter - Would refrain from smacking Toymaker for allowing his armor to be stolen. Would grill Toymaker for info on the armor (How do I shut it down, Can you track it?, etc...). We would ask about the girl (Did she say anything about were should plans to patrol, Did she seem ok, any other pertiant questions to try to"profile" her). If the armor cannot be tracked, then Specter would create an "event" to draw the new hero out and then take her down.

Stone - After a long stream of profanity, would get some info on the armor (see above) and the girl. Would tell Toymaker to continue to try and track her and have him call Stone if he is successful. After Toymaker left, he would call PRIMUS (they are trying to recruit Stone) and give them the heads up. He would then leave his partner in charge of the their demolition business and start looking for the would be hero.

when she became impatient and ran out of his workshop before he could finish.

All of these offers of membership (even probationary) need to be tempered by her impatience. Hastiness like that could lead the whole group into serious trouble.

I like the Disad, though. (from a game play point of view)

WonderStuff would implore the Scientist to help with finding her. Once located he would try to reason with her and try to make her take the costume off of her own free will. Once this didn't work he would try to grab her and forceable remove it. With a "neural interface " he would be ery, very hesitant to damage the armor as if might give some sort of dangerous feedback (being connected to her brain, presumably).

Once subdued, the suit fixed, etc, WonderStuff would take her under his wing and see that she learns the value of patience (insert "glasshopper" here) ;)

toymaker

That's a good plot thread..........my character NIGHTWATCH has a "Toymaker" Contact.

Slipping into that reality, "Toymaker" would be his supplier/weaponmaker, so...................I, of course would help, for a price.................

Pursuing and capturing the young lady before she or anyone else gets hurt is very important. But it's worth at least a year's worth of PRO BONO "toymaking".

Of course, my character would do that anyway, but Toymaker doesn't know that, and my Intimidation and Persuasion skills should keep him nervous enough to not notice..........he he he.

Blazing Arrow is a total technophobe, so he'd go along with any team going after her but that'd be the extent of it as far as planning went - aside from consulting the spirits of course.

If he were on his own, he'd use the old-fashioned methods - tracking based on physical evidence, interviews, etc..

Husky would rush out into the streets and roam around looking for the fight until he got bored after he transformed into his alter Ego "Kenneth Clark" he'd use his lab to calculate where to locate this rogue super then he'd take his injection and Husky would rush off to tangle with the superbabe after all chicks in power armor are hot...

The Rook would probably lecture the Toymaker on responsibility and comparative morality, then he would find out any suspected vulnerabilities and susceptibilities as well as the offensive capacity of the suit (two things that he has the ability to inherently sight based detect) and start looking for that "signature" while adjusting his defensive powersuite to make himself as immuse as inhumanly possible. the offensive suite would be set for the things that the person is Vulnerable/Susceptible to.....

When found the armor suited woman would be rationally discussed with to see if she can be convinced to not only use her powers for good but to get the necessary adjustments. Even to the point of lending her some of his own powersuit creations in the meantime.....

failing that, warnings followed by attempts to subdue.
