Darren Watts
Wow, not one comment on Nick's cover for this fab book? You guys really don't know what you're missing over here... dw

You guys really don't know what you're missing over here... dw It's good, no doubt, but I have #$$# for eyesight, and get the feeling I'm missing all sorts of good details. I'll probably apprecate it more when I have the book before me.
BobGreenwade
I was just waiting for someone else to start a thread on it. I looked at it as soon as it was posted. I think it's absolutely fantastic -- it does an excellent job of summarizing the content and atmosphere of the book, with a sense of excitement. Jon Fry
It's a really good cover, but... the tall, narrow font used for the word 'Alien' looked more than a little bit like: http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0090605/ I have no idea if that's intentional, but it could be, considering the content of the book. Sociotard
Wow. Bridge decorum really slips during a battle. One officer stripping down to her undershirt, another hasn't ironed anything in at least a month, and since when does growing a soup strainer become 'captains perogative'? No wonder the xenovore baddies give them so much trouble.
Aroooo
My fav. is how the Captain looks a lot like the Captain from Starblazers; esp. the uniform & its high colar. Aroooo

By then decorum may be more important for Army than Navy, rather than the other way around as it is today (not that the Army necessarily lacks decorum; but you know what I mean). Waffle cones are another story.... Oh yeah, cool cover!!! When's it shipping? thanx heaps, DGv3.
Steve Long
AW shipped yesterday (Monday, December 8). We'll have it at GenCon SoCal, and of course it's on its way to stores. Part of the idea behind the cover illo, as well as some in the book, is not lax discipline, but the sort of "grittiness" you get in sub movies (where there's always the guy in the grimy tee-shirt fixing something... ). There's also the issue of logistical/supply problems that crop up, which you'll read about in the book. It's hard to fight a war over tens of thousands of light-years, and sometimes those cramped starships get a little stuffy.
GreyGuardian
No comments often are a positive thing since people tend to say something to complain rather than to praise. I liked the cover and am looking forward to the book.
Sociotard
I wasn't trying to insult the good and wise people who put a whole keg of effort into this book. I was just trying to make fun, lightheartedly and devoid of malicious intent, of the crew. And Steve is right, it does have a little bit of the submarine atmosphere to it. Rigel
Wallpaper Here is a very simple and very creatively-challenged AW wallpaper for anyone interested. The file is about 3.7 MB in size. This one is in 1280x1024 resolution, but Windows can stretch it to fit other screen sizes. If any resolution would really benefit someone, I can easily resize it and post it again. Enjoy.
